It's a rock version of 'White army and black Baron' or 'The Red Army is the Strongest' which is a marching song written by 'Pavel Grigorievich Gorinshtejn' (1895–1961, a.k.a. Pavel Gorin, Pavel Grigoriev) and composed by Samuil Pokrass (1897–1939) in 1920 During the Russian Civil War (1917-1922). The immediate context of the song is the final Crimean offensive in the Russian Civil War by Pyotr Wrangel's troops in July 1920. The second verse refers to the call to a final effort in the Crimea published by the Revolutionary Military Council in Pravda on 10 July. While the song has a separate refrain, the verses repeat the claim that "The Red Army is stronger than all", which came to be the song's conventional title. he song was first printed in 1925, and subsequently published under the titles of От тайги до британских морей ("From the Taiga to the British Seas"), Красная Армия ("Red Army") and Красноармейская ("[Song] of the Red Army"). It was not until 1937 that the conventional title had settled on Красная Армия всех сильней ("The Red Army is the Strongest"). During the 1920s to 1940s, the song was reproduced without indication of its authors. It was only in the 1950s that musicologist A. Shilov established the authorship of Gorinshtejn and Pokrass.

Żurawiejki rozpowszechniły się w Wojsku Polskim w okresie II Rzeczypospolitej po wojnie polsko-bolszewickiej 1920 roku w nawiązaniu do tradycji kawalerii rosyjskiej. Polskie korzenie żurawiejek upatruje się także w „Jak to na wojence ładnie” z roku 1863. Jedną z pierwszych pieśni wpisujących się także w tę tradycję jest legionowa „Pieśń Szwadronu Wąsowicza” z I wojny światowej opisująca szarżę pod Rokitną prowadzoną przez rotmistrza Zbigniewa Wąsowicza jaka miała miejsce w czerwcu 1915 roku. Żurawiejki nie miały charakteru pieśni masowo śpiewanych przez żołnierzy jednostek kawaleryjskich. Nie śpiewali ich podoficerowie czy szeregowcy. Były one układane przez oficerów pułków kawaleryjskich na inne pułki i śpiewane przez oficerów podczas towarzyskich spotkań z kieliszkiem w ręku. Z tej przyczyny często przybierały charakter złośliwych docinków o frywolnym, a niekiedy nawet wulgarnym charakterze i dlatego piosenki te śpiewane były jedynie przez oficerów w swoim własnym towarzystwie z obowiązującym zakazem śpiewania ich w obecności pań. Początkowo swoją żurawiejkę miał każdy pułk ułanów. Tradycję tę przejęły również pułki strzelców konnych chociaż jak głosiła jedna ze strof „Prawdę mówiąc między nami – strzelcy nie są ułanami”. Znane są także przykłady żurawiejek innych rodzajów wojsk: piechoty, artylerii, jednostek pancernych, marynarki wojennej czy lotnictwa.

Following the Polish–Soviet War, the couplets quickly gained popularity among cavalry regiments of the Polish Army. Some historians trace back Polish żurawiejkas to the “Uhlan March”, written in 1863, during the January Uprising. Furthermore, during World War I, soldiers of the Polish Legions sang the “Song of Wasowicz’s Squadron”, which described a cavalry charge during the Charge of Rokitna (13 June 1915), led by rotmistrz Zbigniew Dunin-Wasowicz. Originally, every uhlan regiment of the Polish Army had its żurawiejka. Later on, the tradition was adopted by regiments of mounted rifles - even though, as one couplet said: “To tell the truth among ourselves - riflemen are not uhlans” (“Prawdę mówiąc między nami – strzelcy nie są ułanami"). Furthermore, there were żurawiejkas of units of infantry, artillery, armored troops, navy and airforce.
