German electronic music producer Daniel Herrmann, better known as Flug 8, announces his fourth album on Ransom Note Records, 'Skynet' - a minimalist electronic meditation on societal contradictions created during the pandemic era. 

Recorded in Germany's Taunus Studio before Herrmann's relocation to Denmark, 'Skynet' represents a deliberate step towards stripped-back production methods. Working with just a drum machine and an analogue synthesiser, he crafted each track with an intentional focus on essential elements before carefully layering intricate additional aural textures over it. 

The album emerged from Herrmann's observations of systemic inconsistencies during the global covid lockdown period. While not explicitly political, Skynet channels these observations into compelling electronic compositions that invite listeners to draw their own conclusions. 

“I felt the need to do something critical of the system. For me it was more about reflecting on a number of inconsistencies of that time, juxtaposing them as counterpoints and in this way getting inspiration for the respective pieces.” 

The project benefits from the masterful touch of renowned producer Jörn Elling Wuttke, who handled the mastering duties. Elling Wuttke was one half of the amazing The Primitive Painter with Roman Flugel whose self-titled 1994 lost classic album of sonorous IDM got a fitting reissue on Apollo a few years back. Further, Biotech features collaborative vocals from biologist turned singer, Hans Trapp.

Skynet marks a significant milestone in Flug 8's discography, serving as his final album produced in Germany before embarking on a new chapter in Denmark. The result is a powerful bookend, a goodbye to time’s past and a testament to the ability of music to process and reflect upon challenging times.

Head honchos of the wonderful Delodio label, Stéphane and François, mark the 50th release for R$N Recs, and this is without a shadow of a doubt an incredibly special one for us. So, sit back and ready yourself for some inimitable Froid Dub cuts; laid back but pounding, graceful yet aggressive but above all, thoroughly danceable. 

Opening proceedings is the Acid tinged Just One, a masterclass in making people dance at under 80bpm. Achingly gorgeous polysynth chords rain down, hovering like a film overhead the saturated 303 line that wobbles along in the low end. First single On The Nose enters next, with a delightfully soft, round bass that feels like bouncing around a padded room. Inside a Zorb. On MDMA. More echoed, analogue motifs dart from left to right, confirming with strong conviction that our chaps from Paris put the Dub in Indubitably Fantastic.

Digital Pond closes side A of the 12”, a low slung, nonchalant piece of mood music. Idiosyncratically “French” , brittle chords piece the sound stage, evoking past Italo Disco spaces, but remaining conscientiously chug-dubbed out. Second single Control (Special Mix) opens side B… with a capital B. For Banger. Another Space Echo heavy workout in the lower frequencies of the audio spectrum, this is testament to the old adage that less is often, a hell of a lot more (to paraphrase). 

The titular Tears Maker glides into view next, with its frantic 808 patterns and spacey melodica, setting the scene for the majesty to follow. This epically proportioned tune is probably going to be a little passe come the end of summer, because it’s going to be played at festivals the world over relentlessly. Be warned! Finally Terri’s Dub brings matters to a close, with its angular, stands and woozy vocals, we’re given the space and tie to contemplate what has just happened to us on two mere sides of vinyl.

Hot on the heels of the acclaimed Tears Maker Chant 12” LP, illustrious French Electronic duo Froid Dub are back on Ransom Note Records with an interstellar remix package. Featuring the inimitable talents of Richard Fearless, Lena Willikens, Rug Dug, Tia Cousins, Zillas On Acid, Tolouse Low Tax, Timothy Clerkin and Vacant Heads, there is a little something special for all occasions on this colossal record. Slip into something comfortable and sit back.

Opening proceedings, Mr Richard Fearless starts us off with a bang with his remix of Control. Or, indeed, a warp. Bubbly Dubby bass abound, frenetic, IDM-esque beats skip along underneath the low end pummelling before giving way to luxuriant chord progressions. A perfect balance of light and shade, this is a weapons grade banger.

Next up, Lena Willikens puts her own distinctive imprint on Digital Pond. Upping the bpm and the pressure, this dark, synthy, Lofi safari is an anxiety attack is audio format. But an exceptionally pleasurable one!

Lead single comes from Strange Affair with their mix of Just One. Who are Strange Affair, we hear you ask? They are the exquisite combination of two big hitters, Ruf Dug and Tia Cousins! We’re delighted to introduce their maiden voyage as a production pair, and they make waves here with a frenzied reimagining of the original.

Elsewhere, Philly Chug Champions Zillas On Acid turn On The Nose into a dance floor stomper of epic proportions. Tolouse Low Trax takes on Terri’s Dub, sliding into a pair of laidback slacks and sipping a cocktail on the showery terrace, his insouciant approach will have you dancing in the most relaxed way imaginable.

Timothy Clerkin remixes LP lead track Tears Maker, which in Froid Dub’s very own words is “like been catapulted back to a DJ Alfredo mix at Pacha Club in 92”. Hands in the air! Finally, our old friends Oliver Ho and Christian Donaghey (Autumns) team up as Vacant Heads to undertake Tears Maker too, moulding it into an angular, industrial dirge, brimming with sleaze, distortion and grimy 808s. Ransom Note Records are thoroughly hyped to introduce a collaborative record of frankly gigantic proportions. Two of our very favourite artists have made the entirely correct decision to work with one another on a summer anthem so large and dense, light has to bend around it. 

