And there, I found Him, silent, near,
a presence felt, a voice so clear.

From the soul’s great sky to the hollow below,
from the endless light to the name you know.

You wronged yourself, oh, son of man,
when you caged your soul in a name’s command.
You carved the world, gave it shape and form,
but what is real, if all is worn?

Names deceive you, oh, son of rain,
words will bind, words will chain.
The first word you spoke, the first name you gave,
was the first war you fought, the first life you claimed.

Man And Names

My friend leans close,
his memory torn,
pain too old,
too weary, too worn.

"At night," he says,
"the world don’t own me."
"At night, the names”
"they don’t control me."
"At night, I hear the virgin scream"
"‘Under the cloak, my father, is the rot of a thousand years.’"

My friend, he’s a man that pain forgot,
left him hollow, left him shot.
And the virgin wails in the eastern night,
where the sun don’t rise, where the past don’t die.

"Under the cloak, my father," she cries,
"is the rot of a thousand years inside."

Ain’t no dancing in the East,
ain’t no singing, ain’t no peace.
The night runs long, the dawn runs late,
ghosts still wear their veils of fate.

And her father?
Oh yeah, I know his name
he walks at night, he hides in shame.
He carries me, I carry him,
but when the morning breaks, he sheds his skin.

Oh, he wears his robe, his saintly face,
he leaves the truth without a trace.
He denies me
but I know him still.

And the virgin wails,
a voice from the East,
a voice that time would not release.

"Under the cloak, my father," she cries,

In the foam of the third cup,
Desire lingers, pain unfolds…
And I,

My friend rests his hand,
On the weight of a question,
A touch untouched by sin,
A need now laid to rest.

For beauty is bound to doubt,
Trapped in longing, caught in fear,
Owned by those who name its worth,
Yet never hold it near.

I answer—

Despite the place,
Despite the silence,
Despite the color fading fast,
Into a name that never lasts.

In the silence of the fourth cup,
Pride grows tired, words grow thin,
The ink remains, but paper fades,
So I conceal you deep within.

Knowing I

I know Him, like the prophets knew,
Like the mystic, falling through.
He rises high when He falls low,
A secret that the Sufis know.

I know Him, like the words in stone,
Like the name I carved alone.
The language breaks, the meaning sways,
And still, He lingers in my bones.

Oh, the seeker, lost and found,
Spins in circles, bound to ground.
A word, a breath, a name, a call—
And still, He waits beyond the sound.

The doer stands, his name held high,
A tongue too proud to wonder why.
Raised in books and in the laws,
But still the void calls back his lies.

Oh, the doer hides behind the deed,
Clings to words he dare not read.
Love and war, the same old creed,
The same old fire, the same old need.

What is seen and what is known,
What is spoken, overthrown.
A call unanswered, a door half-closed,
A secret buried in the stone.

Nothing for the Soul but the Mediterranean

There’s nothing for the soul but the Mediterranean...

If I die, throw open the windows,
let the wind taste what’s left of me.
Burn my body before the Alps,
let the ending be sane, let it be free.

Then scatter my ashes in the sea,
let my soul dissolve in legend.
Let my mother weep for myths untold,
for roses drifting, stories ended.

Don’t take my body through the sky,
the earth must breathe me too.
She bore my longing, bore my thirst,
let her take what’s due.

Don’t take me south in the dark of night,
the sun deserves her farewell too.
I worshiped her rise, I chased her fire,
let her watch me go as I watched her bloom.

Nothing For The Soul

Because truth is half yours, 
half the silence of a world gone mad.
And all of it belongs to someone else—
to what must be, to what is willed, to what is claimed.

Because the palm trees are shadows,
breaking, falling, lost in the dust.
Because they never crossed the bridge,
never walked the river, never touched the sea.
And if Jerusalem had a name,
that sailed beside Gaza’s waves,
I would have waited there for God.

Because less than poetry is saying "I love you."
Because the poem belongs to what was before you and me.
To what came before joy and sorrow,
to what follows after the elegy.

Because the hymn keeps taking me back,
to all I have lost, all that was left.
Because a hymn is hollow,
when it’s forced to march ahead.
Because the land holds us tight,
but never in longing, only in want.
Because longing for home,
delays the journey to… if only.
And if the sea had water,
to cool Gaza’s burning dreams,
I would have waited there for our steps.

