A close close friend of mine told me today that I should probably post around the same time of day every week when I put up a song. I feel like I would've been overly ready to be super on point with all that a few years ago, but either its the supreme confidence I've developed in myself, my faith in the music or the  "live in the present" mentality  that has blossomed over the past year (among numerous other factors) I feel like these logistics don't seem to strike me as being as important as they used to aside from the fact of actually putting out music consistently *shrug*. That being said, I understood where this person was coming from so for future posts, I'll give the punctuality a more conscious effort. 

Now, to the song...

SxLO Mixtape Track 2: God Bless (prod by Syndrome)

This track was recorded in mid 2017, around April or May. To start, I have noticed I definitely have a thing for chill guitar vibes which I loved about this beat and since the start of my poetic ventures I've always enjoyed story telling, a trend that'll be more noticeable as the releases continue.

The verses were inspired by true events w some creative embellishment, but are not about anybody specifically. From what I remember, my goal was to kinda paint a picture of some of the day to day struggles that may feel relatable to those who came from an up-bringing similar to my own. 

The last two things I want to say about this track are that I wasn't sure if it necessarily fit in sonically with the rest of the mixtape, but I'm cool with that being left up for debate.

SxLO Mixtape Track 4: Diamond (prod by Fly Melodies) 

What can I say about this song... To start, it is almost exactly a year ago to the date that I created it. Minus production, and minus the various tweaks to the editing over the year, it took me approximately three days to make this song start to finish. This was also the first track I started experimenting with voice modulation and really just trying out a more sporadic approach to song writing. 

The inspiration for this track was largely derived from self-reflection and growth, but to be honest it felt more like it pieced itself together rather than a song that required a more conscious effort. 

The last thing I'll add is that personally, this is probably my favorite track  that I have created so far.

Last Summer Mixtape Track 3: City of Light (prod by Cxdy)

Another song that was made approximately a year ago. This song was def one of the most (what I like to refer to as) scatterbrained and sporadic when it comes to structure. 

From what I remember the title was the first thing that came to me and it had a few meanings to it. The most prominent perspective referred to being enlightened and much more aware of the capabilities I possess. As for the other possible angles, I'd rather leave that up for interpretation.

This track started as an exercise in sampling. Initially I was attempting to make just a beat with a bunch of change ups and layers, but as I crafted it out, and got feedback on the initial versions, it seemed appropriate to include a couple verses in it too. This track was the first one where I did a significant amount of production work after recording the vocals. Doing so mos def felt like somewhat of a paradigm shift in how I create music and learning more about the layers that go into a song. FYI, the greasy synth that kicks in during the hook and the melodic stabs that occur were the main additions. Sorry if this post got a little too nerdy. This shit feels like a video game sometimes though.

Caught Up in a Moment

Thank you again and again to Phenom for helping set the mood of this song. Initially I sent her the beat and the title, and the hook she came up with set the tone and the verses kinda just spilled out. Also her ad-lib game is wild and def allowed for some great sampling opportunities which you'll hear in the second verse. 

The song itself is a moody, late night vibe that details the struggle of trying to stay present and not become overwhelmed by the experiences and narratives that we have occurring in our minds.

Locks ft. Phenom

Collaborated w some local talent and created this gem. The sample complimented by the keys and ambient sounds really set the stage for some wonderfully introspective verses (in my humble opinion lol)The verses detail the whole concept of learning to flow like water to situations in life and adapting to changing environments without judgement and emotional overreactions. Enjoy!

Low key, late night, backpack, alternative rap. Spacey with some soul vibes. Think Kid Cudi mixed with J Cole and some Frank Ocean.
