Last October’s huge chunk of sunshine “Names In The Sky” was played from Egypt to Honolulu and included in Don Lett’s Tunes of 2024 on BBC6Music, proof that it's always summer somewhere!  So, it seemed only fair that for the next Secret Garden release, the northern hemisphere should get in on the summer action too. Introducing the second release from The Secret Garden - “Spirals” featuring the timeless, hypnotising vocals of Cordelia Olwen (one half of techno-soul duo Clone + Cord), riding a soundtrack made for deep blue skies and warm sunshine and the perfect accompaniment to the UK and Europe’s current heatwave!

This story begins last summer, at a festival deep in the Chiltern Hills, just after Alex had finished a rare and special live gig as The Secret Garden. Through a mutual friend, Alex was introduced to Cordelia - someone he had already met by chance earlier that day as tent neighbours! Both were enthusiastic to collaborate on a song together and in the post-gig buzz, they remained in contact sharing ideas early this year. The drop boxes flowed, the voice notes amounted, and quickly some special sounds came to life.

Recorded by Cordelia as a freestyle vocal one day by the sea in Ireland (the waves you hear on the vocal aren’t an overdub; they were captured in the take), the song begins with the line “Fibonacci spirals… in my mind” and slowly reveals its magic, pulling you in, one spiralling loop at a time. By the time the last chimes play, and the moment ends, you will want to keep the vibe going and play the song again from the start, as soon as possible!

To mark the 90th Ramrock Red release, here’s something a bit different. Over six years ago, Jo Wallace at Ramrock and Darren Morris at North Street teamed up with international hip hop artist, Taz to cut a storming, summer banger called ‘Wa La La Leng (Do My Thing). With Taz freestyling over an insanely ‘guerilla funk’ bed, Darren Morris goes all out JB on the keyboards, taking no prisoners. However, fate struck a harsh blow when Jo had her laptop stolen and the only existing premaster had been saved onto her drive…..or so she thought. Fast forward to early 2025 when Darren found a back up copy on an old studio hard drive. Without a minute to spare, he mastered the track (with a clean version for radio) and trust me, the funk will be with you. Old skool to its very core, ‘Wa La La Leng’ will be mashing it up worldwide….and those of a certain generation will clock the reference to the KTel ‘Superbad’ album sleeve on the EP artwork.

Co-writer of the ‘Eskimo’ rhythm with godfather of Grime, Wiley, Taz became the first UK rapper to be signed to Def Jam after being signed to Island Universal. Jamaican born Taz had an early introduction to the Jamaican music scene from hanging out in local studios at a young age with the likes of Terra Fabulous, Monster Shock and Saxon Soundsystem, his step father’s sound. At the tender age of 12, Taz uprooted and moved to London where music became an even bigger part of his life. His break came in 2004 when he hooked up with Grime artist Dizzee Rascal. Taz produced and co-wrote the stand out hit ‘Just A Rascal’ and supported Dizzee on his 2004 ‘Boy In Da Corner’ UK Tour. Further production and remix work included remixes of Ashanti’s ‘Rain On Me’ and ‘Rock Withchu’ as well as ‘Locked Up’ taken from Akon’s ‘Trouble’ LP earning him two platinum plaques and chart exposure on both sides of the Atlantic. Awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello awards for his part in putting UK Grime onto the global mainstream music map, Taz’s debut album ‘Analyse This’ featured the likes of Kardinal Offishall and Terri Walker and boasted UK Top 40 hit ‘Can’t Contain Me’. ‘Cowboy Film’ went on to become a UK Hip Hop classic featuring Kardinal Offishall and the remix featured fellow UK heavyweights Sway and Bigz which revolutionised urban video in the UK. Taz continued to write and produce with Dizzee and his track ‘Learn’ from the 2007 LP ‘Showtime’ gave Taz another plaque to add to his collection, this time a gold one. He then went on to tour with the likes of Kanye West and Sean Paul, he even got the opportunity to perform for Prince Charles at the Princes Trust concert alongside the likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. Other notable artists Taz has performed on tracks alongside include Styles P, Estelle and Arrow Benjamin and more. Acclaimed DJ’s such as Radio One’s Jo Whiley, Ras Kwame and Tim Westwood championed Taz from early with regular radio rotation for his releases over the years. He has also received notable press from the likes of The Guardian, Dazed and Confused and more. In 2008 Taz went on to form DMT which saw him enjoy global success with ‘Touch U’ and be signed to Universal Music International. Taz has enjoyed more chart success with a double number one on Traxsource with Mousse T which he co-wrote with Jo Wallace and U.S singer / songwriter Inaya Day on the massive 2018 disco banger ‘Rock Da Mic’ which released under Glitterbox.

