Holmes began djing in Belfast from the age of 15. His first hit was the song "DeNiro", with Ashley Beedle, in 1992. In the early to mid 1990s he ran two club nights in the Belfast Art College known as Sugar Sweet and Shake Yer Brain. Orbital wrote the track "Belfast", released on their debut album Orbital, after playing at Sugar Sweet.

Holmes released This Film's Crap Let's Slash the Seats, in July 1995.[1] At the time he described the album as being inspired by movies and movie soundtracks, a recurring theme throughout Holmes' work (see Discography). The opening track, "No Man's Land", featured on the soundtrack to the film, Pi. In the same year, he also provided the ambient links between the songs on the album Infernal Love by Therapy?. In 1997, Holmes released Let's Get Killed.[1] Many of the tracks featured Brazilians dancing in the streets of New York, recorded by Holmes using a minidisc. The album's first single, "My Mate Paul," was Holmes' first commercial success.

His 1997 Essential Mix, a mixture of northern soul, psychedelic funk and hip hop was voted mix of the year by Muzik magazine

In 1998, Danny DeVito commissioned him to do the score for Steven Soderbergh's film Out of Sight. He scored a second film for Soderbergh in 2001, including some songs from Let's Get Killed and Bow Down to the Exit Sign on the Ocean's Eleven remake.

After releasing a remix album, Come Get It I Got It, in 2002, Holmes released David Holmes Presents The Free Association in 2003. This was a departure for the artist as all his previous work had been solo. The Free Association featured four other bandmates who toured with Holmes after the album was launched.

As a remixer he has reworked tracks by artists such as U2, Doves, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Page and Plant, Saint Etienne and Ice Cube.

Before beginning his musical career, Holmes worked as a hairdresser and chef. He also briefly owned and ran a café called Mogwai near the Queen's University of Belfast and, since 2009, has run an intimate club in South Belfast called The Menagerie.

In 2008, he composed the music for the "New iPhone" ad campaign. An album, The Holy Pictures, was released on 8 September 2008,[2] from which the track "Holy Pictures" was selected for the soundtrack of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

In April 2009, he topped the Irish Times' "50 Best Irish Acts Right Now".[3]

His latest release was a best of compilation, The Dogs Are Parading, released on 26 April 2010.

Best known for her 2008 UK Top 20 hit Heartbeat (also sampled on Rita Ora’s R.I.P) and winner of Best African Act at the MOBO Awards in 2009, Nigerian born singer Nneka releases her latest album, My Fairy Tales 
which focuses on the artist’s roots and Afrobeat side.
Known for speaking her mind in her music, My Fairy Tales tackles subjects as varied as the politics of her Nigerian birthplace through to her own personal voyage of discovery. 
Mixed by James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso (known for his mix of Method Man ft.  Mary J Blige’s ‘You’re All I Need’ and his work with Damian & Stephen Marley), the album’s opening cut, Believe System speaks of the need to connect with your roots. 
On this track Nneka’s highly expressive vocals firmly place her amongst global songstresses like Neneh Cherry, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and the like. 
Second track Babylon tells of regional plight in West Africa over a Fela-type Afrobeat/highlife groove. Next is the first single from the album My Love with its lilting reggae beat and personable lyrics about positive love. 
Other key tracks on the album include Local Champion, about her hometown of Warri, Nigeria, the optimistic and spiritual Surprise plus the ska influenced Pray For You, in which Nneka speaks of the healing powers of forgiveness.
Bringing the album to a close is Book of Job, with its charismatic chorus vocal and finally In Me - two excellent reggae cuts which clearly exemplify this global artist’s talent pedigree.
My Fairy Tales sees Nneka with a new confidence and maturity in both her song writing and performance. All this from a career that has seen her collaborate with the likes of Massive Attack, Lenny Kravitz, Tricky, Ziggy Marley, and more. 
Nneka toured the States in 2010 alongside Nas and Damian Marley (as Distant Relatives) after an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier that year and has also had singles “Shining Star” and “Heartbeat” remixed by 
Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Chase & Status respectively.
Nneka will be promoting My Fairy Tales throughout the year with a European tour in spring that sees one UK date at the Village Underground, East London on April 7th - a date for the dairy if ever there was one.

On March 26th, 2014 the Brooklyn Attractors, including Victor Axelrod, Andy Bassford, Larry McDonald, Brett Tubin, Dan Jeselsohn, Eddie Ocampo, Buford O’Sullivan, Anant Pradhan, Luke Penella, and Rich Graiko came together to play a show at the Shapeshifter Lab in Brooklyn, NY. Thankfully the audio was captured by the crew at Shapeshifter Lab and subsequently made available for release. This became “LIVE IN BROOKLYN”, the ATTRACTOR’S sophomore album and a rare hifi glance into the modern underground NYC Jamaican Jazz scene. The following is the unedited audio from that evening.

Lee Scratch Perry & ERM - In The Bathroom

Production heavyweight Rhys Adams returns with his second LP under the ‘YesKing’ moniker and his debut for the BBE label. Produced entirely by Adams, ‘Re-Record Not Fade Away’, marks a coming of age for the seasoned studio head and a sonic departure from the outfit’s 2008 debut ‘Rock This World’ (co-produced by Mark Rae of Rae & Christian fame). 

Borrowing it’s name from the strap line appearing in Scotch Video Tape’s 1980s TV adverts, ‘Re-Record Not Fade Away’ is both a metaphorical reference to the longevity of music produced with passion and a literal reference to Adams’ studio techniques - in particular his preference for recording live to a 1960s 1/4 inch ferrograph tape machine, a process which Adams describes as ‘integral’ to the album’s sound providing a ‘unique and authentic’ feel with a firm nod to the Dub and Reggae traditions which permeate the album. 

Featured artists provide a wealth of variety to the album’s underlying themes: Guitarist for The Soothsayers and Jerry Dammers’ Spatial aka Orchestra, Patrick Hatchett plays on much of the album also co-writing several tracks becoming, in Adams’ words, ‘central to the Yesking sound’. Togo born singer Kodjovi Kush adds afrobeat flavour to ‘One More Time’ with a vocal performance which displays his musical journey to East London via Ghana, Israel and ‘90s Central London cultural hotspot, the Africa Centre. ‘Rock This World’ collaborators make a welcome return in the form of Kenny Knotts, a UK dancehall vocalist with a string of top ten hits to his name and rapper Mystro, a seasoned veteran with a list of collaborations under his belt that reads like a who’s who of the UK scene. Representing the new generation of UK dancehall artists is Toddla T and Sticky collaborator Lady Chann providing unique sound system swag on ‘Secret King’. Decca signing Annie Bea adds a sweet summer feel to ‘Just Like Me’ and new voices Mel Uye Parker, Rioghnach Connolly offer accomplished vocals to lead single ‘Hardground’, a track which Adams is happy to describe as one of his proudest productions.  All in all a rich mix thrown in to the sonic melting pot via that all important tape machine mixdown!
