"It seems like no part of the world has evaded discos’ ubiquitous influence, including the Caribbean. The Caribbean in the late ’70s and early ’80s was a hotbed of musical activity and this compilation focuses on the best disco-influenced tracks from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. All of the tracks here were officially licensed and reissued for the first time ever.

Highlights of the 13 tracks included on this compilation are: the under-the-radar cosmic disco tune “Got To Have You” by Joanne Wilson, a rare P&P Records-influenced track “Dance With Me” by Odessey One, the icy cool synth-trenched “Living On A String” by Wild Fire, the incredible dance floor-friendly “Instant Funk” by Merchant, and the disco reggae cover of “Rapper’s Delight” by Prince Blackman. Our favorite São Paulo DJ is Rafael Cancian, long-time friend of MotorCity Wine, About Disco label boss, Mareh resident, and all-around good guy. The first time he played MotorCity Wine everyone was asking how a Brazilian DJ could sound so much like he's from Detroit! 

So at long last Rafa steps up with 2 brilliant edits on Hot Pot. "Heaven" takes up the A-side, a cosmic disco groover for midtempo dance floor ecstasy. Over to the B-side, "Nigeriac" is a syncopated Afro Funk Rock joint for those rare groove moments. Cut loud and hi-fi to 12", don't sleep.

Al Kent "Reason To Live"

From Piccadilly Records.....

That Neil Diablo from Manchester's El Diablo's Social Club shows his edit chops again, joining the Kat label roster for this new four tracker. Kicking things off is 'Cannae Believe', an Italo / New York dubbed out-disco slo-mo electro-disco cut with synth stabs and 'Love Is The Message'-esque pads floating over moody proto-house beats with sassy vocals to boot. Hit! Next up is 'Disco Special', a 'walking' mid-tempo melter which drops guitar-led Balearia, funky bass, arpeggiated synths, syncopated hand claps and space toms a-plenty before lifting off into string-filled ecstacy. Big! 

On the flip we have 'For Your Love' is a slinky 2-step soul gem originally released in 1982 by the Fats Gaines Band and featuring sublime vox by Zorina. Stretched, diced and strung beautifully back together, this has summer anthem written all over it. Finishing things off is 'Christina Debs, Behind Bars''. Presumably by Christina Originally out on Ze Records and produced in Detroit by Don Was in 1984, this low-slung nu-wave disco chugger adds another dimension to proceedings and this EP feels all the mightier for it.