Because less than poetry is saying "I love you."
Because the poem belongs to what was before you and me.

Because strings listen,
when the trees begin to sing.
Because rain turns to fire,
in the faces of men.
Because closeness comes from thirst,
not from the blood we share.

Because waiting for you carries me to… if only.
And if the house had a door,
a window, and Gaza—
I would have waited for our birth there.

She haunts my mind, she clouds my view.

In the cloud forest night, no ghosts I need
No demons, no spirits, no cursed breed
Only knowledge, and that’s enough
To send my heart to the edge of fear

Tens of thousands, the beasts, they wait
Marking my steps, tracking my fate
Flipping through memories of human sins
As they sharpen their claws in the thick of the wind

They don’t need poison, they don’t need teeth
Their silence alone is a blade beneath
For they see me, I don’t see them

A hundred thousand years, a blink in time
Humans rise, climb to the sky
From prey to kings in a fleeting spark
Forgetting the fear of the beasts in the dark

But the jungle breathes, and the night still speaks
The vines still crawl, the branches creak
And here I stand, a wretched soul
Every muscle, every bone, under nature’s control

A few dark minutes in this cursed mist
Are enough to remind me of what I missed
The awe, the fear, the silent vow
To bow again, to bow right now

They know I’m here, they count my breath
They whisper low, they wait for death

On the edge of who I am, 
I cast my stone into the sea. 
The waves embraced it, soft and slow, 
Then pulled it down
eternally. 

I asked the gulls with sails so white, 
“What fate befell my stone tonight?” 
They sighed and whispered in the air, 
“It loved too much, it drowned in there.” 

Oh, the seagulls know the game, 
They dance with tides but not with shame. 
They keep their distance, light and free, 
Between their wings and the sea.

Like lovers lost in time and space.

without a sword,

Counting who’s left?
Or stop for a moment
To doubt its own theft?

We watch the window
For no reason at all,
Exhale relief
When it lands far off.
We count the minutes
Between each scream
And when it’s quiet too long,
We start to dream.

Does death ever tire?
Does it sleep at night?
Does it miss its mark,
Or dim its light?
Does it skip a breath,
Just one, by mistake?
To grant a mother
The time to wake?

We whisper madness
To fill the gap:
Did Death grow tired?
Did it take a nap?
Where has it gone?
Has it paused for grace
To let a child rest
In its hiding place?

Is it weeping in a bar,
Staring at its hands?
Ashamed of its medals,
Its blood-soaked plans?
Is it slow to change
Its uniform of grief
Too soaked with names
To find relief?

No, death doesn’t tire.
It just steps aside.
It waits for the silence
Then swallows the sky.
It lingers when mercy
Tries to resist…
And returns more cruel
When a child persists.

أَمِنَ الْمُدَامَةِ تَنْثَنِيْ سُكْرَا
أَمْ قَدْ سَقَتْكَ جُفُونُهَا خَمْرَا
نَثَرَتْ فَرِيدَ الدَّمْعِ حِينَ رَأَتْ
صَبّاً يُقَادُ إِلَى الرَّدَى نَثْرَا
إِنَّ الْوَدَاعَ وَإِنْ سَعِدْتُ بِهِ
لَيَزِيدُ كَامِنَ لَوْعَتِي حَرَّا
لَمَّا رَأَتْ لِلْبَيْنِ رَائِعَةً
تَطْوِي الْوِصَالَ وَتَنْشُرُ الْهَجْرَا
يُنْسِيكَ صِبْغُ أَدِيمِهِ الْخَمْرَا
وَتُرِيكَ غُرَّةُ وَجْهِهِ الْبَدْرَا
طِرْفَاً إِذَا مَخْتَالَ خِلْتَ بِهِ
صَلَفَاً مِنَ الْإِعْرَاضِ أَوْ كِبْرَ
وَأَغَرَّ نَهْدٍ لَوْ طَلَبْتُ بِهِ
شَأْوَ الْجَنَائِبِ بَذَّهَا حُضْرَا
لَا يَسْتَقِرُّ كَأَنَّ أَرْبَعَهُ
فُرْشٌ يَطَا مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْجَمْرَا
وَكَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا اكْتَسَى عَرَقَاً
وَرَقُ الشَّقَائِقِ يَحْمِلُ الْقَطْرَا
يَجْرِي وَيَعْطِفُهُ الْعِنَانُ كَمَا
عُطِفَ الْقَضِيبُ وَقَدْ غَدَا نَضْرَا

