During the radio show INSIJAM, meaning “harmony” in Arabic, the essence of chances and encounters takes center stage –

Combining Musique Concrète with Lebanese folk music and instrumental pieces, the performance shifts between Experimental, Avant-garde, Field Recordings, Spoken Words, and improv-jazz –

INSIJAM represents my perspective on to the beauty of diverse musical encounters through records, tapes, digital, and voice -

In sound art, I mainly work around amplifying chairs and revisiting the notion of DJ-ing.

I write sound pieces mainly by manipulating recordings of Lebanese/Levantine instruments like the Oud, Nay, Qanun, and Tabla. In addition to field recordings, spoken texts primarily in my native tongue, and acoustic and electro-acoustic sources. Ableton Live serves as my main platform for audio manipulation and creation. 

My sound projects frequently resonate with themes of memory, time, migration, and forced existential exile.

This piece is a reflection of my transformative journey, which attempts to address themes of migration, forced exile, existential experience(s), memory, and time, through my reversed interpretation of Alvin Lucier's - I Am Sitting in a Room. 

I arrived to Berlin from Beirut on August 22nd, 2021, hence the duration of the piece, I felt as though I was merely a shell, devoid of life, unable to make sense of place and time. This piece mirrors my own journey of rebirth and self-discovery. I moved from a state of disarray and despair to a space of clarity and self-expression.

Ruuh 'ala tariq tani includes manipulating recordings of traditional Lebanese/Levantine instruments such as the Oud, Nay, Qanun, and Tabla, field recordings from Beirut and Berlin, acoustic and electro-acoustic sound sources, and most importantly my recovered voice.

Espectra Negra explores the philosophical, psychological, visual and aural
territory suggested by the term Industrial. Special interests included war,
networks of power & domination, hegemonic Telos, rebellious movements,
cyberpunk, queer theory and feminism. She works with analogue and digital
machinery & self written text with an intersectional approach.
Espectra Negra has played in different Clubs and venues including the
legendary Berghain via CTM Festival. Her music styles are diverse moving
from avantgarde music to dark ambient, science fiction, industrial, noise,
techno and IBM. Her strong talent in music production and solid social
message under the critical eye against Capitalist Realism have made her a
very authentic sonic project within the Berlin Music Scene working both as a
musician and as a DJ. Her new album is coming up next year by the German
label Hands.

Back to back, the wind rushes in and sows residue."

Hélo Moondi, a French sound artist based in Berlin, operates at the convergence of electronic music, sound art and radio. Whether in the role of producer or DJ, her goal is to establish links between electroacoustic, electronic music, analog and digital techniques.

In radio broadcasts and at bass music events, she endeavors to interlace connections across a spectrum of sonic landscapes, reflecting urban environments and spanning from experimental soundscapes to industrial electronic music. Centered around synthesizer and sound design, her DJ sets explore storytelling modes that navigate the boundary between reality and imagination.

Through her radio program „Shuffle in Zion,“ she explores experimental breakbeat and collage, crafting introspective sonic voyages inspired by musique concrète, noise, dub or future bass.

Bin Cir is a French artist-architect researcher-practitioner based in Berlin. Her transdisciplinary experience lies at the crossroads of the creation and ethnography of spatial practices, together with video and sound art.

Heavy-hitting, intimate, contrasted, spaced out, reduced, dusky, pulsating, bold, rooted, piercing, distorted, broken, unearthed, peculiar, centered… these are all attitudes she likes to embody, playing with oscillations.

The American Motion Picture - Film Ameriki Tawil by Ziad Rahbani is “a portrait of Lebanon’s post-war society” words by Hashem Osseiran

“When considering these aspects of the play’s characters, it becomes clear that the psychiatric hospital is a metaphor for a pathological post-war Lebanon. As for the patients, they are an allegory for society at large — one that is plagued with many afflictions.

An enduring theme that runs throughout the production is that the patients never recover despite continuous modifications and adjustments to their treatment. When their condition threatens to affect the hospital’s medical staff members, who begin to display the symptoms they are supposed to cure, the head physician opts for electroshock therapy. Even that does not work.

The yell released by Rashid at the end of the play is a final statement concerning the futility of treat­ment. It echoes the notion that nothing has truly improved. Thir­ty-six years later, Rashid’s scream has maintained its symbolic force as an abrupt wake-up call for any­one who thought that the residents of Lebanon were making progress.” 

Houdou Nisbi - Ziad Rahbani - Words by Ernesto Chahoud

"Houdou" Nisbi" which means "Relatively Calm" a phrase that was commonly used in daily news reports in Lebanon's civil war to describe the atmosphere during temporary cease fires between different warring mili-tias. The composition of the title track itself is a cornerstone piece in expressing Ziad's idea of "Oriental Jazz" and how it is possible to play Oriental music using Western instruments alone. "Houdou" Nisbi" is an instrumental based on a specific Oriental rhythm called "Wehda Kabira" that is usually played on daf in tarab music but here it is played on piano. This is a pure example of how Ziad fused Oriental with Occidental music in the most elegant, natural and ultra-modern way. It's a timeless piece of music that stands the test of time.

In my opinion, "Houdou Nisbi" reflects the fully-fledged and unmatchable musical journey that Ziad Rahbani began in 1985. He completely recreated the heritage of classical Oriental music that he was born into, as the son of Assi Rahbani and Fairuz, two of the influential figures in Arabic music, whole also drawing on modern Western influences such as Charlie Parker, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joe Sample through his own personal experience and perception.

Featuring the finest and arguably the first jazz musicians to come out of Leba-non, "Houdou Nisbi" captures the spirit of the eighties era in a very eloquent style and subtle way. The album explores various music corners from bossa-nova to jazz-dance, boogie to fusion. The lyrics, also written by Ziad Rahbani, picture the details of failed relationships in the poetic yet witty and sarcastic style that Ziad is famed for. Here you have one of Lebanon's best kept secret music treasures, released for the very first time on vinyl.

Alan Harman is a 25 year-old Montreal based electronic artist known for his entirely analog recording process and dedication to a bleak, dark sound. He grew up in a small town known solely for having high levels of radiation in the soil. All through his youth he longed for meaning, unable to find it in religion, he discovered synthesizers and Coldwave music.
