A Slice of Strawberry Shortcake is an amalgamation of flavors, boasting femme and gender nonconforming heavyweights spattered across the US and one artist from Iran. Each track delivers distinct punches: from nextdimensional’s bass-heavy ethereal dreamscape to ROW92’s melodic drum and bass hellscape. JIALING takes us for a ride on a megabus careening down I95 and Zvrra’s Japanese video-game-inspired track Leap, draws on FM synthesis and an enemy boss encounter. As the first compilation album released by Banana Pudding Records, A Slice of Strawberry Shortcake presses that queer and femme artists are fundamental to the bourgeoning electronic scene.

Brooklyn-based producer and DJ nextdimensional has been releasing her wavy, ethereal beats into the world since 2019. She's best known for founding the Lucid Dream party & Lucid Radio radio series in Brooklyn, as well as repeat appearances on platforms such as The Lot Radio, NTS, and Roland. She draws inspiration from youth culture, psychedelia, cyber art, and growing up in the USA's coldest major city.

nextdimensional (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based DJ and producer whose style fuses fast, entrancing club sounds with dreamlike electronic soundscapes. Her viral party series SECRET in 2021 led to sold-out shows at several Brooklyn mainstays and appearances on internationally-renowned radio music series like NTS, The Lot Radio, and Roland. Currently she runs the “Lucid Dream” party series, a monthly dance night centering women & LGBTQ+ talent, as well as the up-and-coming Lucid Radio mix series.

“This mix is split into 3 chapters, each exploring a different time period in my evolution as a DJ. The opening sample contains audio from a self-guided hypnosis tape circa the 1960’s, which brings the listener into a comfortable trance and returns between chapters to send us deeper. Chapter 1 is an ode to my early DJ days - an obsession with lofi house and a fear of venturing beyond 130bpm. Chapter 2 marks my descent into the club music wormhole: genre-bending rhythms, a melange of cheeky edits, and exploring faster bpms. Finally, the 3rd chapter marks my current gravitation towards breaks & bass music. Hope you enjoy - thanks for listening and thank you XOXA for having me!
