Rae Leigh gets cheeky with her new single ‘Push Em’ Up Jill’. A comedy country song about a nurse from the 70’s that came about from a music festival in Queensland and a common love for country music, nurses and their sense of humor and what women have and how they use it. 

This is Rae’s debut comedy country song showing us the lighter side of her personality that she picked up from her mum who was a midwife for 35 years and age care nurse for 15+ years till present.

“My mum was a nurse growing up and she always had a great sense of humour to help get through the up’s and downs of being a nurse, it’s a hard job and i have a lot of appreciation for men and women who dedicate their life to such an essential job”

Push Em Up Jill

Following up from her success with her number 1 single “Push em Up Jill”; Blue Shoes dives into generational story telling, passing on the gifts of knowledge we have as women, to make us stronger and nurture the girls we are blessed to raise up. 

“A story that has been shared for years and even at my wedding was my mum always wondering why there was lipstick all over her mirror in the bedroom, turns out younger me had been putting make up on the girl in the mirror and couldn’t understand why she kept moving! ” - Rae Leigh

Rae Leigh was inspired for the idea of this song after attending the 2021 Australian Songwriters Conference north of Sydney after sitting down to do a co-write with someone who didn’t show for the session she ended up writing it on her own.

Rae was working as an extra on the “Young Rock” the TV show when they  bumped her to a singing role performing  “Honky Tonk Man” as an 80’s Nashville singer. 

As part of the performance Rae was asked to perform an original song as well. The crew were so impressed with the song they organized the song to be optioned and although it was not included in the final cut, if gave Rae the encouragement she needed to record the song professionally by the amazing team at Kross Kutt Records. You can still hear and see Rae perform on the Young Rock in episode 4 season 2.

This is a song i wrote through some hard times where i heavily relied on my faith and relationship with Jesus as i understood it from me study of the bible.

Somethings in life are just not black and white leaving you to sit in grey.

Sitting in the Grey is written to break down barriers and keeping the subject of infertility, infancy loss, miscarriage and grief taboo. It aims to speak to the hearts of all mothers and fathers in waiting, those who have tried and given up, and those that have suffered gut wrenching loss. Anyone who has endured such a chapter in their story where nothing made sense, and some dreams never come back with also resonate with the chorus. 

The undertones however point the listener to hope and understanding that the hard times remind us to appreciate and look to the beauty in life, especially during grief.

These are songs i have recorded with Jason Millhouse in Brisbane.
Dancing on the Moon was co-writen in Nashvill with Eric Dodd and Les Haug (it's actually written as a duet and i hope to find a good male artist to collaborate with on this one), Powered By Love was co-written with Shane Nicolson at the DAG in 2019, Find a better day with Mary Haller from Nashville, 'I Don't Wanna Be Sober' was written with Chuck Townz and Micheal Townz, 'You're Perfect' was a solo project.
I Need Faith is a love project which i'm not sure will be released as is but i do want to get this song released at some point. It's my most vulnerable song and the one that I've been singing to myself for 10 years+ Sitting on it and waiting for the right time to work on it with the right team of people.

Singer-songwriter and actor Rae Leigh featured on episode 4, season 2 of the hit NBC universal TV show ‘Young Rock’ with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as a Nashville singer in the 80’s covering Dwight Yoakam’s ‘Honky Tonk Man’ in the same week her single ‘Push Em Up Jill’ produced by Angus Gil hit number one on the Australian National country radio airplay charts. All right before her debut appearance at the Tamworth Country Music Festival 50th anniversary in 2022. 

Rae is passionate about connecting people through the power of stories and the arts. As an acclaimed artist receiving radio support from the likes of ABC Brisbane, ABC Gold Coast, 98.9 Triple A, Murri Country and many more.

Rae is an active collaborator having worked with songwriters both in Australia and Nashville, TN (USA). In 2020, she was awarded a $10,000 prize package from JMC Academy through the Logan City Council Live which resulted in the CMT listed single ‘Just Like That’. Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant was awarded to Rae Leigh for the development of her new single ‘Love Me’ to be released mid 2022 produced by Nashville based Australian producer Michael Flanders. 

Rae maintains a busy performing schedule, performing locally as well as around Australia. In 2021, she co-headlined with Adam Brand at the MMG 85th Fun Fair (Rosebery, Tasmania) and ANZAC Day Vietnam Veteran Reunion Event (Bairnsdale, Victoria), She is performing at the 50th Anniversary Tamworth Country Music Festival in April 2022 and is confirming shows for; Brisbane, Melbourne,  Tasmania and Gold Coast in late 2022. She’s working with Kross Kut Records on a new single ‘Blue Shoes’  which was optioned for ‘Young Rock’ when she was on the show and will be released on Friday 22nd April 2022.

Rae Leigh is also the founder of Songwriter Trysts podcast - an online platform giving visibility and support to other songwriters. With 180+ podcast episodes to date, including; Hanson, Pat Pattison, Allan Caswell, Amber Lawrence, Kevin Welch, Marty Dodson, Aimee Mayo, Colin Buchanan, Adam Brand, Jimmy Fortune, Bill Whyte, James Blundell and Chris Wallin  just to name a few.
