When we gathered in Karlín Jungle to celebrate the 4th year of club’s existence it was more than just another birthday party. We wanted to put an end to the hardest year we ever had, symbolically. To leave behind, but not to forget. We needed to honor the little things we were able to do in the past year, but we also wanted to start anew, refresh. To raise glasses to a survival. Hence the subtitle – New Beginnings – and what an intense one that was.

We’ve managed to capture some of that intensity on our memory cards and we are publishing it as four memory artefacts: 41 minutes of gloomy yet warm magic of Exhausted Modern; 137 minutes of Claudia playing with Marie Pravda, both ablaze and unstoppable; 2 hours of UK, dub and breaks from Vision of 1994, all smiles and sunshines; and 2 hour journey with Mor Wen, pulling you into uncharted territories, home of her own.

Snake charmer born and located in Thailand with Indian and Japanese roots. Co-founder of Siamese Twins record label focusing on psychedelic sounds rooted in Asia. Co-runs the Karma Klique collective known for raves at obscure locations. As a producer he released on imprints such as 禁 JIN, Love on the Rocks, Ute and Siamese Twins under his own name, Mogambo and Khun Fluff aliases. As well as periodic ambient albums on his own Extans Mantra imprint. Which led to sought-after collaborations with Full Circle, Yu Su, S.O.N.S, Marc Pinol and Benedikt Frey. A household name across the region for over a decade playing spaced out music in forests, warehouses, and castles.

MIX011 - Sunju Hargun (曼谷)

As one of the forces behind @ute-rec and one half of Accelerationism, Oslo based DJ, promoter and label head @mariusbo’s singular, trance-infused sound feels both fresh and profoundly nostalgic. 

Starting in 2017 with highly curated open air raves in his native Norway as part of the Uteklubb collective, both Marius and the group have continued to evolve, with the inception of their Ute Rec imprint in 2019 representing the fruition of the group's distinctive sound aesthetic. A string of influential releases from @oprofessionell, The Dosadi Experiments and @mikkel-rev, alongside the high-profile Accelerationism CDs that have seen them collaborate with the likes of @alpha-tracks-official, @s-o-n-s and @sunjuhargun, plus a VA fundraiser alongside @amniote-editions have helped Marius and Ute Rec to quickly garner a global audience, giving them a platform to share their unique vision of psychedelic contemporary trance.

Hitting like a deep, rejuvenating breath in the open air, Marius' Patterns of Perception 92 is a pulsating, private moment for emotions and reflections to cascade and flow. 
Evoking the serene, iridescent embrace of the chill-out room, this mix floats weightlessly in the aether between psychedelic downtempo and ambient trance -  a shimmering assembly of textures and inspirations, both new and old. It is a space for closed eyes, kaleidoscopic perception and slow heart rates - a tonic for the mind, body and soul.

Patterns of Perception 92 - Marius Bø

Hailing from Holland’s West Coast, JEANS is a powerhouse behind the decks with an uncanny ability to commandeer the dance floor with his characteristic free-flowing style. Anything goes and nothing is what it seems as he rifles through his audacious selections while manipulating the pitch faders in every which way. Nobody’s safe from the ‘Ice Cream Man’ when he gets going like an unstoppable train laying down face melting bass blasters, techno bangers, breakbeat filth, vivid trance and anything else that gets the job done. However, don’t be fooled by his mischievous smile because he’s got a tender side too and when you least expect it, he will drop some cosmic ambient or laid-back dub reggae on you and it will be exactly what you need at that moment.

Emerging from The Hague’s hardcore and jungle scene with a deep love for Memphis-rap, Dub and Raggamuffin, JEANS ultimately expanded into the realms of tekno, techno, breakbeat, psy, goa and electro but stays noticeably true to his roots in his sets. His tenacity to push the limits and willingness to challenge the crowd has gained him widespread praise, a residency at Het Magazijn and the role of head booker at PIP Den Haag. He spends his downtime jamming on drum machines and producing in his studio and he raised his own label named 'Oracle Bones' which is inspired by books of the the I Ching.
With a tongue-in-cheek attitude and always on the grind, JEANS is not to be underestimated.

31 Years of Clone Records: Sonic Transmutations Box Set and Club Night at Tresor

The Sonic Transmutations compilation features 33 artists in total and will be released as a limited edition box set in September 2023. 
 
Announced in tandem with a club night hosted by Berlin’s Tresor on 28 May, Sonic Transmutations is an extended compilation album celebrating over three decades of Clone Records. Marking the 31 years – which is coincidentally the national Dutch telephone code – the 8x12 inch box set draws together veteran talent and emerging iconoclasts, transmitting a frequency rooted the imprint’s signature blend of essential dance music while journeying off into territories unknown. In a constant state of unfolding, morphing across phases of matter, Sonic Transmutations purveys an elemental energy that stands in testament to Clone’s enduring legacy and explorations of sounds and structures.
 
