Our next episode comes from a very special sound lover called arkadiusz. He created a wonderful podcast for us, which disturbs the neighbours at a very smooth pace. His musical direction can be described as "hypnochill", which we  can fully understand after listening to the set.

"Sol Selectas embarks on its seventh annual summer compilation which collects together tracks from around the world and releases them on the day of the summer solstice, which is the year's longest day of sunlight.

Summer Sol VII is a 26-track release that features music ranging from atmospheric deep house to percussive Afro house and downtempo electronic full of organic textures.

It includes tracks by label favourites such as Goldcap, Yamil, Guy Maayan and label owner Sabo, plus Sol Selectas debuts from artists like Safar (FR), Murmusica, and Amour Propre. In total the compilation features many new artists who are all being welcomed into the Sol Selectas family via their debut on this release.

The release features tracks from artists with roots in USA, Iran, Ukraine, Armenia, Turkey, France, Spain, Palestine, Colombia, Israel, Italy, Peru, Egypt, Mexico, Russia, Morocco, Eritrea, and Brazil. Together all these cultures and backgrounds combine to form the soundtrack of Summer and good vibrations.

Under the sun's rays we are all equal, regardless of skin colour, gender, political allegiances or sexuality, and this release is a celebration of how music brings people together. The music drifts from coast to coast, across several mountain ranges, deserts dunes and salty oceans.

Each of the tracks have their own story and is a little ray of sunshine to warm the mind, body and soul. All the previous releases in this annual series have been top sellers on Beatport, and this year is expected to be no different.

SOL095 - Summer Sol VII

PREMIERE: Adam Husa, Weam Ismail - Ghajary (Original Mix) [Sol Selectas]

On that full-moon day just before the summer solstice, Hekske (The Little Witch) took off from her home forest in Flanders and flew a whole day in Eastern direction over mountains and valleys, before she sensed she had reached her destination on the bank of the mighty Dnieper River, where she was welcomed by Irina (Ірина), a young witch whom she met already last spring (see Witchtape #117).  After a long welcome hug, Irina explained that she was sad because this year there were - for no apparent reason - no flowers in the lowlands around the river, while there were lots of butterflies.
After taking a refreshing bath in the majestic river, the girls chatted for the whole evening before drifting into a blissful sleep in each other’s arms.  The next morning, Irina explained that she had dreamt about a lost tribe of witches, who live on the other side of the Ural mountains.  After eating wild strawberries, raspberries and red currants for breakfast, both witches suddenly felt the urge to fly, after which they took off and flew towards the East.  Strangely, they were being followed by hundreds of colorful butterflies from all kinds of different species.  They flew East/Northeastwards over endless green plains, crossing the mighty Volga River and the rugged slopes of the Ural mountains, after which they flew over a dry and treeless steppe.  As the witches had to fly slowly so that the butterflies could catch up, the trip over western Siberia took several days.  They rested whenever they saw a river or a lake.  Finally, the landscape became greener and lusher again until they reached the majestic Ob River.  In the distance they saw a huge meadow full of flowers in the middle of a vast forest.  The witches gently touched down in the meadow, where they were being welcomed by a group of young witches.  Strangely, the butterflies didn’t land and kept on hovering high in the sky.  After the customary group hug, one of the witches (named Agniia / Агния) explained that this tribe of witches got isolated a few centuries ago, after a dispute of which nobody remembers the reason.  Since then, they live near this meadow which is full of flowers but without butterflies.  None of the Siberian witches had ever seen a butterfly and they only knew these insects from old stories and songs.  
Just at that moment, the butterflies gently fell down from the sky like snowflakes and immediately started to drink nectar and pollinate the countless flowers.  The Siberian witches looked in awe at the mesmerizing insects for hours.  They danced and giggled the whole day.  It was easily the happiest day of their lives. It was the day the butterflies returned …

Unsere Nr. 240 kommt heute von einem Berliner Künstler, welchen ich seit ungefähr zwei Jahren verfolge. Sein Sound ist zum einen träumerisch und melodisch, aber auch druckvoll und deep zugleich. Die goldene Mitte zu finden gelingt ihm dabei immer.

