The mountain peaks were covered in a deep haze, the clouds had returned. In the village below they looked upwards towards the snow glazed peaks, soon they would begin their walk towards the rocky crevasse. The glacier was melting quickly, this was far from paradise. The tour guide Mousso would hopefully lead them to safety but there was little certainty amidst the ranks at present. She packed her gear away and held her breath attempting to reconcile her fate.

Speaking volumes through it’s use of space, silence and texture, the A side is as deep as they come. Simultaneously dark and beautiful, subtle yet grand, ‘A’ is an exquisite seven minute journey crafted with the early hours in mind. Rather than exciting through rises and drops or tricks in arrangement, ’A’ blooms like a flower, patiently unveiling a palette of meticulous sound design and gorgeous texture. As it treads a fine line between meditation and club functionality, ‘A’ charms and captivates.



As pads ebb and flow, a seemingly simple loop takes on a deeper meaning, each hit of a rimshot more satisfying than the one before it. Every element occupies a space of it’s own, and not a single sound is squandered. When a single hi-hat arrives, bringing with it momentum and drive, and arpeggios unfurl in a glistening banquet of sound, ‘A’ becomes truly epic. A beautiful exercise in restraint and subtlety, ‘A’ is one to move every body and touch every soul on the dance floor.

Those of you that have been following my work over the past years know that I am big fan of the art of editing, both, digging for and playing the edits of others and manufacturing them myself. Besides the many ones that have been released officially I made countless ones in the past years just to enhance my sets. Doing edits is simply a lot of fun, its a similar approach to remixing but yet different. There are no limits, from just editing tracks (in the literal sense) to make them longer (or shorter), DJ friendlier, or mash an instrumental of one track together with an acapella from another one to building up a complete new production and arrangement around an acapella or an instrumental, there are no limits to re-interpret the respected work of others. Today I decided to start sharing these works with you. I start today out with an edit that uses the elements of Kraftwerk’s “It’s More Fun To Compute“ and the vocals of Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force’s “Planet Rock” and put them over a rocking Electro beat. We're delighted to announce the return of the vinyl-only Substance Select! Volume 2 in the series, sees SWS turn its attention to Bella Technika...

Born out of the ashes of Darkwood Dub, one of the Balkans’ most revered alternative rock bands during the ‘90s/’00s, Bella Technika is the latest project of Bojan Drobac, the group’s guitarist and main songwriter. Joined by former bandmate bass player Milorad Ristić as well as opera singer Katarina Jovanovic, amongst others, Bojan has found a new direction with Bella Technika.

Bella Technika join forces with Super Weird Substance for Substance Select Vol.2, which features three remixes and an original production from the band’s debut ‘Section’ LP, released last year.

Lee Perry AKA Peza, true to form, has provided a jacking, acid fuelled reimagining of ‘I Feel Light’. Alongside Sara Lucas’ primal vocal it evokes the halcyon days of house music.
