You can really hear the "realverb" on the guitars in this part. Really pushed the big room sound to make it sound spacious!

Reese used a floor tom covered with a bed sheet and soft mallets to add some cool low end percussion. Kinda reminds me of a marching bass drum.

I really like the distant shaker for this part. I had Reese stand in the far corner of my life room, about 15 feet from the overhead room mics.

Some cool volume swell effects here by Ryden. We contemplated just using volume envelopes but the effect of manipulating the volume knob just sounds way cooler.

Epic vibraphone solo!  Crazy fact: The weekend after this recording, Reese's collegiate percussion group played backup for bass virtuoso, Victor Wooten.

I think we did about 7 or 8 takes of this solo on vibes... all of them very different. Same thing with the guitar solo coming up.

As with the vocals, natural reverb really makes pushing a solo upfront more cohesive with the rest of the mix, whereas artificial reverb plugins and rack effects can make it sound like it's not part of the band.

Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier half-stack for the distorted leads. Betcha wouldn't have guessed that one ;D

Slight clicks coming through the tele's pickups actually sound neat here. Normally I would either re-take the part or edit it out, but I like the very subtle clock effect it produced.
