After Mom passed away, Dad opened up a lot.  Just days after she passed, he told me their story.  He met Mom, and they dated.  He didn't know any Spanish, but learned a lot just to be able to talk to her.  Sadly, she moved and he lost track of her.  Fast forward three or so years later, he took a chance and mailed her at an address someone had given him. 
 She wrote back, and it went back and forth for a few months.  He took a week of vacation from work and went down to visit Mom in McAllen, TX (where they took all of us kids every year for vacation for the next 2 1/2 decades).  After spending the week together, he told her he had to go back to work.  He asked her to come with him, she agreed as long as he married her before they left.  Long story short, his week of vacation ended with a 40+ year marriage.  Not a bad way to end your vacation.
