The Project: Record the sound of ice in a glass and make something with it.

These ice samples were recorded by whirling ice cubes in a growler back in 2017. I looped a section and processed that through a Make Noise Strega, recording the piece mostly as one improvised take where I 'played' the filter to create layers of feedback in the delay. There is one overdub where I improvised repitching the same ice loop in Samplr and also processed that through the Strega, creating different tones of delay feedback. There's a bit of judicious volume envelope editing added in post to calm the feedback swells a bit. It all reminded me of a slow motion version of the wild ricochet sounds made by dropping ice down a bored ice core well.

My contribution for the project. A rhythmic experiment in VCV Rack 2. I am new to this tool. Removed the parts that didn't fit and left some room for other people's ideas.

Disquiet Junto Project 0525: Magic Number (1 of 3)
The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to invite, encourage, and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music, on any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive it as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in.

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2. When done, if possible, pan the audio so that your piece is solely in the left side of the stereo spectrum.

Step 4: Also, and this is important, be sure, when done, to make your track downloadable, because it will be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project.

When life begins we are tender and weak, when life ends we are stiff and rigid. All things, the grass, the trees, the animals, in life they are soft and pliant. In death they are dry and brittle; an army that cannot yield will suffer defeat and a tree that cannot bend will break. So the soft and supple enjoys the companions of life and the stiff and unyeilding are the companions of death. Surrender brings perfection, embrace emptiness and the whole universe is yours.
The sage becomes nothing and gains everything.
Not displaying himself he shines forth, not promoting himself he is distinguished, not claiming reward he gains merit, not seeking glory his glory endures, he does not compete so no-one competes with him.
Such a being rides upon the clouds and enters the sun, passing out of this world with ease and into the Eternal.
Fear nothing, except the failure to experience your true nature.
Speak nothing unless you have lived it first.
The gate of heaven is wide open, without a single obstruction before it.
I sometimes wonder when I will wake up? Wake up to see that there is truly nothing to fear.
I sometimes wonder whether I am a man dreaming that I am a butterfly, or am I a butterfly dreaming I am a man?
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? What can I do that hasn’t already been done?
The joy is simply in the Being.
Not being this or that.
I like watching the sun in the morning.
And the moon watches over me at night