Joseph Malik and Daniel Walls aka remix duo, ‘Oddball Creatives’, deliver a deluxe DJ package on the last ever single from Joseph on Ramrock Records. For this epic project, they brought in Edinburgh music legends, jazz trumpeter, Colin Steele and the Proclaimers keyboard player, Steven Christie for the new remixes of ‘Adult Contemporary’ taken from Joseph’s seminal 2023 LP, ‘Proxima Ebony’. 

Producer and keyboard legend, Steven Christie has a long history of songwriting with Joseph over three decades, so it seemed the right thing to do, with ‘Oddball Creative’ co-producer, Daniel Walls of Digital Liquid fame, to deliver this homage to 90s house and original disco breaks and beats. Joseph and Daniel were hugely inspired by Pépé Bradock, Moodymann and Peven Everett on the Oddball Creatives remix featuring Steven Christie. Steven has collaborated with Joseph on Ramrock releases ‘Til Sunday’ LP and ‘Justify Me’ EP and more recently on Steven’s ‘Must do Right’ LP on his label, San Siro Heights.

Joseph first began recording with trumpet player Colin Steele in the early 90s and through the 2000s on German record label, Compost Records and again on Ramrock Red Records from 2017 onwards. You can hear their remarkable collaboration on Linkwood’s ‘Miles Away’ track which has gone into House history. Colin Steele has been at the forefront of the Scottish jazz scene for the last 30 years, winning BBC Jazz CD of the Year for his second album, ‘The Journey Home’, amongst many other awards over the years. His current 2025 release is an interpretation of the iconic Glaswegian band, The Blue Nile’s songbook with the Colin Steele Jazz Quartet entitled ‘The Blue Nile Jazz Interpretations’. Jazzwize Magazine has quoted, “I'd be surprised if a better British Jazz album is released this year.” Darren Morris, at North Street West studios, mixed the Oddball Creatives ‘La Beat Soul Club Tribute’ remix and added additional piano, bass and strings on Joseph's dedication to his favourite soul club in the world, ‘La Beat Soul Club’. The La Beat DJs, Gavin Elder, Brian Gordon and Ross Wilson’s DJ sets deeply inspired Joseph and Daniel to go home after the club night to reinterpret ‘Adult Contemporary’ as a tribute to dancing the night away on the Southside of Edinburgh. Joseph invited Colin Steele to capture the magic to make a dance floor filler for the end of the night. 

Daniel Walls has had a solo release on Ramrock Red, under his DJ moniker Digital Liquid, called ‘Footsteps’ where he teamed up with Joseph and Beldina Odenyo. Dan has also worked closely with Joseph since Joseph’s ‘Diverse’ 2 + 3 LP releases. Dan’s remix off shoots of their work include ‘Only Fans’ and his ‘Come One, Come All’ ‘Battle Cry’ rework.

When Joseph sent House legend/FAITH magazine editor Terry Farley the hot new 'Oddball Creatives' extended club mix of ‘Adult Contemporary’, he gushingly replied after listening on his sound bar loudly several times: "That’s incredible mate. It's the kind of track that reminded me of the 'I need You’ era, Sylvester mixed with NYC morning music/ sleaze that got played at iconic Manhattan clubs like The Saint as the dancers came down off their uppers and the Quaaludes kicked in. The vocal is beautiful, and the mix never takes the turns you expect. To make such a very left field and clever track without losing its core danceability isn’t an easy trick but Joseph’s vocal performance nails it in the most beautiful way”.

