It would come as no surprise if we said (as we have before) that the Japanese are known for being proper crate diggers, their record shops are like heaven on earth (as their country and people) plus their technique is extremely precise and disciplined, as they are. Our journey through Japan was the highlight of Toi Toi's 5 months world tour, here is a fine piece of it. 

Kabuto is a resident Dj of the Cabaret parties in Japan. For those that remember, Kabuto graced our decks at the afterparty of our Daniel Bell / Steve O'Sullivan party one year ago. It is with great pleasure on our last visit to Japan, following his outstanding set at DOMMUNE﻿ just before Voigtmann,﻿ we asked him to take part on our mix series. Enjoy it. <3

Hitting the ground running in 2012 Ruben &amp; Ra are taking a break from the studio for the first full artist release on Retrospective. Who’s capable hands better to choose for this one than our in house hero Rayko? After bringing Fil Lavin to the ever-growing Retrospective fold for RETRO005 – Soul Brother, featuring Ruben &amp; Ra’s Souled Out Dub, Rayko is back with a 4 tracker of edits, which are sure to please. 

Already causing a storm on floors across the globe People (Rayko birthday edit) harps back to the sounds of the 80’s with big synths, a hypnotic groove &amp; a bassline that can’t be resisted. Showing his true colours, Rayko delivers a dubbed out edit of The O’Jays – Heads Together with a full vocal version being this release’s FREE 320k download available on SoundCloud. On the flip is Revue bringing some house infused retro boogie swing to the E.P. before a Rayko trademark re-interpretation of Unlimited Touch - Searching To Find The One.

One could say that 2011 was Rayko’s year with his hit Broadway being recently announced as the No.1 disco track of 2011 on Juno, but we think that this is just the beginning for him with bigger things to come. Born in the Canary Islands, Rayko is a producer and DJ deeply influenced by the artists and sounds of the 70's and 80's. These influences led him to launch his own label; Rare Wiri in the summer of 2008, gaining immediate critical acclaim with it's first release making Record of the Week at Manchester's highly regarded Piccadilly Records. Rayko has an impressive portfolio of releases under his belt and has an almost insatiable thirst for editing both classics and lost gems in his distinctive and infectious style. Rayko is also an artist central to the Retrospective All Starrs project, which will feature a variety of names from the slowed down house and nu disco scene. Hailing from Chicago, the city which gave birth to House music Rahaan has been spinning house and disco since the 80’s when he started playing at house parties across the city.

In the 3 decades since Rahaan has become a Chicago legend, a DJ who is widely recognised for his exceptional skills behind the decks and his exquisite taste in music. Lately he has also been earning plaudits for his production skills with some truly outstanding releases.

Recently he has released on some key labels including Lumberjacks In Hell, Street Edits and Dopeness Galore. His tracks are steeped in dancefloor groove, music made by a DJ with the sole intention of moving that floor.

Rahaan is a producer who has clearly learned his trade via many hours behind the decks studying the flow of the dance-floor and the tracks which have the power to excite and enthral.

Starting off playing from cassette tapes with a group of friends under the moniker ‘Chuck Brothers’ he started to build an extensive house and disco collection in the 90’s after a move to Wisconsin. A return to Chicago in 1996 saw him start to build his stellar reputation as one of Chicago’s stand out house and disco DJs with residencies at ‘The Spot’ and one of Chicago’s best clubs ‘Buddha Lounge’. A reputation he would cement with gigs all over the globe in the proceeding years.
