Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @tapefeed for its thirty sixth episode of Amplify Series.

Tapefeed is an electronic music project realised out of a collaboration from two Italian artists, Alessandro Boni and Rick Vayo. Currently based in London and Berlin.

The duo’s sounds encompass a rich array of styles from techno to experimental, raw percussion to 4/4 all whilst continuing to preserve their love of distinctive and powerful broken-beat grooves.

From their Superstition residency at Village Underground to sharing the decks with techno leviathans Jeff Mills, Tommy Four Seven, Paula Temple, Perc, I Hate Models and more, Tapefeed have been forging a path undeviatingly on the international techno scene over the last few years and have now become the new Fabric residents in 2021.

Together with an accumulation of releases on labels Mord, Metempsychosis and Abyss, Tapefeed have freshly launched their new imprint “Inveterate” to focus on the duo’s archetypal sound and vision. Their first release “Revolving door” is a furious and forward-thinking 5-track EP, which unites their ethical beliefs with the energy of protest against an elitist society. By inviting producers to break the rules and explore the fringes of their artistic extremities/limits/frontiers, Inveterate aims to scale the perimeters of techno with fresh, anarchic and unexpected elements.

@sharu's next EP lands on @inveterate on September 2 combining three original tracks and a remix from @tapefeed.

The lead track, 'V.O.I.D.', tells the story of the flight that the group took earlier in the year where they started to face severe turbulence and noticed bright flashes outside the window - it seemed to be the originating point of a storm. The track reflects the intensity of this fear through a distorted bassline and dynamic breaks - all wrapped together in a furious four-minute ensemble.

NYC’s Sha Ru heads to Tapefeed’s Inveterate Records for a new club-focused EP which channels their experiences of overcoming the fear while the band is exploring singing in English. The intensity of this fear is showcased on ‘Moi’ as it continues to build in tension over the course of the track whilst the vocal comes in and out of focus. 

Comprised of Ma Sha and Rù, the pair live and work together between NYC and Berlin. Masha is the founder behind the much-loved label and party series Kindergarten Records who we’ve featured quite regularly on the site. Between them they’ve released music via Infinite Machine, Pressure Dome, Sorry Records, Shubzin and Progressive Future.

“V.O.I.D.” EP by Sha Ru showcases fresh artistic angles since their previous releases. The three club-focused tracks cover personal experiences of overcoming fear while the band is exploring singing in english. The lead track “V.O.I.D.” tells the story of the flight that the band took earlier in the year where they started to face severe turbulence and noticed bright flashes outside the window. it seemed to be the originating point of a storm. The sounds in the track reflect the intensity of this fear through the distorted bassline and the dynamic break of the dnb section of the song.

“Hover” describes a different kind of fear. that type of fear that only your mind processes. The lyrics cover the situation in which two people have different points of views on something they strongly believe in. They both try to prove their point to each other, but they’re both stubborn and the atmosphere feels “Numb”. Nevertheless, the two also want to solve the conflict, and they start to communicate transparently. The sonic atmosphere of the track is the least aggressive on the EP since the climate of this kind of fear is the most complex as it involves multiple people who are afraid of the conflict outcome. The last track on the release “Moi” takes a different approach to narrate the generic sense of fear. The sonic palette translates a consistent increase in the energy, just like the fear that slowly intensifies in your mind and body that then suddenly controls you fully. This is represented by the growing synth in the middle of the track and the percussions that keep up the tension across the chronicle of the song.
