Chaka Khan | What Cha' Gonna Do For Me (Change Request ReVision)

The title track of her third solo album, 1981’s What Cha' Gonna Do For Me" was written by Ned Doheny and Hamish Stuart of the Average White Band. They had recorded the song a year earlier and released it on their LP Shine, produced by David Foster, but it was Hyde Park’s Very Own that took this song to another world.

Released on Warner Bros. Records and produced with Arif Mardin, Chaka Khan’s “What Cha’ Gonna Do For Me” has been a top “port of call” of my personal affinity for the early 80s post-disco electric funk. The Queen Of Everything put this song on the map as the first single off the album that would seal her stardom with other iconic tunes, such as "I Know You, I Live You”, and the Stardust-sampled, “Fate”.

Even beyond my Reprise-styled stripped-down take on this, I also continued to lust after this harmonic motion through an original track—Change Request | Ravaged Romance—that was directly inspired by the chordal arrangements that Doheny and Stuart set forth in their original composition. You know already this great band, originally from south London, the Cool Notes, with one of their anthem “You’re Never Too Young”… Well I have totally revamped and re-mastered this and re created an extended version that is 8:15 long 
Bpm is 108. 
To all my fellow colleague DJs:  can I ask you to be kind enough to not speed up above, please, as the track is playing really fine at 108 bpm.
Just a short notice : all the elements you are hearing on the introduction (keyboards stabs, Bass boom…) were all part of the original track and have been re-filtered, reconstructed and re-mastered for this occasion.
I also added the famous “Just Talk About That” breakbeat that Eric B & Rakim initially used in their “I Know You Got Soul”, as a subtle layer….

Hello Pacific Summer Sound members !
For this 2nd episode the “Ladies of The Canyon” have escaped from their shelter in the Canyon… They have hacked a train to go meet some friends and party in a ranch lost in a Colorado valley…
So this is the soundtrack for the first part of their night out, titled “Before Midnight Set” that includes a West-Coast and Soul selection with versions of tracks carefully beat-matched that you cannot find anywhere else, in order to warm up the Ladies and get them to party all night.
As usual, this set is kindly offered to the passionate “Pacific Summer Sound” members and the recording is available in HD quality.

D.J. / Remix & Music producer / Sound Designer, Doctor Soul started to play music during his childhood days. In the 80’s he learned Bass and played in Indie Soul & Funk bands for the local scene. He was an active collector of LP’s and 12 – inch in Rock/ Jazz Funk/ Fusion/ Soul/ Funk/ Disco & Brazilian bands.
In 1987 he started Dj’ing in parties as well as on Radio Shows in the Bordeaux area, at that time the Acid Jazz phenomenon started to become the big thing. He became a professional Dj in the early 90’s and he explored more into Hip Hop, with fellow Rap acts such as “Iam” among others as well as in Soul Funk music and New Jack Swing…
In 1993, he recorded and co-produced his first track “Un Style Funky” on the now defunct “Double Zero” label under a Funk & Hip Hop collective and in 1994 he released “La Preuve Par Funk” in the Acid Jazz/ Funk genre. Doctor Soul became more involved in the soul scene and did the warm up for live bands such as the British combo “Izit” he also held a residency in a club (Le Senechal) in Bordeaux from 1994 to 1998. Many years later he held a residency from 2013 till 2014 at “Luncha” in Paris. Meanwhile, being close to the Bordeaux Hip Hop, Soul & Funk scene he collaborated with Tribal Jam wich was the first french New Jack Swing band.
On the musical production side, he has collaborated with many artists and bands from diverse genres even in Jazz, bringing production remixes for the likes of legendary Tania Maria, Jeff Cascaro, Mandoo & Interview to name just a few!
His own musical releases are deeply rooted in disco and funk territory with a modern sonic production touch that can grab attention from the younger generation, as well as from the elder who like to be reminded of the 80’s dance floor culture.
Since 2018 he has been hosting a monthly show on RapTz Radio and on the late night dream.com while doing Dj sets for The House Theory Radio Show, The Midnight Riot Radio, and Disko Knights.