02 Killer On The Roof (DM Remaster)

Ramrock Red Records are beyond happy to be releasing Greenwood & Horn’s debut single, ‘Dust of Falling Stars’ on June 24th. Born during lockdown, this ethereal chugger would be something that Mr Weatherall would’ve had on his radar. It grabs you by your collar from the opening bars and shakes you firmly into listening to Ian’s beautiful production with Ali’s vocals floating effortlessly over the bass and melody and imagining yourself bathed in eternal summer sunshine at a happening just beyond the perimeter of your mind. The North Street West crew take the track and raise the tempo by a couple of BPMs with Darren Morris adding his keyboard chemistry, Jo Wallace on arrangement and Daddy Ash on the drum machine.  Suddenly, you’re on the White Isle in the shimmering heat, moving in perfect time to the Balearic beat and never wanting it to end.

Back in the 70’s, you’ll find a young Winsford born Ian Greenwood sharing a bedroom with his much older uncle listening to Northern Souls classics, with his older sister in the room next door singing into a hairbrush to Motown classics…fast forward to his first band Sunset Over Berlin who later became Day Without Rain which gave Greenwood his first real taste of the music business when the band found themselves in the world-famous Amazon Studio’s recording their first EP ‘The Way She Was’ with John Murphy (Thomas Lang) on production duty. Then came a stint with Widnes Indie band 35 Summers who went on to sign to RCA Records and released two singles, ‘Really Down’ and ‘I Didn’t Try and also having the accolade of doing not one but two John Peel sessions. Ian then joined Wirral Indie band Fishmonkeyman and it was with them that Greenwood cut his production teeth, experimenting with electronic music, a collaboration with Chameleons drummer, John Lever and building his home studio named AM studios. Ian produced his own house productions under various disguises such as Oscar Le Mons and Damoon and going on to manage Liverpudlian group, The Sugarmen. Mick Jones of The Clash was such a huge fan of the band that he produced their debut album at Paul Weller Rockfield studio. Over the next five years Greenwood invested heavily in his home studio and was pondering his next career move when lockdown came along, and he started writing music + producing again. Keen to find the right vocalist to accompany his work Greenwood called up the bass player from The Sugarmen, Ali Horn – and so the ‘Greenwood & Horn’ story begins….

Ali Horn picks up the story: “I actually first met Ian when he was managing The Sugarmen in Liverpool over 10 years ago – crazy!!! I think we'd been aware of each other’s projects since then and then lockdown was the perfect time for a collaboration”. Ali was born in London, raised in Liverpool and has been playing music as long as he can remember. He’s been integral part of many influential bands such as Strange Collective, The Sugarmen and Post Romantics, Horn knows his way around a hazy, laid back tune and has found just the right balance between slices of Surf, Psychedelia, Folk and Alt-Indie in his musical output and vocal delivery. Having released his debut E.P. ‘It Wears Off’ in December 2019, Ali spent the majority of 2020 documenting, writing and recording his debut album ‘Balcony Boys’, which hit the shelves on the 16th July 2021 via Loominance Records, a label that Horn set up with a couple of friends. His music is a firm favourite of BBC Radio Merseyside’s Dave Monks, BBC Radio 6’s Liz Kershaw with sessions for BBC Introducing and BBC Wales and featured on Tom Robinson’s 6Music ‘Fresh on the Net’.

Ramrock Red Records are delighted to introduce 77:78 - the project from Aaron Fletcher & Tim Parkin, card carrying members of the musical kaleidoscope that is The Bees. ‘Love Said (Let’s Go)’ was previously released as part of their 2018 ‘Jellies’ LP on the brilliant Heavenly Records to great reviews and accolades in the press. As part of the same project, Ashley Beedle and The Flying Mojito Brothers delivered late 70’s inspired sunset saturated remixes. However, the Wallace & Morris Rework flew under the radar and until now, has never seen the light of day. Thanks to the kind generosity of the band, Ramrock Red were granted permission to release this beautifully shimmering, uniquely British psych folk production with bold Balearic touches.