Who are they? Well, one half is the inimitable Tom Sharkett, a.k.a, that really talented bloke off of W.H. Lung and Optimo Music! Aside from playing guitar in his critically acclaimed band, Tom has a neat little sideline in producing club bangers, DJing and touring his formidable live set all over the world. Based in The People’s Republic of Todmorden, he’s recently had releases on Heavenly Recordings, Okay Nature and Insult To Injury.

Yes, it’s R$N Records alumni and producer extraordinaire Raf Rundell! The pair clearly have chemistry and have synthesised something very special for us…

Following up on the runaway success of his Dream The Dream compilation, Richard Sen returns with a dance floor focussed interpretation of Mind Over Rhythm - Kubital Footstorm.  In his own words: “This is a progressive breakbeat version and I tried to keep the original 90s vibe to it, but add my own personality. Because there were no separate parts available to use, I had to take samples of audio from the finished original. I added my own synth sounds and drums so it became a proper remix, rather than just edits.”
Dropping just in time for festival season, this dance floor stomper is undoubtedly going too soundtrack the summer!

Featuring the inimitable talents of Richard Fearless, Lena Willikens, Rug Dug, Tia Cousins, Zillas On Acid, Tolouse Low Tax, Timothy Clerkin and Vacant Heads, there is a little something special for all occasions on this colossal record. Slip into something comfortable and sit back.

Opening proceedings, Mr Richard Fearless starts us off with a bang with his remix of Control. Or, indeed, a warp. Bubbly Dubby bass abound, frenetic, IDM-esque beats skip along underneath the low end pummelling before giving way to luxuriant chord progressions. A perfect balance of light and shade, this is a weapons grade banger.

Next up, Lena Willikens puts her own distinctive imprint on Digital Pond. Upping the bpm and the pressure, this dark, synthy, Lofi safari is an anxiety attack is audio format. But an exceptionally pleasurable one!

Lead single comes from Strange Affair with their mix of Just One. Who are Strange Affair, we hear you ask? They are the exquisite combination of two big hitters, Ruf Dug and Tia Cousins! We’re delighted to introduce their maiden voyage as a production pair, and they make waves here with a frenzied reimagining of the original.

Ransom Note Records are over the moon to welcome underground hero Autumns to the fold! Autumns, aka Christian Donaghey, has been catapulting angular Post Punk weapons over the ramparts since 2014, via the likes of Downwards, Opal Tapes, iDEAL Recordings and DKA Records. You may have witnessed his fierce live show already, which he has been touring all over the world with Veronica Vasicka, Silent Servant and Wire. We are therefore thoroughly hyped to welcome him with open arms, as he propels four ferocious tunes in our direction. 

The brilliantly titled Trolley Coin is as immediate as it is well named, with beautiful retro bass and Art of Noise-esque drums assaulting the senses. Trademark distorted, echoed vocals are present here too, building an atmosphere of duality: one part petrified dread, one part danceable joy!

Today we're premiering a remix by @esso-ess - the recording project composed of Chris Stoker [Bad Passion] and the excellent Jamie Blanco who's released for the likes of Futureboogie. Their version of 'Seed 2 Sky' takes its inspiration from the warmth and throb of Kraftwerk’s motorway music and reimagines it set in the stars, creating a pulsating mix that’s best heard while travelling the vast arteries of an unknown life form.

If you've never heard of @annalann before, consider this your long-overdue introduction. The Latvian-born, Tel Aviv-based artist makes wildly experimental pop that's heavily informed by underground dance music. So naturally we saw fit to pair her up with R$N Records star @c_a_r for a special release...

Today we're putting out a 'Cholera Reinterpretations' package, which features Anna taking on her favourite track from C.A.R.'s new album 'PINNED'. And what's more, you can download both remixes for free via the link above. Don't say we're not good to you!

The 'Runway Edition' plays host to Anna's own vocals, and was recently featured as the soundtrack to Gal Shenfeld's spring/summer collection 'Heroes' at Tel Aviv Fashion Week 2018.

Following hot on the heels of his sold out 'Rumba' and 'Ciquita' 12”s, @bawrut returned to Ransom Note Records earlier this year with the '4x4' EP - home to four typically leftfield bangers that come on like a whirlwind journey through one of his unfailingly energetic DJ sets.

The accompanying remix EP is out now, featuring contributions from a host of star producers and underground favourites. Berlin’s rising star @marlonhoffstadt turns ‘More Cowbell’ into a breezy extended house jam - just the sort you could imagine spiralling away forever into infinity.

Back in February, @c_a_r aka Chloé Raunet released her second album to huge acclaim from the likes of DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and Trax Magazine. With Raunet taking on the mantle of producer, singer and songwriter, 'PINNED' refined her palette of glimmering electronics and post-punk angles over 11 tracks of hazy, claustrophobic synth pop. 

Chloé has been hard at work on the follow-up ever since, and we’re delighted to be putting out her third album next year. Before we get ahead of ourselves though, there’s a special Xmas treat in the form of the final single to be taken from 'PINNED'. Possibly our favourite track on the album, ‘Flat Out at the Sockhop’ has been one of the highlights of the C.A.R. live show this year, and now it gets the much-deserved video treatment. 

The B-side is a new track, one of C.A.R.’s most desolate synth landscapes. “‘All But…’ was written on a long winter night towards the end of the year”, Chloé explains. “’Tis the season of over-indulgent emotions - counter-festive, brooding & melancholic. Woolly and woven, strings pluck and pull their way through a druggy fabric, all overlaid with dreamy, musing vocals.” 

Even the harshest winter eventually comes to pass, and the ice finally thaws with @manfredas' rather special dancefloor remix of ‘Daughters’ - a perfect aural representation of losing yourself in pulsing colours and beams of light.
