Do You (Kasra Remix)

Historically, society has always needed one form of tonic or another. Tonics invigorate, restore, refresh and stimulate; much like this group of rising stars with their eyes on the prize. We’ve trawled some of the finest up & coming UK talent that the scene has to offer and hand-picked 6-tracks to kick start our brand new VA series of EPs in ‘Tonics: Batch 1’.

Kicking off proceedings and returning for her first release on the imprint since the ‘Summer Soul EP’ in 2018, we gladly welcome back London producer Dushi, with a jazzy number titled ‘Lost In The Waves’. We’re greeted with wonderfully wide, warm strings and an almost Middle Eastern soundscape in the intro, followed by an uplifting, orchestral-style drop - complete with progressive, jungle percussion. 

London native Lally is second up to the plate, with a sun drenched, rolling scorcher titled ‘All The Time’ - a palpable amen dream of tumbling sub, twinkling bells and lush, longing vocals. This track marks his first official release, and if this is anything to go off, we’ll be seeing a lot more of him! 

Dorset resident & new kid on the block Vektah undoubtedly delivers on the title with his track ‘Request’. The tune opens with luscious, swirling synths which fast descend into honks of incoming bass, jungle breaks and ragga vocals which will almost certainly have you shouting at your nearest DJ, demanding them to “run it”.

Makah’s ‘Crest’ rides in like a seasoned surfer, the intro rhythmically building tension with bubbling textures and washing synths amid swinging yet techy breaks, screeches and boundless bass. The second debut on the project, this accomplished first outing means this Cornwall-born composer is definitely one to watch for 2021.  

The third and final newcomer is Brighton boy Silloh and his debut ‘Strange Matter’. The track opens with cascading, shimmering chimes and a slight air of unease. The drop kicks like a mule, boasting roaring grunts of bass, high velocity drums; all of which are sure to evoke some downright evil expressions in the rave! 

Finally, Manchester’s own Motiv calls for last orders with the deceptively titled ‘Crave’ a deep, warm hug of a half time tune. Complete with wide, wobbling pads and clicking percussion wrapped in hypnotic vocals, you’ll no doubt long to hear this track, like some sort of uncontrollable urge.

So get your orders in for 6 doses of the finest effervescent d&b that money can buy, and raise a glass to the next batch of bubbling talent, pouring into all good stores on the 21st of May 2021.

Having already debuted on the Dispatch Recordings imprint, duo Genic are set to release their biggest project on the label yet. The likes of Xtrah, DJ Hype (with Genic having previously released on the seminal Playaz through their collaboration), Doc Scott, Noisia, Rene LaVice and Ant TC1 (Dispatch’s label head) have been spinning Genic’s records throughout their quick ascent, with their debut ‘Rough Nights’ album sure to gain the same support and notoriety.

Playing at mainstay clubs such as Le Bikini, alongside some of the most influential names in bass music, they’ve also become a favourite amongst drum & bass listeners and as a result news around their forthcoming album has whet fan’s appetites. Their forthcoming album features an array of influences, from Dnb, Techno, Classic and UK Hip Hop to Reggae, with their tenacity obvious from the LP’s beginning to end. Marked by a forthcoming sampler, which includes digital exclusive ‘Disposal’, as well as album track ‘Grow’, ‘Rough Nights’ is proving to be one of their most expansive musical exploits to date.

The lush bass tones of ‘Grow’ opens the album following its inclusion on its sampler, meanwhile the more robotic chimes of ‘Think’ continues the journey. Long-time Dispatch roster members Philth and Wreckless present themselves alongside Genic for ‘Radiation’ up next, as ‘The Cycle’ keeps the LP broodingly ominous. The breaks of ‘Bring it’ and title track ‘Rough Nights’ with its softer underbelly sit midway on the tracklist, whilst ‘Oreo’, ‘Sore Throat’ and ‘Lulling Over’ draws the curtains whilst exposing three more explosively subterranean selections.

It’s the next album to be dropped on Dispatch Recordings and it highlights their ability to give artists creative freedom as well as the platform they deserve. Genic are the next producers to receive the label’s seal-of-approval and the quality of their ‘Rough Nights’ album signposts why this is.

Following hot on the heels of 2018’s ‘Influence’ album, Dope Ammo invites some of his close friends to paint a fresh coat of bass on the first selection of remixes. These updates come from some big names too with the initial batch presented by Ed Solo, Benny Page, Kleu and none other than the man himself.

‘Babylon Falling’ featuring Taiwan MC was always full of summertime vibes and fresh for 2019, Ed Solo takes that feel good factor and ramps up the dial to 11. A perfect example of how to add trademark techniques without complicating the original direction.

Kleu brings forth a re-edit of ‘Old Times’ featuring the vocal talents of Martin Carr and this time around, a slab of sinister bass notes that totally mix the feel of the original into something completely different. It works and it’s certainly going to take you by surprise!

Original bad man Benny Page takes control of ‘Saturday’ in the only style and fashion you would expect from this veteran producer. Sticking with the theme of commercial but credible, this one is certainly aimed at both radio airplay and ram jammed underground dancefloors alike. Lighters at the ready..

Dope Ammo finishes off the first batch of the remixes with ‘Repent’. Whilst the original was stripped back to 120bpm, this one certainly takes it up a notch by going through the grand old time stretching box of tricks a few times. An impressive take on what was something a bit different from 2018 album. Infectious vocals and hard bassline lead. No worries inna dance here!
