This was meant as a song released before 2022 is over but instead this ended up as one of first uploaded tracks of 2023. It's been a long while but after a few years, I have return from hiatus to make music again. I made this as a tribute to my former mom whom I will miss dearly. Part of the reason it is called Sky Garden because gardening was something she had interest in doing in her life. This is admittedly not the most elaborate or the best since this originated as sketch testing KORG Gadget on the Nintendo Switch and it's been a while since I made a new track. This was tweaked with iOS/iPadOS version of KORG Gadget since it allowed import of Switch version projects. I didn't upload songs for awhile due to well several events in the last few years in my life, meaning I wasn't in too much of a mood to do music, or at least anything really upbeat, in fact this is my first downtempo song uploaded onto Soundcloud. I am not too sure it's that sad but I admit it's a bit mournful. The music scale is minor pentatonic in reference to my mom's Lao/Chinese background and I want to make something with that slight influence. There's no chords/pad/arp track since I am not too sure how to harmonize this and again this was originally was just a simple sketch. Hopefully this new year will turn out better than last year for everyone, but it remains to be seen.

Sky Garden

It's been a while after several months (though this song was created since 2016-2017?) but I finished another track. Rage of Ember is my first attempt at Eurobeat (a genre that I like but until maybe recently didn't have too many production tutorial/notes at least in English) which a relatively fast mostly energetic song with a mix of hard/soft sounds and synth/non-synth instruments. This was made around when Caustic 3.2 along my other Caustic song Frost was created and had new features like SawSynth, tempo changes, and scale lock which convince me to do stuff with Caustic since I like these new features and is basically a demo for Caustic 3.2 (Though I wonder if future devices can still run this app). While fiddling around with SawSynth thanks to playing with stuff like the pitch envelope, I accidentally created Eurobeat brass and so I decided to try Eurobeat. This also features a Trancegate sound because i thought that was cool and some tempo changes to give it a contrast of slower calmer ballad-esque parts with piano with the fast driving upbeat parts with synth/guitar. This uses a mix of my own sounds, with other presets (which I don't fully remember) and soundfonts. Maybe I got my groove back so maybe new music might be coming soon.

Rage of Ember

This is a Trance remix of Bangapsumnida that is featured quite a bit throughout the VICE documentary of North Korea where Shane Smith is in a tour inside the country and talks about what he thinks. My friend want to see if I can do a more modern sounding version of that song, and so I did it. Done with LMMS and Synth1.

Bangapsumnida (Trance Remix)

Happy New Year! This is well my take on Auld Lang Syne a Scottish folk song with unclear origin of melody. This my take, well multiple takes of the song in different styles. Although it starts and ends in the way people expect, in between it switches from Trance to DnB to House to Hardcore Techno and Breakbeats. Although released on the first day of 2024, the track started production on the last days of 2023. It ended up being released just a bit past midnight since I had to polish it up in the iPad version of Korg Gadget after sketching out in the Switch version. It is a genre roulette since I can't decide on one genre to do this in and well I want to challenge myself to see how flexible I am. It would of included more genres but I think it would take a bit too long to make if that happens. (Doing this many genres was kind of taxing already)Some of the presets are mix of my own and presets.

Auld Lang Syne (Multigenre ver.)

This is new track that I have been working made with Korg M01D. I decided to create this song because I wanted to create a partial tribute to the 90s aka my childhood (like how Synthetic Groove is to the 80s) and one of the first electronic music I remember which is Eurodance especially like Masterboy, Snap!, Capella, and etc. I know Eurodance is a guilty pleasure for me since it is maybe kind of a more commercial style of electronic music several years ago, but I have a soft spot because I like the synths and catchy melodies of Eurodance. (I think it is better than the so called "EDM" that is the hip thing in North America's mainstream) Another reason I did this track is because I wanted to make another song with Korg M01D but I realize while it is not exactly the best at making more modern electronic music since most of the sounds are from the late 80s-90s with only some modern sounds in the EX bank (there are not too many synth sounds but there are exceptions like the Rave and Sync Lead, though), it is very good at producing 90s music so I decided on making a Eurodance track. This song features more classic elements of Eurodance like the M1 piano and orchestra hits, it also feature some more modern elements like Detune Saw styled Rave Synth and stuttering. If am not too busy/lazy, I will try to attempt to add some vocals. It is called Weekend because I felt how fun something like Fridays nights can be.

Weekend (Instrumental Ver.)