Inspirationally drawing on similar threads and musical approaches to their first band, the deck’s been shuffled and a different hand has now been dealt. Parkin’s exquisite vocals drive 77:78, whilst the production is from the mysterious Boe Weaver  - both delivering tempos, grooves and song writing gives you a constant warm friendly hug that you knowingly need.

After catching a performance of the Newcastle based, musical powerhouse King Bee in 2022, Jo Wallace approached their manager and asked if they were looking for a label. As luck would have it, the planets aligned and the mighty Les Aitch said ‘yes’. A selection of unreleased tracks was sent to Jo, and, without hesitation, she picked the insanely catchy ‘Good to be back’, featuring the wonderful vocals of the very talented Mr Andre Espeut. The seven piece King Bee, established in 2011 by Dave Wilde and Chris Jelly, supply the authentic, original, hard driving jazz funk fusion sound, with a live three piece horn section, unstoppable bass grooves and the unique sound of Chris Jelly’s exquisite vibraphone playing in the mix. Taken from the Twelve Caesars album, ‘Scenes from Wild Eyed Dreams’, ‘Ride The American Wave’ has been gathering momentum since Jo Wallace and Ashley Beedle heard the original version. They both thought that the repeated refrain on the end of the track was hypnotic and merited a big, epic Balearic West Coast expansion to make it even more magnificent. The result is remarkable – the No’West crew added waves on a seashore with Darren Morris’s psychedelic fuzz guitar playing weaving in and out of the Twelve Caesars instrumentation, complimenting the mesmerising vocals of Andrew Pipe. The result is solo George Harrison outings, Beach Boys along with Spiritualised and My Bloody Valentine all rolled up in a Californian trip. ‘Ride The American Wave’ is equally at home in Laurel Canyon as well as the White Isle. Andrew Pipe explains:

Social media blew up recently with footage showing Emma Noble debuting ‘JazzCazz’ with her 10 piece band at London’s ‘OMeara’, causing Ramrock’s switchboard to go into meltdown. But here is where the story begins….‘Jazzcazz’ is the musical lovechild of Jazz Funk, House and Rave DJ/promoter, Dan ‘The Drum’ Spalding, dance music DJ/producer Ronnie Turner and DJ/chanteuse, Emma Noble. The inspiration for this 100bpm Jazzer was triggered by Dan and Emma’s love for Coffee’s 1980 iconic disco cover of the original 1967 version of ‘Casanova’, sung by Ruby Andrews and penned by the mighty Jo Armstead, The ensuing trip down to Ronnie Turner’s studio brought the demo to life thanks to Ronnie’s masterful production and Dan’s deft arrangement. Their genius decision to add Emma Noble’s exquisite vocal delivery was the absolute icing on the musical cake and with all the essential ingredients in place, ‘JazzCazz’ was born. The result is a track that could easily have been released on Blue Note in the 60’s and discovered by crate diggers in 2024. The trio’s cool, jazzy retro spin on Ruby and Coffee’s versions exudes timeless dance floor love - it's definitely ‘not all over, Casanova’.

From East End barrow boy to club nights on the Costas, Dan “The Drum” Spalding has deejayed alongside the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Dave Lee, Craig Charles, Brandon Block, Ashley Beedle and Huey Morgan to name but a few. Having spent his early years quite literally banging the drum for his beloved Spurs, the name stuck and so did his love for all things with a beat. Immersing himself since the age of 14 in Funk & Soul, Reggae, Ska, House, Rare Groove and Hip Hop, Dan went on to co-found ‘The Lockdown Legacy’ DJ events raising thousands for local and national charities, DJ’d at FAITH as well as broadcasting on East London’s Totally Wired Radio, owned by Acid Jazz record label boss, Eddie Piller. In 2023, Dan delved into the production side of music fuelled by his thirst for learning and love of music – ‘JazzCazz’ is the first of many more productions to come.

Ronnie Turner needs no introduction to dance music connoisseurs with a career that started in the early ’80s and continues unabated. He has DJ’d alongside the likes of Sean French, Robbie Vincent, Jeff Young, Greg Edwards, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and Tony Humphries to name but a few. Ronnie’s remix credits include Odyssey, Tortured Soul, Noel Mckoy, Bodyrox, Tom Jones, Richard Seaborne and The JBs with releases on Masterworks Music, Atjazz Records and Yam Who's Midnight Riot. He turned festival promotor in 2020 with Faith’s Stuart Patterson and there is a Goa Festival 2024 waiting to happen!

