Castries is the capital of the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia and has approximately 3,661 inhabitants within the city limits and 16,134 in the suburbs. Castries was built by the French between 1765 and 1768 and named after Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix de Castries, Marquis of Castries, in 1785.
