Invitation: Opening
For this dance, the invitation is to drop into the energy of Spring and what that means for you and your body. Maybe this is still a time of slowness, gentleness, or even an opening, an awakening, a stretching--gently pushing, still close to the ground--smelling the warming earth, roots drinking in nutrients and water. Maybe it is a time of feeling the first shoots of energy and aliveness and possibility. Maybe you are fully ready to pulse, arch, and bloom into creation. Whatever you are feeling, whatever your body needs, come dance the promise of opening and newness in the air.

For this dance, the phrases Rising Dawn; Inner Light; Inner Gold; and the Rise of Love have been weaving into and informing this magical mix. Could we be on the precipice of a rising dawn in our world? What does it mean to connect to and shine your inner light, your inner gold? How is Love moving in us lately?

Mythologist and storyteller, Michael Meade, shares that finding and revealing our natural inheritance, this inner gold, is the adventure we undertake our entire life. It is about finally getting in touch with the Soul medicine you have been carrying all your life and then releasing it into the world. I invite you to connect to the rising and swelling of your journey throughout this dance, allowing you to Shine inwards and outwards in sweet, funky ways.

Experience another sweet exploration of how this practice drops us into so many places--our bodies, this land, this planet, the myriad interconnections with our Brothers and Sisters, our beyond Human beings--places that are sometimes blissfully free of busy-ness and chatter. The sweetest place to drop into these days is our present, curious, compassionate, and groovy Heart Space.

The Heart can contain and transform it ALL – the bumps, the grinds, the dips, the jumps, and the smooth rides in stillness. It is INDEED a very groovy place to dance from.

I was inspired to create this mix from some of my deeply favorite soul music — music that comes from the depths of people and beings in harmonious relationship with our planet, the stars, their landscapes, the natural world, the cycles, birth and death. Many of the voices and sounds tonight are the voices and sounds of Northern lands: Siberia, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, the indigenous Inuit, Sami… Some of these people happen to be the ancestors in my bones. 
As I made this mix, I also thought about the beings, the ancestors who survived the great Ice Age, the ones who persevered through a cataclysmic change. I think about the migrations, the journeys, the hardships that went with survival. In me, I feel their marks of courage, intimate mystery, power, and profound magic. These are people who are helping inspire hope, beauty, a promise for adventure in me in a time that feels fraught with uncertainty and upheaval.

Expand your inner and outer senses. What do you hear? What do you see? What do you feel? What touches you? What ancient memories stir?

This wave drew inspiration from one of my favorite Neil Finn / Crowded House songs. Allow this movement medicine to embrace our life’s ever-changing nature and impermanence. With this dance, tend to the myriad of emotions that visit our bodies and experiences throughout just one day: from joy to sorrow, hope to despair. Maybe we will become curious about any shifts in our bodies, minds, and spirits as we attune to the changes in rhythm, within and without. Perhaps we are becoming the change we want to see in the world. Remember that this always available to you.

What does it mean to rise?

The dictionary shares that “to rise” could mean any of the following:

: to assume an upright position especially from lying, kneeling, or sitting
: to get up from sleep or from one's bed
: to return from death
: rise in rebellion
: to respond warmly: applaud
: to appear above the horizon
: to move upward: ascend
: to increase in height, size, volume, or pitch
: to extend above other objects
: to become heartened or elated
: to increase in fervor or intensity
: to increase in quantity or number
: to take place: happen
: to come into being: originate
: to follow as a consequence: result
: to exert oneself to meet a challenge
 
As I explored what it means "to rise" for me, I found myself first caught in the sensation of lifting up, stretching outwards, expanding, coming forth. Then there was the secondary realization that "to rise" one needs a place "to rise" from. Is this place where I physically am on the Earth? Is this place from within---in my Heart, my Soul, my Voice? Where am I rising from? What am I rising towards?

For this wave, we will notice how the energy “to rise” shows up for us and for the community.

We celebrate this period because it is the time when the most light from our Sun is flooding our location--where the warmth and heat means it is time for us to come fully to life, loving and living our lives to the fullest. It was a time our ancestors were grateful for the bounty of life and all its pleasures.
