Delicious Vinyl brings you Sunset Blvd, the new album from Yancey Boys, the group piloted by John “Illa J” Yancey and Frank Nitt. The dynamic new collection is built around previously unheard tracks created by Illa J’s brother: the late, great J Dilla (James Yancey). With Frank Nitt’s standing as J Dilla Music Catalog Curator and the official approval of Yancey Media Group, all productions on Sunset Blvd originate from The Lost Scrolls — the stunning cache of beats Dilla left behind.

With its rapturous single “Quicksand” featuring Common, Sunset Blvd also teams Yancey Boys with De La Soul’s Posdnuos (“Beautiful”), The Pharcyde’s SlimKid3 (“Rock My World”), and T3 of Slum Village (“Jeep Volume”), making it clear that the Dilla legacy is being represented by those who knew and collaborated with Dilla in his lifetime. On February 10th, 2006, the world of Hip Hop lost J Dilla aka Jay Dee.
James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey leaves behind an impression on Hip Hop that will last the test of time. A bridge between Hip Hop’s underground and mainstream, Dilla’s contributions ranged from single- handedly defining Detroit Hip Hop as a founding member of Slum Village to providing his production talents to Common, D’Angelo, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Janet Jackson and Macy Gray.

The Shining marked the reunion of J Dilla & BBE, who had released Welcome 2 Detroit, J Dilla’s debut album. The Shining serves as a showcase of J Dilla’s talents which features him not only as a producer, but also as a rapper, singer and musician. Our recent excursion to Russia - as part of the Stay True series with Ballantine’s Scotch Whiskey - proved bountiful for a number of reasons. Not only because it jammed some of the nation's finest boom bap reps together with a hand-picked selection of America's similarly-inclined elite. But also because it was a tour engulfed in genuine, raucous energy. Relationships were formed and a genuine companionship emerged between the heads involved.
 
 So the story goes that DJ Premier spent a few days in the studio alongside St. Petersburg's BMB Spacekid and one half of LA-based funksters NxWorries, Anderson .Paak. The result of their combined wizardry is "Til It's Done" - a headnodding joyride through electro-funk characterised by a hip-hop drum kit underbelly and topped by Anderson's ever-capable vocal acrobatics.