My first original track in quite awhile and this time is my first attempt at a Hard Trance song. Believe or not, this is a sequel to both Before Dawn and After Dusk which were two songs in different trance genres, meaning this is now a trilogy of songs. With this son I was aiming for a vibe that isn't as light as Before Dawn or as dark as After Dusk, so something in-between the two. This song has harder sounds like the unison saw lead, slightly fast tempo and reverb. (There's also a track with a Lisbon synth which I admit sounds pretty good)  There's some filter sweeps but I tried automating a little reverb as well. Hard Trance is a faster and obviously harder take on Trance and gave inspiration to other genres like Hardstyle which seems to overshadow, but I wanted to try Hard Trance regardless. This is possibly my last song of 2024.

During Midday

After a while, I have finally completed this song and it is the first song I made with G-Stomper Studio on my Samsung Galaxy S5. For a while, I had recorded a song called Before Dawn which is a upbeat and bright/euphoric sounding trance song, but After Dusk is meant as a counterpoint/sequel to that song. Unlike Before Dawn, After Dusk is meant as a more edgier and harsher/harder sounding Psytrance song and has a bit a ethnic influence due its use of the Phrygian scale. I really wanted to do Psytrance since its one of my favourite genres but I didn't really had a chance to do it until recently. I originally had an idea to do this song with the Korg EMX-1 but I didn't complete it and didn't felt too satisfied with the results. Also, Before Dawn is meant to represent daybreak where the skies become bright and After Dusk represents nightfall where the skies become dark.

After Dusk

So this is the last track I just uploaded before 2017 starts soon. I felt that I didn't really make a actual song that I completed yet prior to this track. This is my first completed track in Korg Gadget and it is a Hardcore Techno track which I didn't make a full song yet in that genre until now. The name Rapid Rhythm is because it is a fast song obiviously, and also the Rhythm part of the song name is inspired by music games which for some reason tends to have Hardcore Techno or some form of it in their games like recent Bemani games such as Beatmania IIDX, Dynamix, OverRapid and so on. I admit this is not my best I kind of made this quickly in a few days since again, I didn't real post a real track for this year and also the year is almost over. This song features more modern sounds like the unison lead synth but also features a more older acid-style synth bass as well.

Rapid Rhythm

After awhile, I've finally finished my first completed song with Caustic 3 (and the first upload for this year). For awhile, I had heard of Caustic 3 but it was only recently that the new 3.2 version made me really interested to learn and use since it has new features like the ability to do BPM changes, use different time signatures and a new synth called SawSynth (which is pretty cool). It was supposed to be completed somewhere back in February, but I didn't have too much motivation at the time so it took awhile. This song is an Electronic Waltz song or maybe it's more like a Synthpop song that's in 3/4. While I had used different time signatures in Power Striker before, this is the first time I did a song completely in 3/4 instead of the usual 4/4 as I want to challenge myself with writing melodies and stuff in 3/4. The song is weirdly enough (at least considering it's now spring)an upbeat with a bit of mystery, winter themed, has a mix of synth with "non-synth" instruments and even some sleigh bells as percussion. I had thought about making concept EP around making tracks based on the four seasons but I don't know if that will happen. Some sounds are default presets but others are either synth patches I've made or other samples like the drums/percussion from Korg EMX (it was on a site somewhere) and the Strings preset made by Skarabee (Thanks!). There's also a section which is my attempt at triplets, that part sounded really cool especially with the synth lead and for some reason it sounds a bit fantasy like or Irish folk music inspired. The songs is partially inspired by SABER WING and POSSESSION by TAG which inspired me to make make this song.

Frost

My first and only track I've actually completed before 2018 is finished. (Sounds like Rapid Rhythm's backstory, huh?) Anyways, I've finally found some motivation to make an actual song and this time it is house music. This was made in Groove Rider GR-16 which I've waited for that update for stuff  like song mode to arrive and I'm impressed it ran on a iPad2 without crashing (or at least not too much crashing), so props to the dev. This is somewhat of a successor to my older song Night written a while ago (The name is kind of obvious) and got somewhat of a groove going on with a synth solo somewhere. I would've completed sooner but I was stuck figuring out how to to arrange it from a small pattern to a full song but I've did it. I know the song is not the greatest but considering I wanted at least one song to release in 2018 it's something decent sounding at least. I also put a little (sort of subtle) flanger to the drums (it's slightly sloppy but I was live recording the MFX in song mode). There's a mix of synths (I liked the FM bass I've made) and a dash of vibes, piano and strings (which has some sidechaining which is one of the more modern production techniques I've sort of embraced) from the built in PCMs. It sort of feels like old school house meets new school house in a way. Will I make more songs in 2019? I hope so, but I can't fully guarantee it. Anyways I hope everyone will have great new year regardless.