New recruit Alberta Balsam opens up the A side with ‘Anthem’, a synth-heavy medley that encapsulates her tech-savvy approach and impressive repertoire of vintage hardware. Next up, Alden Tyrell, also known under the moniker of A Visitor From Another Meaning, supplies a ride-or-die accolade to Detroit, partnering a wigged-out drum machine with eerie distortion. Frankfurt’s electro figurehead Anthony Rother follows on, landing hard with a fuzzy bassline and threateningly slick high-hats, before Dopplereffekt – the legendary duo Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan – programme a moody space jam full of roving chords and jagged harmonics. His first track since 2017, Dexter’s ‘Pumapunku’ provides a punchy, breakdance twist on 808 beat patterns and DJ Sotofett’s ‘Bachi’ is wondrously weird reimagining of electro’s funk groove. E.R.P.’s ‘Ugly Pretty June’ contrasts dreamy atmospheres with banging drive and, between these stalwart names, emerges Dim Garden, a producer redefining raw electronics, amalgamating minimal wave with noisy industrial and gothic folklore.
 
Since its inception, Clone has sought out uncompromising sonic encounters. In 1992, founder Serge put out the inaugural release under his Orx moniker, which soon led to further productions, as well as the first iterations of the record store and mail order. Forging close ties with an international community of like-minds – especially those in the burgeoning US dance renaissance – as well as the flourishing Dutch scene, took precedence. This rich heritage resonates on Sonic Transmutations. From the insistently infectious ‘Get to It’ by Detroit In Effect, a longstanding Clone mainstay, to the tripped-out melodies of Legowelt, the pioneering West Coast producer, the record pays tribute to a thriving network of DIY creativity that has transgressed epochs. 
 
Raw and rugged, Rotterdam’s own Lenson delivers a homage to underground parties in the harbour city, concocting a potent warehouse stomper, while Mr. Ho unleashes a transfixing techno-poem featuring artist and spiritual teacher Gedvile Bunikyte. The latter half of Sonic Transmutations switches into a darker, nocturnal mode, oscillating with peak-time club momentum. Built around a swing beat, Finland 's Aleksi Perälä, A.K.A ovuca, dexterously moves between light and shadow, preceded by PRZ’s new wave-flavoured ‘It’s Time’. Crescendoing with epic sibilance, Sansibar collides heavy-duty bass with psychedelic, echoing vocals on ‘Connect’ before Panorama Bar resident Steffi’s ‘50 Heads’, a stuttering rhythmic workout, closes off.

Our next podcast guest does not even need an introduction, meaning, if you know you know, that @Plant43 is a living legend within the musical world.

Inspired by Kraftwerk in the early 80′s Emile Facey was hooked on electro from an early age.

In 1998 he got involved with promoting electro events in London and soon after started writing music as Plant43. His first vinyl release came in 2006 on the much-missed Ai Records. Several 12’s and the well-received “Burning Decay” album in 2010 alongside other releases on Semantica Records, AC Records (acidlab.de), Bleep43 Recordings and Cultivated Electronics have highlighted his singular and ambiguous style of sinewy electro that draws deep from the influence of Drexciya. Emile is also graphic designer and co-founder of bleep43.com, which is dedicated to promoting and reviewing electronic music. Since 2003, the London based Bleep43 parties have seen him play live alongside such acts as ERP, DJ Stingray, Surgeon, $tinkworx, Microthol, Urban Tribe and many more.

efja is a multiform electronics imprint operated by lunar convoy. This new endeavor will mainly focus on the experimental & abstract side of things, with a healthy dose of psychotropism.
Man of many trades, lunar convoy has been on the forefront of Brussels club scene since 2015, with regular appearances at C12 and Fuse and his event series Metropolis (co-founder). He’s also co-running a successful deep techno label called NORITE. However with efja, he has set to steer away from any conservative club structures and instead embrace the odd and uncertain.

Soon he would delve into new styles such as garage, techno, breakbeat, goa, and electro, but as you can hear throughout this mix, what makes JEANS so uniquely raw, is his the way he stays true to his roots. 

Alongside his exceptional record collection, JEANS has a refreshing willingness to challenge and push the limits of a crowd. This soon gained him widespread praise, and has seen him take on a residency at Het Magazijn, and the role of head booker at both Whoosah and PIP. 

In 2018 JEANS' breakout EP ‘LUL GEEN KALMTE’ on Who’s Susan lit up clubs and sunny festivals alike. Recently we have also been graced with JEANS' addition to a recent Who's Susan VA, alongside a brilliant EP with Younger Than Me on Bar Records. 

Through this hour and a half long mix, JEANS does what he is known to do best. Seamlessly guiding us through the genres that are driving him to wreak havoc on dancefloors and inspire some truly incredible releases.
