Until around 1950, Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world. Traditionally, agriculture, livestock farming and raw material extraction played a major role in the economy, although today the service sector accounts for the largest share of GDP at around 60%.

Politically and culturally, the country was strongly influenced by immigration from Europe, especially Italy and Spain, until the mid-20th century. The most important stages since then have been Peronism (1946–1955; 1973–1976), several military dictatorships (particularly from 1976 to 1983), redemocratization (after 1983), and neoliberalism (1990s), up to the Argentine crisis (2001–2005) and the subsequent consolidation.

France is a democratic, intercontinental unitary state in Western Europe with overseas territories. Its territory is located on all continents except Asia.

Metropolitan France, i.e. the European part of the national territory, extends from the Mediterranean to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. Its mainland is called a hexagon because of its shape. France is the largest country in terms of area and the second largest country in terms of population (behind Germany) in the European Union. It comprises the third largest territory in Europe (after Russia and Ukraine). Emerging from the western part of the Frankish Empire, France expanded its cultural and military influence in Europe during the Middle Ages, mostly in rivalry with the Kingdom of England and the Holy Roman Empire, until France finally achieved a European leadership role in the 17th and 18th centuries held supremacy.

The political and cultural impact was significant: the court of Louis Development towards democracy interrupted by setbacks.

France twice built a colonial empire overseas. The first included, among other things: large parts of North America and was largely lost in the Seven Years' War in the mid-18th century; the second, centered in Africa, was the second largest in the world in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the 21st century, France and Germany are seen as the driving force of European integration.

The French Republic is declared in its constitution to be indivisible, secular, democratic and social. Its principle is: “Government of the people, by the people and for the people.” The United Nations Development Program ranks France among the countries with very high levels of human development. In terms of nominal gross domestic product, it is the seventh largest economy in the world. The standard of living, level of education and life expectancy are considered high. As the most visited country in the world, France receives around 83 million foreign tourists per year.

The French armed forces are among the seven strongest in the world and were the third strongest in NATO in 2023, and the fifth strongest in 2024 after the USA, Great Britain, Turkey and Italy. The country is the only nuclear power in the European Union, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and in 2010 had the third highest number of nuclear weapons in the world. It is a founding member of the European Union and the United Nations, a member of the Francophonie, the G7, the G20 , NATO, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Latin Union.