أَمِنَ المُدامَةِ تَنْثَني سُكْرا | السري الرفاء

أُخفِي الهَوَى وَمَدَامِعِي تُبْدِيهِ
وَأُمِيتُهُ وَصَبَابَتِي تُحْيِيهِ
وَمُعَذِّبِي حُلْوُ الشَّمَائِلِ أَهْيَفٌ،
قَدْ جُمِّعَتْ كلُّ المَحَاسِنِ فِيهِ
فكأنهُ فِي الحُسْنِ صُورَةُ يوسفٍ،
وكأنني فِي الحُزنِ مِثْلُ أبيهِ
يا حارقا بالنار وجه محبه
مهلا فإنّ مدامعي تطفيهِ
أحرق بها جسدي و كل جوارحي
واحرص على قلبي فإنك فيهِ
إن أنكر العشاق فيك صبابتي
فأنا الهوى و ابن الهوى و أبيهِ

أُخفِي الهَوَى وَمَدَامِعِي تُبْدِيهِ | ابن الفارض

زِدْني بفَرْطِ الحُبّ فيك تَحَيّرا
وارْحَمْ حشىً بلَظَى هواكَ تسعّرا
وإذا سألُتكَ أن أراكَ حقيقةً
فاسمَحْ ولا تجعلْ جوابي لن تَرى
قُل لِلّذِينَ تقدَّموا قَبلي ومَن
بَعدي ومَن أضحى لأشجاني يَرَى
عني خذوا وبي اقْتدوا وليَ اسمعوا
وتحدّثوا بصَبابتي بَينَ الوَرى

زِدْنِيْ بِفَرْطِ الْحُبِّ فِيْكَ تَحَيُّرَا | ابن الفارض

ما بالُ قَلبِكَ يا مَجنونُ قَد خُلِعا
في حُبِ مَن لا تَرى في نَيلِهِ طَمَعا
الحُبُّ وَالوُدُّ نِيطا بِالفُؤادِ لَها
فَأَصبَحا في فُؤادي ثابِتَينِ مَعا
طوبى لِمَن أَنتِ في الدُنيا قَرينَتُهُ
لَقَد نَفى اللَهُ عَنهُ الهَمَّ وَالجَزَعا
بَل ما قَرَأتُ كِتاباً مِنكِ يَبلُغُني
إِلّا تَرَقرَقَ ماءُ العَينِ أَو دَمَعا
أَدعو إِلى هَجرِها قَلبي فَيَتبَعُني
حَتّى إِذا قُلتُ هَذا صادِقٌ نَزَعا
لا أَستَطيعُ نُزوعاً عَن مَوَدَّتِها
وَيَصنَعُ الحُبُّ بي فَوقَ الَّذي صَنَعا
كَم مِن دَنيءٍ لَها قَد كُنتُ أَتبَعُهُ
وَلَو صَحا القَلبُ عَنها كانَ لي تَبَعا
وَزادَني كَلَفاً في الحُبِّ أَن مُنِعَت
أَحَبُّ شَيءٍ إِلى الإِنسانِ ما مُنِعا
اِقرَ السَلامَ عَلى لَيلى وَحَقَّ لَها
مِنّي التَحيَّةُ إِنَّ المَوتَ قَد نَزَعا
أَماتَ أَم هُوَ حَيٌّ في البِلادِ فَقَد
قَلَّ العَزاءُ وَأَبدى القَلبُ ما جَزِعا

مَا بَالُ قَلبِكَ يَا مَجنونُ قَد خُلِعا | قيس بن الملوح

هَل أَرتَجِي إِقبالَهُ وَقَبُولَهُ
وَالدَهرُ فِيهِ مُعارِضِي وَمُعانِدي
تَاللَهِ ما بالَيتُ بِالدُنيا وَمَن
فِيها إِذا كانَ الحَبيبُ مُساعِدي
أَفنَيتُ أَيّامي بِهَجرِكَ لِي فَصِل
قَبلَ المَماتِ وَلَو بِيَومٍ واحِدِ

