Lash Out was never finished, but I like the song a lot. It was going to be on an album called Burden, which I started after a break-up. I really just wanted to reflect on everything that had gotten me to that point. Then I touch on a theme I talk a lot about on an upcoming LP, that delves into the bitterness and resentment I have for certain aspects of society. 

The song samples "Well, Well, Well" by John Lennon, which is one of my favorite songs ever, and a sample I had sat on for literally years; I always hoped I'd have a chance to sample it. I did the bassline first, and then I heard a live version of Lennon's song, and that guitar at the beginning fit over it so well. Another sample is Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," which just added another dark, haunting element to the song.

And happy birthday, Doc. Your gift is, of course, a celebration of myself, lol.
