The bass sparked the humming of the floorboards, and the urgency to create. Soon after, award-winning Austin-based duo, Riders Against The Storm (RAS) took pen to pad, and finger to touch-screen to express gratitude for IBEYI’s soulful anthem “River.” IBEYI’s haunting international hit is the foundation of RAS’ latest track. Contributing their own flavor and connecting their own meaning to the original, Chaka opens the song by celebrating the restorative power of the female, and calling for a prayer to bring healing, while Qi Dada focuses on the enchanting and alluring aspects of the river as a source of creation. As depicted in the single’s artwork, RAS approached the collaboration not merely as a remix, but as a reflection.

Austin husband-wife hip hop duo, Riders Against the Storm (RAS), are back at it again with a re-interpretation of the 80's Talking Heads classic, Once In A Lifetime.  Their 2018 rendition is called 'Same,' taking the popular phrase on a slightly tongue-in-cheek and reflective turn for the best.  Witty and whimsical, yet grounded and real, the song and video both throwback, and catapult listeners forward simultaneously as only RAS can.

We originally recorded this song in Providence, RI for our 'Speak The Truth' album (2008).  The album was released in 2009, after the title track won an award for Songwriting from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.  At this time, Chaka, was known as 'Jbro' (as you hear in his second verse), and Qi Dada, was better known as 'Tiger Lily.'

We feel the lyrics are as relevant today as they were in 2008, and we are overjoyed to continue our work with the multi-talented producer Ayuma, aka Blaigne Ayuma Sixon.  His house twist to the original is really contagious.  Enjoy!

(RAS) Riders Against the Storm is a musical movement in Austin, TX that can only be described as 'historic.' As recent recipients of 'Band of the Year' honors at the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Austin Music Awards, Chaka and Qi Dada (husband and wife) represent a significant first in the 'Live Music Capital.' Over the past 32 years, hip hop has never received the top honor at the annual awards show. Winning the title twice in a row is an accomplishment shared by only a handful of bands, including: Spoon, and Los Lonely Boys.

As comfortable in small intimate venues as they are on large festival stages, RAS transforms every audience they reach with a refreshing magic and flair that few possess today. In everything they touch, ceremony scrapes the floor and atmosphere - hopping through, from seam to seam, cloaked in their own ideas of regalia and change, Riders Against the Storm cast out invitations to world - come and party. From beginning to end, audiences need to get ready for what Deborah Senguptah Stith (Austin American Statesman music writer) calls a 'post-milennial second-coming of George Clinton's mothership.'

Aside from headlining many shows throughout the country, RAS has opened for national recording acts, including: K'Naan, KRS-ONE, Wu-Tang Clan, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Slick Rick, Pharoahe Monch, Dam Funk, Nas, Rakim, Damian Marley, ?uestlove (of The Roots), Jean Grae, Antibalas, Devin the Dude, The Coup, Michael Franti, Dead Prez, The Geto Boys, George Clinton, and Kid Sister.