لَوْلَا الحَيَاءُ مِنَ الرَّقِيبِ الرَّاصِدِ | ابن حبيش

يا مَوضِعَ الناظِرِ مِن ناظِري
وَيا مَكانَ السِرِّ مِن خاطِري

دَمي حَلالٌ لَهُ في الحِلِّ وَالحَرمِ
إِن كانَ سَفكُ دَمي أَقصى مُرادِكُمُ
فَلا عَدَت نَظرَةٌ مِنكُم بِسَفكِ دَمي
وَاللَه لَو عَلِمَت روحي بِمَن عَلِقَت
قامَت عَلى رَأسِها فَضلاً عَنِ القَدَمِ
يا لائِمي لا تَلُمني في هَواهُ فَلَو
عايَنتَ مِنهُ الَّذي عايَنتُ لَم تَلُمِ
يَطوفُ بِالبَيتِ قَومٌ لا بِجارِحَةٍ
بِاللَهِ طافوا فَأَغناهُم عَنِ الحَرَمِ
ضحى الحَبيبُ بِنَفسٍ يَومَ عيدِهِمُ
وَالناسُ ضَحّوا بِمِثلِ الشاءِ وَالنِعَمِ
لِلناسِ حَجٌّ وَلي حَجٌّ إلى سَكَني
تُهدي الأَضاحي وَأُهدي مُهجَتي وَدَمي

إِنَّ الحَبيبَ الَّذِي يُرضِيهِ سَفكُ دَمِي | الحلاج

شَفَّنِي وَجْدِي وأَبْلانِي السَّهَرْ
وَتَغَشَّتْنِي سَمَادِيرُ الْكَدَرْ
فَسَوادُ اللَّيْلِ مَا إِنْ يَنْقَضِي
وَبَيَاضُ الصُّبْحِ مَا إِنْ يُنْتَظَرْ
لا أَنِيسٌ يَسْمَعُ الشَّكْوَى وَلا
خَبَرٌ يَأْتِي وَلا طَيْفٌ يَمُرْ
بَيْنَ حِيطَانٍ وَبَابٍ مُوصَدٍ
كُلَّمَا حَرَّكَهُ السَّجَّانُ صَرْ
يَتَمَشَّى دُونَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا
لَحِقَتْهُ نَبْأَةٌ مِنِّي اسْتَقَرْ
كُلَّمَا دُرْتُ لأَقْضِي حَاجَةً
قَالَتِ الظُّلْمَةُ مَهْلاً لا تَدُرْ
أَتَقَرَّى الشَّيءَ أَبْغِيهِ فَلا
أَجِدُ الشَّيءَ وَلا نَفْسِي تَقَرْ
ظُلْمَةٌ مَا إِنْ بِهَا مِنْ كَوْكَبٍ
غَيرُ أَنْفَاسٍ تَرامَى بِالشَّرَرْ
فَاصْبِرِي يَا نَفْسُ حَتَّى تَظْفَرِي
إِنَّ حُسْنَ الصَّبْر مِفْتَاحُ الظَّفَرْ
هِيَ أَنْفَاسٌ تقَضَّى وَالْفَتَى
حَيْثُمَا كَانَ أَسِيرٌ لِلْقَدَرْ

ألا يا حمام اللوى والعقيق
إلى كم من النوح ما تستفيق
أظنك مثلي جفاك الصديق
فبالله غني بصوت شجي
سليمى رجائي الذي ارتجى
سلام على أهل تلك الخيام
فهم سؤل سؤلي وأقصى المرام
بحق الهوى يا نسيم الحزام
على رسم دارهم عرج
وحي لنا ربة الهودج
ولما أتت نفحات العراق
تخبرني عنهم بالتلاق
فناديت من لاعج الإشتياق
أيا نوق طاب السرى فادلجي
بلغت رجائي الذي أرتجي
حلفت بمن حج ثم اعتمر
وطاف وفاز بلثم الحجر
ومن كان بالبيت يتلو السور
لانت رجائي الذي أرتجي
وبغية قلبي الكئيب الشجي

