After his critically acclaimed debut album, Djrum and 2nd Drop are proud to present a limited edition 10” vinyl release of two amazing reworks. 

West London’s Onoe Caponoe is one of the most exciting MCs in the UK right now, having pinged up on 2nd Drop’s radar after dropping two blazing albums on Audio Doughnuts in the past couple of years. Djrum has been featuring Onoe’s Milkyway 1311 in his sets on a regular basis, and this naturally led to him taking the tools to it and giving it a tweak in wonderful Djrum style. It’s hip hop, but not as we know it, as Djrum installs a drum pattern that sounds like a cascading waterfall and his trademark use of strings which underpin Onoe’s funkadelic vocals perfectly. This is a great introduction to some forthcoming collaborations between these two on 2nd Drop. Watch this space!

Royce Wood Junior, known for his work with Jamie Woon and Stac among others, is an uber talented multi-instrumentalist and all round nice guy. The original has yet to be released (looking like 2014), so this version will only be available on vinyl for the foreseeable future. Djrum has transformed the track into a brooding masterpiece which emphasises the heartfelt lament of Royce’s vocal to maximum effect. A classic in the making.

A quick word from Ronin Saedi himself:

"So, My name is Andin and I'm 29 years old, based in Vienna and been part of the Basstrace crew basically since the beginning. I first started making beats around 10-12 years ago but I had phases where I didn't make as much music as I made visual art, or where I was pursuing other hobbies at the same time. But music was always a big constant in my life.

I released 2 times already, both on Vienna Underground Traxx, small Viennese indie label. First time was a single track on a compilation ("Willkommen in der Kernzone 100") and after that a 4 Track EP ("Cosmic Conscious")".

Big shout to Frozen Plates crew for consistently scooping up talent, very much looking forward to hearing more from this producer, clearly he's got some skills!

“Baby T is an alias that I am breathing new life into. Originally, my name was Baby Traits (as in baby "features" — I was 18 when I started touring in North America) and as I began to get more DJ bookings within the jungle community, I abbreviated Baby to B so that the name was more androgynous, to prevent the unnecessary attention and bad-mouthing I got whenever people found out I was female.

In a sense, it's a reclamation of my original alias—I played faster back then: hardcore, drum & bass and jungle—and that's where I’m going back to with Baby T, but this time I'm not 18, and I have zero fucks to give.

I've always been a shapeshifter as B.Traits but sometimes eclecticism can be confusing. I feel I need another outlet to create music that has no specific expectations. I want to get back to my jungle roots properly.”

The Portra EP contains 3 versions of the title track by Baby T - Hybrid, Ambient, and Jungle, spreading across tempo’s (and no tempo) to showcase styles Baby T will touch on. It’s a confident debut - a sonic summary of the Baby T path. To compliment these versions, Homemade Weapons and Ancestral Voices have contributed remixes that reinterpret Portra through their visionary processes, with impeccable results from both artists.
