A2.ORBE - Big Expansion

In April 2023, Tresor Records will unveil a new EP from DALO entitled "GUM". DALO, aka Nadia D'Alo, is one of the founders of the R.i.O label and half of the duo INIT. After several years of performing as INIT with Benedikt Frey, she had her solo live debut in Berlin in 2022. This record follows releases on labels such as ESP Institute and Warning. "GUM" showcases DALO's expert mastery of rising tension through analogue sound sources, as it swings in and remains with minimal changes and accentuation.

"Woodpecker" enters a tunnel of reverberant claps, moving in a potent exercise of deftly manipulated acid. "Wavehall" draws vocal smears across expansive, droning basses and 140bpm techno rhythms. In "Backlash", she takes inspiration from events of Iranian and Afghan women revolting for their rights, expressing hope for the rebound of control after long political oppression. Electro beats are introduced underneath the full-frontal melodic acid, while processed spoken word samples bring a new focus. DALO takes the rebounding control and strives forward into the unknown with "GUM", its segmented vocal samples playing a captivating partnership with acidic slides. The EP closes with "Pilot," a digital bonus track that releases some of the tension built up throughout and propels the dancer towards transcendent shapes.

Beneath every observable behavior lies a complex system of signals traveling from one corner of the brain to another, often influenced by an imperceptible subconscious that materializes into perfectly observable and actionable actions: dancing at 140 BPM in a pulsating club, rolling eyes in frustration, perspiring under the hypnotic strobe lights... and this amalgamation of responses is what we know as “Overt Behavior”.

In this remarkable debut EP, the producer and psychology enthusiast, Cosmic Anomaly, grants us a captivating glimpse into the inner workings of his mind. The EP is an incredibly original creation, produced entirely with modular synthesizers, showcasing an exquisite mastery of technique that serves as an ideal launching pad for his discography.

Within the tracks, you'll find shattered rhythms, fierce percussions, and synthesizers that seem to penetrate the very essence of being, making their way to the core of the listener's consciousness. The cohesiveness and sonic maturity achieved by this twenty-three-year-old artist is astonishing, showcasing a profound presence in our music scene with much to express.

I recently had the pleasure and honour of playing the first Abstract Audio event, which is a "collaboration between em.ash, JeniMack, DE Radio/Marc Gerrad, Gemini Rentals/Sleepy, Movement With Music, and Renegade Sound Collective"

Myself and one of my dearest friends Two filters and a dream, took to the decks for ~90ish minutes and had an absolute blast. Definitely one of the best shows in memory, and I'm happy to say it was perfectly recorded by the crew there. 

It was probably as perfect of a night as you could have asked for. A sold out show, a crowd that packed the dancefloor early, and a space that was decorated with taste and a sound system that pounded loud and clear. Keep your eyes peeled for more events from this crew in the future!

This happened near my home town of the Courtenay BC, in Cumberland.

Premiere: 8.L.A. — Secret Pulse [Analog Section]

June 28th at the Downbeat was a very memorable night, with an amazing crowd. Everyone played great music, and myself and Two Filters had an absolute blast. We played twice that evening, 10 - 11 PM to warm things up for Freya, as she was warming things up for Cataphonic, and we played again from 1 - 2 AM where we really turned up the heat!

SUBCULTURE presents: RAFH & Two Filters and a Dream (Live)

July 5th for Summer Nights @ The Mex was a very fun evening. JoJo Dancer warmed up the room for Freya , who took over at 10 PM , by which time the dancefloor was getting pretty packed! RAFH and Two Filters then took over around 11 PM and continued to take everyone on a journey through house, indie dance, techno, disco, and back again! The crowd was absolutely amazing! Big Thanks to those who tuned into the live twitch stream, and of course, a big thank you to Adil and the rest of the 'about the music' crew for throwing such a fun filled event!