سباني غزال أطار الرقاد
فأهلا بسبي الغزال الربيب
تفرد بالحسن دون الحسان
فأسكنه الحب حب القلوب
وتاه بطرف يسيل الدماء
ترى فيه حمرة سيف خضيب
اذا ما بدا طالعا وجهه
طلوع الهلال برغم الرقيب
فأنجم بهجتنا في الطلوع
وأنجم وحشتنا في الغروب

سَبَانِيْ غَزَالٌ أَطَارَ الرُّقَادَ | الميكالي

لقد قدح الشيب في جانبي
وأثر ما ليس بالواجب
أتاني عند تولى الشباب
فلقبت بالأشمط الشائب
فلما تظلمت من فعله
وضقت به قال لي صاحبي
لقد غض منك فهلا لبست
علىرغمه حلة الخاضب
فقلت الشباب على صدقه
يخون فما الظن بالكاذب

لَقَدْ قَدَحَ الشَّيْبُ فِيْ جَانِبِيْ  |  ظافر الحداد

هَل ناشِدٌ يَنشُدُ لي
ذاكَ الغَزالَ الأَغيَدا
ما ضَلَّ عَنّي إِنَّما
ضَلَّ بِقَلبي كَمَدا
رَهَنتُهُ قَلبي وَمَن
يَرهَنُ قَلباً أَبَدا
يا مُنجِزاً وَعيدَهُ
وَما طِلاً ما وَعَدا
أَراكَ مِنّي أَقرَباً
وَإِن غَدَوتَ أَبعَدا

وَالطَرفُ لا القَلبُ بَدا

قُم فَاِجلُ بِنتَ الكَرمَةِ الخَضراءِ
في الكَأسِ كَالياقوتَةِ الحَمراءِ
يا لائِمي في شُربِها أَغرَيتَني
بِاللَومِ فيها غايَةَ الإِغراءِ
يا حَبَّذا هِيَ في الخَريفِ وَغَيرِهِ
في سائِرِ الأَوقاتِ وَالآناءِ
مِن كَفّ أَسمَرَ بابِلِيٍّ قَدُّهُ
يَهتَزُّ مِثلَ الصَعدَةِ السَمراءِ
وَالكَأسُ قَد نَثَرَت عَلى وَجناتِهِ
وَرَقَ الشَقائِقِ فِتنَةً لِلرائي
عَيناهُ نَرجِسَتانِ لَكِن وَردَتا
خَدَّيهِ ضُمِّنَتا دَمَ الأَحشاءِ
ما العَيشُ إِلا في المدامِ وَشُربِها
لَكِن مَعَ الظُرَفاءِ وَالعُقَلاءِ

قُم فَاجلُ بِنتَ الكَرمَةِ الخَضراءِ | فتيان الشاغوري

دَوامُ الهَوى في ضَمانِ الشَبابِ
وَما الحُبُّ إِلّا زَمانُ التَصابي
أَحينَ فَشا الشَيبُ في شَعرِهِ
وَكَتَّمَ أَوضاحَهُ بِالخِضابِ
تَروعينَ أَوقاتَهُ بِالصُدودِ
وَتَرمينَ أَيّامَهُ بِالسِبابِ
تَخَطّى المَشيبُ إِلى رَأسِهِ
وَقَد كانَ أَعلى قِبابِ الشَبابِ
كَذاكَ الرِياحُ إِذا اِستَلأَمَت
تَقَصَّفَ أَعلى الغُصونِ الرِطابِ

دَوامُ الهَوى فِي ضَمَانِ الشَّبابِ | الشريف الرضي

فِداؤُكَ نَفسِيَ يا مَن لَهُ
مِنَ القَلبِ رَبعٌ مَنيعُ الجَنابِ
فَلَولاكَ ما عاقَ قَلبي الهَوى
وَعَزَّ عَلى كُلِّ شَوقٍ طِلابي
إِذا ما صَدَدتَ دَعاني الهَوى
فَمِلتُ إِلى خُدُعاتِ العِتابِ
فَيا جُنَّتي إِن رَماني الزَمانُ
وَيا صاحِبي إِن جَفاني صِحابي
وَمُلتَثِمٍ قالَ لي لَثمُهُ
عَذابُ الهَوى في الثَنايا العِذابِ
نُعاقِرُ بِالضَمِّ كَأسَ العِناقِ
وَنَسفِكُ بِاللَثمِ خَمرَ الرُضابِ
عِناقٌ كَما اِرتَجَّ ماءُ الغَديرِ
وَلَثمٌ كَما اِستَنَّ وَلغُ الذِئابِ
غَدَونا عَلى صَهَواتِ الخُطوبِ
جَوادَي رِهانٍ وَسَيفي قِرابِ
صَقيلَينِ تَستَلُّنا النائِباتُ
فَتُثلَمُ فيهِنَّ وَالدَهرُ نابِ
وَغُصنَينِ يَلعَبُ فينا النَسيمُ
وَتَنطِفُ عَنّا نِطافُ الرَبابِ
وَنَجمَينِ يَقصُرُ عَن نَيلِنا
مِنَ الطالِعاتِ الذُرى وَالرَوابي