Die Rede ist von Francesco Rizzi der mit seinem groovigen, melodischen und hypnotischen Sound im Gewand des Downtempos immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut ist. Dazu aber später mehr. Zudem ist er Teils des aufstrebenden Berliner Kollektivs ‚Pandora‘ (https://soundcloud.com/pandora-crew-official) und der Karlsruher Bande von ‚Kollektiv Liebe‘ (https://soundcloud.com/kollektiv-liebe).

Sein für uns aufgenommenes Set hat mich anfangs tatsächlich vollkommen überrascht. Neben vielen dezent verspielten und teils verschickten Elementen macht er von Anfang an klar, wohin die Reise geht. Nämlich in die Zeit des Sonnenaufgangs. Die Klänge sind federleicht, fast schon hypnotisch, als ob die ersten Sonnenstrahlen auf dem Gesicht tanzen und doch zugleich bestimmend und subversiv drückend. Generell ist der Anfang des Podcasts phänomenal. Hier treffen nämlich hypnotische und groovige Soundelemente aufeinander und verbinden sich mit cineastischen Melodien zu einem extraterrestrischen Erlebnis. Im weiteren Verlauf eröffnet er dem Hörer sein eingangs beschriebenes Soundverständnis und wechselt konsistent zwischen Spannung und Entspannung ab. Trotz des leicht erhöhten, aber immer noch stark reduzierten Tempi grooven die Tracks weiterhin und entfalten erst so eine tiefenerweiternde Wirkung. Hier ein Clap, da eine verschrobene Acidline, da eine Melodie….ja das passt. Und dies über 149 Minuten. Definitiv eine Klasse Interpretation seiner Afterhour.

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour ist. Keine Phrase, keine Fake-News, sondern ehrliche Worte eines musikverliebten Spessarters.

Ich danke dir vielmals Francesco für dieses besondere Set. Umwerfend tiefenergreifend und erfrischend gut. Chapeu.

Anbei noch seine Stellungnahme zu unseren Fragen:

Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?
Wenn der Gute-Laune-Train einmal ins rollen gekommen ist steht der guten Afterhour so wieso nichts mehr im Wege. Tschu, Tschu,.. und
mindestens genauso wichtig ist es natuerlich wo und wem du dich Gemeinsam auf diese Reise begibst, gerne mit neuen, als auch alten
Bekanntschaften und am besten eine ausgewogene Mischung! :)

 Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?
Aspetta e vedrai! Was soviel heißt wie: warte ab und du wirst sehen!
Wenn du nicht gerade auf einer Afterhour am ab Steppen bist, hoere dir das Set doch gerne beim naechtlichen Spaziergang an. Das tue ich
zumindest sehr gerne, das holt mich meistens nochmal ganz anders ab. :)

Francesco Rizzi presents "Icarus hidden willow walk" Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 240

Bei dieser sonntags Spezialausgabe des KataHaifisch Podcasts handelt es sich um einen Livemitschnitt aus dem Katerblau. Der Erschaffer dieses Sets und jedes einzelnen Tracks darin ist Christian Hülshoff. In liebevoller Handarbeit wurden die selbstproduzierten Songs vor den Augen und Ohren der Katerblau-Crowd in ein Liveset verwoben. Dabei ist die Atmosphäre sowohl entspannt, als auch treibend zugleich. Man verliert sich nur all zu leicht in den mystisch anmutenden Klängen und die Grenzen zwischen Zeit & Raum verschwimmen. 
Christian Hülshoff trifft mit diesem Set wieder einmal voll ins schwarze. Er bleibt seiner Linie treu und entwickelt sich dennoch stetig weiter. Sein einzigartiger Sound ist mitreißend und eignet sich ideal zum tanzen.