Debuting as a solo artist in 2020, Emma Noble’s sound is rooted in her deep love for rare soul, funk disco and Gospel. Her releases have been embraced by the most respected tastemakers on the scene, receiving radio support from Lauren Lavern, Don Letts, Deb Grant, Tony Blackburn, Gary Crowley, Norman Jay MBE and Eddie Piller, with Craig Charles describing her arrival on the scene as ‘one of the highlights of 2020’. Emma’s 2022 collaboration with Matt Berry resulted in the Psych-Soul cover of Doris’s ’67 release, ‘Beatmaker’, featured on the BAFTA Award winning ‘Toast of Tinseltown’. Emma is also one half of ‘Noble & Heath’, the double decking, dynamic, vinyl only DJ duo, DJ'ing all over the UK & Europe in places such as The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, XOYO, KOKO,  Jazz Cafe, 100 Club and festivals including Glastonbury. Jo Wallace stumbled across the previously independently released, blue eyed soul masterpiece, ‘Keep Falling For It’ during a late night trawl of the internet at the end of 2023. She was instantly smitten and the ensuing correspondence with the band, Jonson, Jonson and Jonson, ensured that the release of this heartbreakingly, beautiful composition would go out on Ramrock Blue. This first release comes courtesy of Joe Cang deciding that one of the band’s soulful, thematic instrumentals was worthy of his highly evocative vocals delivering his tender but wise lyric about the world’s insatiable appetite for the media’s alternative truths, thus creating ‘Keep Falling For It’. I defy you not to be reduced to a mass of emotionally uplifted molecules by the time you’ve finished listening to ‘Keep Falling For It’

Jonson, Jonson and Jonson comprise of three humans - one studio - no stress. Why ‘Jonson Jonson and Jonson’ you ask? ‘Cang, Schogger and Thornalley’ sounded like reputable accountants so their names were swapped for the partially trusted and familial throwaway ‘Jonson Jonson and Jonson’. Formed randomly during an afternoon studio session, these three, well seasoned songwriter/ producers began by improvising on a vibe and immediately recorded it live as a trio with Danny Schogger on piano, Joe Cang on bass and vocals and Phil Thornalley playing the drums, and the track came together quickly, with much laughter and little planning. 

Individually, Danny Schogger has written and produced hits for Celine Dion and performed with George Michael. Joe Cang co-wrote the No. 1 ‘Shine’ for reggae supergroup, Aswad, worked with the iconic Hall & Oates as well as releasing music as a solo artist signed with the legendary Clive Davis. Phil has produced ‘The Cure’, written songs for Natalie Imbruglia and performed in Bryan Adams’ band.

Taken from the Twelve Caesars forthcoming album, ‘COINTELPRO’, 'Ruby Ridge' is an Americana infused slice of perfect pop. Featuring Andrew Pipe's original lyrics and distinctive vocal delivery, his accomplished guitar work fuses with fellow band member, Steve Ennever's Hammond organ solos. The musical sensibilities of the track are strongly rooted in the Laurel Canyon vibes - think Neil Young, James Taylor and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, conjuring up a distant memory of a road trip on a long dusty highway, listening to AOR radio with the windows wound down in a '67 Buick Electra.

Lyrically, the track recalls the 1992 events of the Ruby Ridge standoff between the Weaver family and the ensuing FBI cover up.

COINTELPRO is based on the covert activities and series of projects actively conducted by the FBI aimed at surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting political organisation  (1956–1971). It silenced the voices of civil rights luminaries like Fred Hampton, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X, John F Kennedy and his brother Bobby. Andrew Pipe's lyrics reflect those unsettling times.