فِدَاؤُكَ نَفْسِي | الشريف الرضي

رأيتُ الهلالَ ووجهَ الحبيب
فكانا هلالَينِ عند النَّظرْ
فلم أدرِ من حيرتي فيهما
هلالَ الدجى مِن هلال البشرْ
ولولا التورُّدُ في الوجنتين
وما راعني من سواد الشَّعَرْ
لكُنتُ أظن الهلالَ الحبيبَ
وكنتُ أظن الحبيب القمرْ

رَأَيْتُ الْهِلَالَ وَوَجْهَ الْحَبِيبِ | الخبز أرزي

دهرٌ يُشَيِّعُ سَبْتَه أحَدُهْ
متتابعٌ ما ينقضي أمَدُهْ
والحالُ من سعدٍ يساعدنا
طوراً ونحْسٍ مُعْقَبٍ نكدُهْ
يومٌ يبكِّينا وآونةً
يومٌ يبكِّينا عليه غَدُهْ
نبكي على زمن ومنْ زمنٍ
فبكاؤنا موصولةٌ مُدَدُهْ
ونرى مكارِهَنا مخلَّدةً
والعمرُ يذهب فانياً عَدَدُهْ
أفلا سبيل إلى تَبَحْبُحِنا
في سرمدٍ لا ينقضي أبَدُهْ
سَكْرى شبابٍ لا يعاقبه
هرمٌ وعيشٌ دائم رغَدُهْ
لا خير في عيشٍ تَخَوَّنُنا
أوقاتُهُ وتَغولنا مُدَدُهْ
ن أقرض الأوقاتَ أتلفَها
وقضى جميعَ قُرُوضِها جسَدُهْ
حتى يُغَيَّبَ في مُطَمْطَمَةٍ
لا أهلُه فيها ولا ولَدُهْ

دَهْرٌ يُشَيِّعُ سَبْتَهُ أَحَدُهْ | ابن الرومي

أمسي يعذبني ويضنيني
شوقٌ طغى طغيان مجنون
أين الشفاء ولم يعد بيدي
إلا أضاليل تُداويني
أبغي الهدوء ولا هدوء وفي
صدري عبابٌ غير مأمون
يهتاج أن لَجَّ الحنين به
ويئن فيه أنينَ مطعون
ويظل يضرب في أضالعه
وكأنها قضبان مسجون
ويحَ الحنين وما يجرعني
من مُرِّه ويبيت يسقيني
ربيته طفلاً بذلت له
ما شاء من خفضٍ ومن لينِ
فاليوم لمّا اشتدّ ساعده
وربا كنوار البساتينِ
لَم يرض غير شبيبتي ودمي
زاداً يعيش به ويفنيني
كم ليلةٍ ليلاء لازمني
لا يرتضي خلاً له دوني
ألفي له همساً يخاطبني
وأرى له ظلاً يماشيني
متنفساً لهباً يهبُّ على
وجهي كأنفاس البراكينِ
ويضمنا الليل العظيم وما
كالليل مأوى للمساكينِ

أَمَسِيْ يُعَذِّبُنِي وَيُضْنِيْنِيْ | ابراهيم ناجي

يا سائِرينَ أَوائِلَ الرَّكبِ
رِفقاً عَلَيَّ فَما مَعي قَلبي
أَيُقيم قَلبي في حَشايَ وَقَد
عَبَثَت بِحَبَّتِهِ يَدُ الحُبِّ
البَينُ عَذَّبَني فَأَشرَقَني
يَومَ النَوى بِالبارِدِ العَذبِ
