"The Gladiators have been masters of the #reggae arena for the past 30 years. After the rise and fall of many reggae artists and bands, they remain one of the most influential reggae groups to date. The group's original leader, #AlbertGriffiths, formed the legendary band - whose name was suggested to him on a bus by a fellow traveller who had just seen the movie "Ben Hur." The concept of men who fought for their liberty against #Babylon immediately struck a chord with Albert and remains a testament today of the difficult life and struggle of #Jamaica."

"Linton Kwesi Johnson was born on 24 August 1952 in Chapelton, a small town in the rural parish of #Clarendon, Jamaica. He came to London in 1963, went to Tulse Hill secondary school and later studied Sociology at Goldsmiths’ College, University of London. Whilst still at school he joined the Black Panthers, helped to organise a poetry workshop within the movement and developed his work with #Rasta Love, a group of poets and drummers. In 1977 he was awarded a C Day Lewis Fellowship, becoming the writer-in-residence for the London Borough of Lambeth for that year. He went on to work as the Library Resources and Education Officer at the Keskidee Centre, the first home of Black theatre and art."

"#Mutabaruka (formerly #AllanHope) was born in Rae Town, #Kingston on 26th December, 1952. After primary education he attended Kingston Technical High School, where he was a student for four years. Trained in Electronics, he left his first job after about six months and took employment at the Jamaica Telephone Company Limited. During his time at the Telephone Company he began to examine Rastafarianism and to find it more meaningful than either the Roman Catholicism of his upbringing or the political radicalism into which he had drifted."
