Reece Walker (sometimes known as Carmel) is a DJ and producer originally from
Perth, Australia now living Leipzig, Germany. He has released on labels such as
Kann, Long Vehicle and R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings - the latter, a label that he
founded and runs along with co-running the labels, Breakfree, QC Records and
Bitterfeld Musik. In his spare time he runs the vinyl and digital music distribution
company, Inch By Inch Distribution. Expect all varieties of house on record, from the late 80s til today along with techno and electro with groove.

For this edition of our MIXED BY series, we're thrilled to welcome Gearmaster, the fresh alias from the minds behind former duo Abdul Raeva. Emerging from the vibrant underground scene of Tallinn, Gearmaster represents a new chapter marked by a refined sonic identity — “more groove, less goof,” as they put it.

In the interview, the duo reflects on their artistic evolution, explaining how the Gearmaster project distills years of experimentation into something more deliberate and groovy, while still carrying the punch and playfulness that made their previous work stand out. With the launch of their own label Slipdisc Recordings, they now have full creative control, and their debut release Time To Slam sets the tone: high-energy, groove-forward club music with a sharp ear for texture and detail.

Expect a mix that echoes this philosophy — percussive, fun, and purposeful — balancing subtle movements with floor-ready energy. It’s a fusion of everything they’ve learned through years of alias-hopping and sound design, delivered with clarity and character.

Schadenheimer fled Syria for Europe in 2016, eventually finding refuge in Germany. While working through personal challenges, they began exploring new wave, electronica and the raw aesthetics of post-punk, all of which shaped the sound and feel of this release.

Their first single, "Der Lärm in meinem Kopf / Selbstliebe ist egal" reflects a state of inner unrest. Drawing from experiences of war, migration and personal struggle, Schadenheimer shares a direct and honest take on what it means to live with constant noise/war within.

This release comes from something deeply personal but speaks to a broader experience. While rooted in the trauma of displacement and emotional conflict, the songs touch on something many can relate to. They explore self-doubt, emotional numbness and the quiet pull of self-sabotage.

According to Schadenheimer, despite the weight of these themes - there was always a sense that something within could carry them forward. That feeling doesn’t remove the struggle, but it helps to keep moving.

"Der Lärm in meinem Kopf / Selbstliebe ist egal" will be released on 18.07.2025 on 7" vinyl and digital via the Leipzig imprint, R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings.

Aber Nils und Jens haben sich wieder durch mehrere sehr gute Releases aus Leipzig durchgehört und einige Hits daraus aufgewählt. What would have become of D.A.F. if they had been signed to Trojan instead of Mute back in the day? Add a good pinch of absurdism and social realism in the vein of prized film director Roy Andersson and Vanligt Folk might just be the answer. The Gothenburg group’s name can be translated to ’common people’ and they make use of primitive electronics, drums and skewed vocals - ranging from harsh social commentary to the purely nonsensical - to create their own take on body music. ’Hambo’ is the name of a traditional Swedish folk dance that was highly popular among the common people at the turn of the last century. With this album, Vanligt Folk juxtaposes the working class dance phenomena of Hambo with modern day rave culture. This is done in the most blasphemous manner thinkable, as is the way of Vanligt Folk. Concepts like nationalism, race and tradition are all treated with the same merry lack of reverence. The only thing that needs to be respected is The Dance and those who take part in it, whether accompanied by accordions or drum machines. Or both. 

This album is a collaboration between Kontra-Musik and DJ veteran Rivet’s label Kess Kill.
