Although there are now more and more people (both musicians and healers) playing singing bowls, most of them play solo. It's rare to find a Tibetan singing bowl BAND. So, what's the difference? Well, the overall soundscape is much fuller and deeper, more multi-layered and much more dynamic.

This recording, of the Los Angeles based Tibetan singing bowl ensemble One Hand Clapping, was done by Joe Sidore and Dennis Ghiatis of Warner Bros. Records. It was the worlds first CD release of a direct-to-digital recording of Tibetan singing bowls. Enjoy!

One Hand Clapping: Tibetan Bells with Environmental Sounds - part 1

 Rain Gray is the founder of ONE HAND CLAPPING.	

This Los Angeles-based Tibetan Singing Bowl ensemble has mastered this mystical and ancient art, performing on a rare set of Tibetan singing bowls gathered in the Himalayas over the course of ten years. Two additional years were spent having special binaural microphones designed that could capture the full spectrum of the bells’ frequencies, and the sessions were mastered in DDD (direct to digital with no analog processing). With the seamless addition of gongs, chimes, and sounds of nature, ONE HAND CLAPPING leads the listener through a thunderclap, into the tranquility of Nirvana.

For thousands of years, the clear, vibratory, harmonic tones of Tibetan singing bells have been used to induce meditation and altered states of consciousness. Born of a Vedic system from ancient India (circa 560 BC), the bells permeate the body on a cellular level, balancing the brain’s alpha-theta waves and opening the chakras, inducing calm, centeredness and even a trance-like suspension of external distractions.

12 years in the making, ONE HAND CLAPPING’s debut album is a technical and artistic milestone in World and New Age music, and remains the definitive recording of this timeless, transformational sound.
