يقول عمار الشريعي :كان عزف أوركسترا لندن لم يكن صعباً بل مصيبة الشركة المنتجة لم تخبرني بهذا الأمر في البداية، وعندما انتهيت من الكتابة أخبروني، وقيل لي إن المايسترو يريد أن يري «الكتابة» فسألت مندهشاً «عايز يمتحنّي؟» فأجابوني وما المشكلة، وقتها اخترت جملة قوية مما كتبت وأرسلتها، وبعد أقل من نصف ساعة جاءني الرد عبر الإيميل «يشرفنا عزف هذه الموسيقي»!! كنت خائفاً، كنت خائفاً علي موسيقاي أن يعزفها الإنجليز بلكنة خواجاتي! وأنا مصري جداً، لو جرحتني سأنزف «فول»!! ، وأوركسترا لندن شيء مهول، عازفوه مصنفون كلهم فئة «أ»، وأسلوب العمل فيه، ويكفي أن تعرف أنهم سجلوا قبلنا بيوم واحد موسيقي فيلم «شفرة دافنشي»، وعندما ذهبت لهناك صدمني النظام الذي يسير به العمل، الكل يعرف دوره ويجلس علي كرسيه في موعده بالدقيقة، تقدير كامل من العازف والمايسترو.. لحظات لا تنسي من القلق والانتظار ثم الهدوء والاستمتاع.
بعد نصف دقيقة من بدء التسجيل شعرت بالاطمئنان، وجدت الموسيقي التي كتبتها تعزف كأفضل ما يكون، ولا أنسي هنا عازف التشيلو المصري يحيي المهدي الذي تركت له حرية أداء الجمل الخاصة به، حتي إنني كتبت النوتة علي عزفه وليس العكس وقد بهر أداؤه الإنجليز، ولم يصدقوا في البداية أنه تشيلو، أعود إلي لحظات التسجيل وكيف شعرت بالاطمئنان بعد نصف دقيقة من بدء التسجيل لأجد يداً باردة تسقط علي يدي، وصوت شريف عرفة المبلل بالدموع وهو يقول «لا أصدق أن هذه مزيكتنا»!! وقد استغرق التسجيل ثماني ساعات كاملة لـ٥٨ دقيقة موسيقي!

Variations for Piano and Orchestra based on an ancient Syrian theme by composer and pianist Malek Jandali (http://MalekJandali.com) founder of Pianos for Peace (http://PianosForPeace.org)

With a performing time of only eight minutes, the seven Variations present different views of the same background material: forwards, backwards, inverted, in constantly shifting and varied orchestral settings, from extended multi-colored monody to monochromatic polyphony. There is no theme as such, but the opening statement is rich in gesture, rhythmic and intervallic motives that echo throughout the piece in a subtle, non-literal way. The Variations are replete with allusions to the inspiring ancient Syrian theme “Lama Bada Yatathana”, a sophisticated and intriguing 10/8 melody that is introduced with the French Horn to resemble the passion of love.

Recorded with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra in Moscow under the baton of Sergey Kondrashev and released with Syrian Symphony album on January 31, 2015 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
