Alpha 606 Remixed for 2016 on Interdimensional Transmissions, with a visionary remix from Anthony “Shake” Shakir, a secret dance floor anthem that works in almost any context from BMG and a beautiful spaced out take on “Electronic Flotation Device” by Erika. This was the last record mastered by Mark Richardson at Prairie Cat Mastering. All tunes from the lost Alpha 606 LP “Afto-Cuban Electronics”.

In 2008, IT signed Miami based electronic musician & live percussionist Armando Martinez, best known as Alpha 606. Born in Miami to Cuban immigrants, he is a multitalented multi instrumentalist. His innovation is in blending the varied history of Electro, 20th Century Avant Garde and his native Cuban influences, ranging from the ritual music of Santeria to the Afro Cuban highs of 1930's Havana. With this stew of influences, he creates a dense and colorful sound, melding advanced electronics with intricately played live hand drums. His style is the definition of a new sound, known as Electrónica Afro-Cubano.

17th November sees Curle Recordings favourites Hiver return to the Belgian label for the release of their latest EP, entitled ‘Air Castles’.

Since making their debut on the imprint in 2013 with ‘Blue Aconite’, the Italian duo has since released two more EPs on Curle; ‘Same Mistake Twice’ in 2015 and ‘Soundescence’ last year. Since the release of the latter mentioned EP, Hiver have been busy behind the booth, performing in the UK, China, Germany, Holland and, of course, in Italy, where they still hold a residency at DUDE Club.

Kicking off the EP is ‘Elipse’, a stunning four-minute track that nods to avant-garde artists such as Wolfgang Voigt’s GAS alias or Brian Eno, as the pair gradually weaves several layers of shining, atmospheric tones before slowly fading into the background.

Title-named track ‘Air Castles’ follows, with the tight selection of drums combined with the ebb and flow of soaring synths creating a melodic style of techno that has become synonymous with their name.

Next is ‘Aleutine’, a song that similarly blends Hiver’s characteristically ethereal, hazy synths alongside more vibrant analogue bleeps to great effect. These delicate synths are later given the chance to gleam as the track comes to a close.

Closing this excellent four-track EP is deep-groover ‘Leisure’, seeing Hiver up the tempo through their clever use of percussive elements, sharp synths and headstrong drums.

‘Air Castles’ EP is available on November 17th on 12” and digitally.

The old building sat perched atop the hillside looking out upon the small town below. It had stood, watching, overlooking for what had been a lifetime. Inside great things had happened, people had come and gone. The bells chimed out each weekend but not for very long. Birds whizzed around the tall towers, their wings soared upon the morning air, deep down below the dense green mist glimmered and lingered in the light of the early sun as another day approached. The house stood still. 

Aleksei Nikitin is set to release a new EP on UNDERTHESEA, a record label with an enticing tropical aesthetic but rugged undertones. The EP is a collection of abstract techno, rugged yet beautiful at the same time. It comes complete with a remix from Daniël Jacques, a producer of which we have been a fan for many years.
