Reptant - Lizard Of Oz (Preview)

The 1st of October 2020 marks 60 years since the independence of Nigeria. Nigeria as we know it today though is not the same Nigerian Federation from that day, having entered its Fourth Republic in 1999. Just as Nigeria has undergone transformation after transformation in the 20th century, so has its music. Nigerian musicians, such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and the Lijadu Sisters, have always been at the forefront of boundary pushing sounds. Today, artists from Nigeria and the diaspora remain amongst the foremost in creative expression. This mix exemplifies the diversity of that legacy, showcasing the highlights from the motherland and beyond, with contemporary giants such as Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Jidenna and Wizkid. All the artists here, albeit largely Yoruba, bring an eclectic mix of firebrand sounds that speak to the history of Nigeria through their sounds, as well as its present and future, through their words.

On CHRONIC DURATIONS he takes the audience on a dramatic, emotional journey into the world of Intelligent Drum and Bass music. The sound is familiar, yet new and timeless, it’s stuck in the 90s while showcasing the future. Slow melodies carry you through the tracks and are broken by fast kicks and glitchy sounds. The EP can be understood as a hybrid of sound and video art. To further lose yourself in the work, The Duty Freedom has created a series of dreamlike glitch video pieces that can be enjoyed alongside the sounds and help to unterstand the artist's full intentions.
