The main theme from the 1983 Japanese movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto) is well-known for its nostalgic, magical atmosphere.

It's also so ubiquitous that many people find it very familiar, and know they've heard it once somewhere, without knowing when or how.
Sometimes people realise that the Path of the Wind from Totoro (composed by Hisaishi) is the one piece they know that sounds most similar… but the truth is that a lot anime, game and visual novel themes share a similar composition.

This mix contains 50 minutes of music themes from anime, visual novels and games which share just that atmosphere, starting with Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence itself. I hope you enjoy it~~☆

Hey there, I'm Rastagong!

It's hard to describe what I most listen to. Jazz has kind of been my “home” genre for years, and though I've drifted away, it still influences much of what I like.

On here, I tend to listen mostly to video game music from all kinds.

Game soundtracks I particularly like include Umineko When They Cry, Yume Nikki, Touhou, VA-11 HALL-A. I also enjoy Shinji Hosoe's work, RAITO's, and a bunch of other composers' work from games I never played.

I tend to like anything with Gothic or mysterious aesthetics.
My latest obsession is with the Dream Pop and shoegaze genres, particularly the work of the Cocteau Twins!