The story begins when Joseph Malik went to see his old friend, Mike Keat of the Cuban Brothers perform in Edinburgh. Shaka Loves You were on the same bill and when Joseph was invited backstage, he met the boys from Glasgow and they talked about their collective love of Celtic, soul music and about Craig Charles and the huge support he had given to both parties’ releases over the years. As Joseph had his ‘Proxima Ebony Variant Issue’ project on the go, he asked the duo if they’d be interested in working their magic on a remix of 'Trouble with a Capital T'. The answer was a resounding ‘yes’ and so, the Edinburgh/Glasgow funk and soul connection was cemented. When Shaka delivered their fabulous remix, there was much celebration all round – this is a summer soul sizzler of epic proportions.

Shaka Loves You aka Jamie & Marty joined forces in Glasgow in 2011 and have since taken their dynamic sound worldwide. Their sets blend the best of funk, soul, jazz, boogie, disco, and house, mixing current tracks with timeless classics. With Marty’s live percussion adding a distinctive, visual energy, their shows bring a unique spark to the dancefloor that’s both aural and visual. The story begins in the early 00’s when Joseph Malik and Shuya Okino were both signed to Munich based label, Compost Records and Joseph was on tour in Japan with iconic soul artist, Terry Callier. Shuya showed up at the gig and took Joseph to his legendary night club ‘The Room’ in Shibuya, Tokyo and from that early meeting, a bond of musical brotherhood began. They stayed in touch even after Joseph had left Compost, and the pair met up on a regular basis when Shuya visited Edinburgh as his wife, Jo, is from the same city. Joseph had always wanted to work with Shuya after hearing his production skills on Kyoto Jazz Massive’s releases – the group Shuya founded with his brother, Yoshihiro in 1994. So, when Shuya remixed ‘Just to be free’ on Joseph’s ‘Diverse 3’ 2021 album, the precedent was set.

Early in 2025, Shuya reworked Joseph’s track, ‘Adult Contemporary’, taken from his highly acclaimed 2023 ‘Proxima Ebony’ LP and, along with ROOT SOUL, Shuya delivers the full ‘Chic funk dance’ experience, all recorded in Tokyo, Japan and mastered by Darren Morris at North Street West studio in the UK. Guaranteed to cause maximum dance floor damage this summer.

You are listening to NUMBER’s debut single taken from their forthcoming ‘Pollinate’ album, ‘Le Boucle Nouveau’ and the subsequent remix from close friend and musical maverick, Duncan Gray. For lovers of the legendary ALFOS, the sentiments of Mr Weatherall and all things chugging, this brace of releases will be perfect for those determined dancefloor excursions. Inspired by a love of A Certain Ratio, Talking Heads, P funk and scratchy dub, NUMBER is a forward-thinking sound machine fronted by Ali Friend and Rich Thair – the co-founders and rhythm section of music pioneers and renegades, Red Snapper.  Rich and Ali started NUMBER as a means of rediscovering something of what they grew up with; the dirty disco bass lines, noisy drum machines, wonky percussion, leering live drums, jagged guitar melodies and uplifting soulful songs of the 80’s. Ali and Rich have performed all over the world including collaborating live with such electronic luminaries as The Prodigy, Björk and Massive Attack, remixing for the likes of A Certain Ratio, The Sugarhill Gang , Edwyn Collins, The Sabres of Paradise, David Holmes and Songhoy Blues. It’s difficult to describe the feeling when you know you’ve heard something that eclipses the mighty Mr Bird & Greg Blackman’s Ramrock Blue modern soul 12” classic ‘Over Again’ featuring the now legendary Tom Moulton remix. There are three versions of ‘Where Did The Party Go’ -  on the A side is the funky Lo-Fi Classics original, taken from the album of the same name, produced & co-written by Steven Bird and delivered with gritty, Muscle Shoals confidence by Greg Blackman.  This version garnered mass plaudits from the soul cognoscenti – both DJs and radio presenters alike - on its first outing on the BBE label in July 2014. Chidi’s musical journey began when, as part of a national Gospel choir, she supported major artists such as Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and Mary Mary. She has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder and Pixie Lott to name but a few and was also backing singer for Gloria Gaynor. She emerged on the UK Soul scene in 2009 with the underground soul hit ‘Wrong Again’ from her debut album 'Unrehearsed' followed by a highly successful recording career. Now Chidi’s teamed up with the internationally acclaimed producer/composer/arranger Tom Glide on the ‘Divas Got Soul’ LP. 

