2022 Glastonbury emerging artist Raelle releases her next single ‘Grace’ with Paul Bridgewater from Line of Best Fit calling the track “So understated and yet complex at the same time”. Written between London and Berlin with Gabriel Gifford, Raelle moves away from her traditional neo-soul roots to embrace a darker, richer and more nuanced sound. Blending neo and symphonic soul influences with a more up-tempo beat, Raelle takes you on a journey of finding herself again after the torment and depression of a broken relationship, as she calls for someone or something to help her. The song starts with a melancholic swell of a live string quartet, before the catchy drum soon accompanied by the rich vibrations of the bass kick in. Raelle’s haunting vocals and draw you in, as she tales a story of losing herself to depression. Featuring live recorded strings, the song takes you on a journey of understanding ones own self-identity, exploring the complex dynamics between love, loss and hate, and sinking back into the dark that is depression and losing a sense of who you are, before calling on ‘Grace’ to help navigate your way back.

When speaking about Grace Raelle says that “Grace is a metaphor for calling on a higher power whether that be something inside yourself, or something else to help you get out of this dark place. This song is a cry for help, and explores feelings that come with depression such as the feeling that you are sinking as life overwhelms you, as well as the feelings of love and hate that linger after the breakdown of a relationship that can send your head spiralling. This song represents a feeling that many of us know well but may not be able to put into words, it represents the want and the will to carry on, but not quite knowing how. It represents the loneliness and isolation that comes with depression, and recognising that at the end of the day, the only person who is coming to save you is you”

Grace

Cruel Nostalgia a follow up single by Raelle, after releasing her last single Grace at the beginning of the year. This co produced jazz-orchestral RnB fusion track tells a story of life after loss, after losing a close friend to suicide at the beginning of the year, Raelle found herself in a spiral of grief and constantly looking into her past for comfort. She found grief to be something that isolating and where she would get lost in her memories of how things used to be, yearning for them to be the same again. Finding peace in these memories, but tinged with sadness knowing that these happy memories are a thing of the past and now with that person gone, so is all the hope in creating new moments and memories with them again in the future. The track features live orchestral arrangements, using brass and a heavy bass line with acid style drums to bring the piece alive contrasted with the swell and yearning of the live string arrangements that create a sense of joy, partnered with her emotive and clever lyrics and complex vocal harmony arrangements, Raelle has created a track that fully encompasses the freedoms and joys of childhood, tinged with the bitterness that is growing up and being unable to take everything you once loved with you.

Cruel Nostalgia

Raelle releases her new single, ‘Falling,’ the brand new single of her upcoming ‘Bloodlines’ EP. Encompassing the jazz-dark orchestral and RnB fusion sound, it reflects the gravity of the emotions being passed on through generational trauma within her Jamaican family. It is the ultimate story of betrayal and manipulation.

Falling

The final song on the Bloodlines EP, this explosive funk-tinged track is the cathartic release that the Bloodlines EP builds up to. Before this Raelle has expressed emotions of loss, of losing oneself, anger, betrayal and grief, before she lands on hope. “Hope is the last thing and sometimes the only thing we have to hold onto” is what Raelle says and it is the driving force behind this explosive track. Going through the motions of what it has been like as a child of Jamaican immigrants of the Windrush, she recounts her experiences and tales and the subsequent impact these generational curses has had on her life and where they have led her. “These things can leave you bitter and full of hate, but the purpose of this EP is to break generational curses”. Choosing to heal and choosing to see the person behind the perpetrator of these actions is something that Raelle has learned through the process of creating this body of work. To be able to recognise as just another human who has been hurt, who has loved, who has lost and recognising their strength as an individual who left their home to find and create a better life for themselves. This song is not a search for perfection, but one to appreciate and love the flaws in the individual. The message of the song, sung by Raelle in ethereal tones “Give me some hope, so I can find peace” is a message that runs true throughout and sums up the project, it is one of hope for a better tomorrow for herself and the entire Caribbean community here in the UK, so that we may all find peace within ourselves and our past.

Collard, Raelle, S. Fidelity, and Gabiga release their new single, ‘Stolen’. The collaboration was birthed in Limoux, France at a writing camp organised by Zahlbach Publishing.

Raelle - “Four artists, living in three different countries, paths aligned. Connecting on musical influences, each of us were able to bring a piece of their soul to the process. Produced by S. Fidelity, and instrumentation by Gabiga, the sparse beat provides the perfect framework for Collard and I to engage in a melodic dance.”

Gabiga is a Swiss-born music producer and multi-instrumentalist with Brazilian and Italian roots and S. Fidelity is also Swiss-born & Berlin based artist and producer. This track is close to home as Raelle and Collard were raised in the same part of South London bringing that sense of familiarity to the track, which can be heard in the intimate moments that exists within Raelle’s and Collard’s vocal performance, as they express their woes of the anxieties that accompany, loss, love and life.

Collard - “We all came together after only knowing each other after a day and trusted each others creativity to make something beautiful. Raelle and I discussed the lyrical aim in depth dissecting the feelings associated with loss of love and how that can leave you unnerved and cynical. We also loved the idea of having these duet moments in the song as we both agreed that duets of male & female vocals have become too rare in today's music.”

S. Fidelity - “It’s very easy to pinpoint the rare moments when everything just lines up perfectly and creating feels truly pure and effortless. 'Stolen' was one of those. The heat of the French sun meeting the dark thoughts in one's mind, marinating together in a magical way to make you dance.”

Our group dynamic allowed us to effortlessly slip into a state of flow, providing an environment where our diverse influences came together, resulting in the creation of something truly distinctive and beautiful.”

Collard x Raelle x S. Fidelity x Gabiga - STOLEN

Following on from “Stolen”, Raelle introduces her next single “Pressure”. 

Following the trend, “Pressure” is an international collaboration, written and recorded between London Berlin and France by Raelle, with Gabriel Gifford producing and writing the piece alongside her. 

“Pressure”tells the story of losing yourself within narcissistic abuse, and being able to come to terms with and being able to understand how someone who is meant to love you be the same person to cause you the most harm- yet still you can’t let go of them. “Still I question why, why you always seek for my demise” 

The production of this piece includes live drums from Emanuel J Burton
(Little Simz, FKJ, Sault, Yazmin Lacey), live horns, bass and guitar section, with elements of dub and reggae intertwined.

When speaking on Pressure Raelle states, “It is a song that represents the closure of a chapter both musically and in my personal life, of holding space for people who take my kindness for weakness, it is the mourning of both myself for the person who was hurt, and to a relationship that truly never was, it is a song about taking back your power and the unsteady in-between journey that it may be”

Entering the music industry just little over a year ago, Raelle started making soul music from her bedroom, Inspired by an eclectic mix of artists from Isaac Hayes to Beach House and Janis Joplin to Cleo Sol, with the simple goal of creating a sound that represented her, and share her experiences with the small hope someone might find a piece of themselves in her writing.
