Khenpo Chödrak Tenphel Rinpoche - an eminent teacher of the Karma Kagyu lineage who is currently lecturing on tantric views and practices at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery - has accepted Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s request to present and discuss Buddhism’s three yānas based on Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye’s Treasury of Knowledge and he spoke with students at RYI on Feb, 4, 5 & 6, 2016 and translated by Dr. Thomas Doctor.

A newly published translation and study of Tāranātha’s Commentary on the Heart Sūtra (Sher phyin snying po’i mdo’i tshig ’grel) was written by Tāranātha (1575–1634), widely considered to be one of the greatest Tibetan Buddhist scholars, translators and practitioners. The leitmotif of the text is Tāranātha’s five-fold assertion in various places that the Sūtra ‘clearly teaches the Empty-of-Other Great Madhyamaka’. This, for Tāranātha, confirms that ‘the intention of all three Turnings [of the Dharma Wheel] is the Empty-of-Other Great Madhyamaka’. A few copies of the book will be available for purchase at the lecture (700 NPR) and one book is also now available for loan at the RYI Library.
Adele Tomlin is from England and has been a student and practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism since 2005. After commencing her studies of Tibetan language at the Rangjung Yeshe Institute (2006), she has been studying Tibetan language and Buddhist Philosophy in Nepal, India, and Europe ever since. She recently completed her MA in Tibetan Buddhist Studies from the University of Hamburg (2016). Her Master’s thesis on Tāranātha’s Commentary on the Heart Sūtra was recently published as a book (LTWA, 2017). She is currently based in India, and for the last year has been translating two major Jonang texts on Kālacakra, and some shorter texts, with the instruction of a Jonang Rinpoche for publication. Her talk was entitled : Tāranātha’s Commentary on the Heart Sūtra:
the Connection between Empty-of-Other view (gzhan stong)
and Prajñāpāramitā.
