"50 Shades", despite the name, has nothing to do with the book. Often I get inspired by titles that match a certain feeling. I've never read the book. The song is about the end of young love, so painful it feels as if the lover and your own heart are killing you.
"Cowboy Song" is about a the changes that come with time. It's a conversation with a lover who feels like giving up. It's about being away, being a friend and revelations that span maturity and distance.

Rai is a Detroit bred songwriter. She started in 2001 writing acoustic pop tunes and has explored a full range of styles within her career. In 2015 her songs have matured to a variety in which she calls, Detroit Outlaw, mostly on account of her always feeling like a misfit.
