The Magpie

Gwydion fab Dôn  is a magician, hero and trickster of Welsh mythology, appearing most prominently in the Fourth Branch of the Mabinogi, which focuses largely on his relationship with his young nephew, Lleu Llaw Gyffes. He also appears prominently in the Welsh Triads, the Book of Taliesin and the Stanzas of the Graves.

The name Gwydion (which should more properly be spelled Gwyddien in Modern Welsh, as can be adduced from its Old Welsh form Guidgen; cognate with Old Irish Fidgen) may be interpreted as "Born of Trees"

Rhiannon is a major figure in the Mabinogi, the medieval Welsh story collection. She appears mainly in the First Branch of the Mabinogi, and again in the Third Branch. She is a strong-minded Otherworld woman, who chooses Pwyll, prince of Dyfed (west Wales), as her consort, in preference to another man to whom she has already been betrothed. She is intelligent, politically strategic, beautiful, and famed for her wealth and generosity. With Pwyll she has a son, the hero Pryderi, who later inherits the lordship of Dyfed. She endures tragedy when her newborn child is abducted, and she is accused of infanticide. As a widow she marries Manawydan of the British royal family, and has further adventures involving enchantments.

In certain cultures around the world, European, Native American, and Asian, there have been stories and myths told about white stag.

In European mythology magical animals are striking in appearance owing to their supernatural shape, color, speed, and power; a frequent attribute of those animals is an unnatural white color.

In Celtic mythology the pursuit of supernatural animals is a common theme. The white stag or hart often appears in the forests around King Arthur’s court, sending the knights on adventures against gods and fairies.

On a music making tour of Australia, I was taken on a 'walk about' with some aboriginal shamans for my birthday. Talking around the camp fire at night, I found that they have a male deity rather like the Greenman in my tradition. His name is Blackfella.

Inspired by my friend, geomancer and labyrinth builder Allan Lopes in Brazil. An amazing guy! I want to work with him again.

Working with Brasilian Shaman Kaká Werá at a workshop in the rain forest. We swapped songs. He would sing a song from his tradition and then I would sing/play a piece from my Celtic tradition.

For this piece, I suddenly started singing in a language that I don't know - there was a tape recorder running, so I had it for posterity. The second part is in English.

I'm about to post a longer version of the new language part - a remix of sorts!
