A lullaby reimagined as a drunken sea shanty.

The original song by Ángel L. Martínez ( https://soundcloud.com/user-928003931-57021144/al-mar-mi-piratitaalm )was played through various metal buckets and recorded with contact mics. The recordings were arranged out of sync to create a messy choir of voices. Then I recorded some bursts of prepared guitar played with a violin bow, just to add to the woozy drunk-at-sea feeling.

This work for string orchestra was written for the International Saito Conducting Workshop in Saskatoon, Canada.  While intended as a conducting exercise, the piece is also a contemplative meditation that draws many different feelings and interpretations.