The result of Chidi’s collaboration with Tom is the beautifully evocative ‘Old Skool Dayz’. Remixes come from three highly respected remixers, all drawn to the original through social media word of mouth. 

Iberian edits supremo James Rod takes the lazy hazy beats of the original, plumps and pumps them, adds in washes of reverb, bubbly synths and a general feeling of mañana! 
No introductions needed for Ashley Beedle who takes the playfulness of the original vocal and adds a nice thick slice of deft Rhodes work and funk drumming. The outcome? A lazy day in 70’s San-Fran, looking at the Golden Gate bridge through an acid haze! 
Rubberlips' remix takes the original into big soundscape territory recalling Manc legends World Of Twist. The laid back vibe of the original is taken to a sun lounger for a cocktail and a psychedelic or two with added bass from Randy Martin.

Drawing their inspiration from the darkest recesses of the musical repertoire of Dr. John, Muddy Waters, Allen Toussaint and a generation of blues artists who travelled alone with their guitars in a gunny sack along lonely back roads in the pale Delta moonlight, Joseph and Saleem, along with a stellar line up of Scottish musicians, have created something akin to musical redemption. Ramrock Red Records boss, Jo Wallace gives ‘Take A Left’ an additional remix by taking Joseph’s impromptu jam from the front porch of a wooden cabin, along an echoing corridor and into the confines of a compact Bayou studio….you will sense the darkness but surely see the light.

Joseph Malik has always had a great ear for finding artists to work with on his projects and on ‘Take a Left’, he has teamed up with Scotland’s finest soul brothers and sisters to provide the soul power to help him complete his mission to record the best in Soul, Jazz and Blues music. Ramrock Red Records are delighted to announce a new signing & release to the label - the brilliant electroacoustic duo of singer/songwriter Abigail Hubbard and producer/engineer Matt Smyth, collectively known as Liotia (pronounced Ly – Oh – Sha). Between them, they create a truly enchanting ensemble of original sounds, samples, licks and melodies which fuse electronica, trip hop and jazz influences.  Liotia combine Abigail’s haunting vocals and with Matt’s digital soundscapes and drum machine to deliver their original version on the stunning “Blackout” EP. Abigail and Matt began working together while she was at a local music charity where he managed the studio facility. Matt, who also works alongside producer Adrian Sherwood at On U Sound and is Living Colour’s UK/Europe tour engineer, produced Abigail’s debut EP ‘People Watching’ which gained support from Tom Robinson at Radio 6 and was licensed to producer Robert Miles’ Open Lab compilation. This working partnership progressed into the Liotia project with a tighter, polished more cinematic style including a range of acoustic and electronic instruments. The band have been likened to Portishead meets Little Dragon. Other releases from the duo include their debut EP So Close / Yours Tonight in July 2019

Recorded at ‘The House of IMIZWA’ studios, reggae artist and Asian Dub Foundation frontman Ghetto Priest teams up with Carlton ‘Bubbler’ Ogilvie to produce and unleash his fresh reggae take of the mighty Aaron Neville’s iconic 1973 rare groove classic ‘Hercules’. With Mr Ogilvie on keyboards, Ital Horns on brass duties Greg Blackman on backing vocals and Crucial Tony on guitar, Ghetto’s beautifully executed, deft vocals ride over a rock solid riddim - the original version taken from Ghetto’s forthcoming ‘Big People Music’ LP. You’ll hear this blasting out of low rider windows rolled down in the summer heat and radios across the globe in 2021 and beyond.

Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris take the North Street West ‘HOLYVOODOU’ remix on a musical detour through hidden Louisiana backwaters to visit a ‘vaudou’ priestess to collect some gris gris and onward to New Orleans to meet Doctor John at the Mardi Gras. Leaning heavily towards the Meters school of phrasing, the North Street West version is infused with layers of eloquent keyboards, righteous handclapping, chicken bones and a generous helping of Bayou Funk, making a connection to the Aaron Neville original. A North Street West Dub and Radio Edit completes the package.
