In 2015, the Unité urbaine de Paris had 10,706,072 inhabitants, corresponding to a population density of 3,763 inhabitants per square kilometer, making Paris a megacities. Paris is the political, economic, and cultural center of centrally organized France and, with four airports and six railway terminals, its largest transportation hub. Parts of the Seine river are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is the seat of UNESCO, as well as the OECD and the ICC. Landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Louvre make the city a popular tourist destination. With around 16 million foreign tourists per year, the city is one of the most visited cities in the world.

Present-day Paris developed from the Celtic settlement of "Lutetia" on the Île de la Cité in the 3rd century BC. Later, the Romans built a city on the Seine, which initially became the principal residence of the Frankish Empire in the 6th century. Paris experienced a golden age of art and culture in the 16th century under Francis I. During absolutism, particularly under Louis XIV in the 17th century, the city was enriched with numerous Baroque buildings and boulevards, making it an exemplary model of Baroque urban planning. Although the royal residence was relocated to Versailles in 1682, Paris remained the country's political and economic center due to its importance. Funafuti is an atoll of the island nation of Tuvalu and, as a municipality, its official capital. All government institutions are located in the village of Vaiaku, which is considered the unofficial capital, on the island of Fongafale.

Funafuti is also the only municipality and one of eight districts (Falekaupule) of the independent state of Tuvalu.

The atoll's lagoon measures approximately 18 km × 14 km. The narrow strip of land between the lagoon and the open sea is about 200 meters wide at most. The land area is 2.79 square kilometers, and the total area, including the lagoon, is 277 square kilometers.

Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation. With approximately 13 million inhabitants (as of 2022), it is the largest city and, with 19.1 million inhabitants (2023), the largest agglomeration in Europe.

The city is also one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations and one of the most visited cities in Europe. Moscow has the second-highest number of billionaires of any city (tied with Hong Kong) and is considered the Russian city with the highest standard of living. The Moscow International Business Center is one of the largest financial centers in the world and boasts most of Europe's tallest skyscrapers. Castries is the capital of the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia and has approximately 3,661 inhabitants within the city limits and 16,134 in the suburbs. It is located in the Castries Quarter on the northwest coast of the island and is about 65 kilometers from Fort-de-France, the capital of the island of Martinique.

Castries was built by the French between 1765 and 1768 and named after Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix de Castries, Marquis of Castries, in 1785. In 1794, Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, renamed the town "Charlottesville" after his mother, Queen Charlotte of England. In April 1796, the town was bombarded with cannons and completely destroyed by the resulting fire. Large parts of the town also burned down in 1813, 1927, and 1948.

The oldest inscriptions mentioning Sana'a as a city date back to the first century. It is assumed that the site was settled even earlier.
