Selfless On The Loop

Another really fun collab with the legendary @TexMex-Shaman!

I'll often sketch out music ideas and compose midi melodies on the ipad as a first step, but took a different approach and constructed this one entirely in Ableton Live which I have been transitioning more of my process to lately.

After building the foundation I sent it to Stephen and he added some suuuper creative guitar parts that really build the atmosphere and take it to a whole other level. Very happy how this came out, hope you'll enjoy it!

Primeval (a Texas Tea production) - w/ TexMex Shaman

Hey…. Did this song go in so many directions until this final recording. It started as an electric slide song, then a mandolin song, and finally as an acoustic guitar/recorder song. You know I laugh every time I play recorder. Just imagine a rough and scrappy, wild old man creating such a thing. Hahahahaha. Anyway, there are a lot of crows here. When I was working on the slide version, I heard them cawing outside as they flew by. (I scrapped my impromptu birdcall crowing on this, no one needs to hear that, not even the crows.) Lyrically the song has 2 distinct moods with some vocal transitioning. And guess what folks: As a novice singer, I can finally vibrato my voice… some more shenanigans you’ll have to put up with. Back to the crows. In town, we have a huge flock (murder) of town crows. Hundreds. They sure love fast food, and hanging out by the high school where tasty, tossed tidbits can be had. They are organized too, as if in an air force, as they are mostly wary of us humans… Finally, happy holidays to all who celebrate, and happy times to everyone else. Hope you enjoy this one. the first part were compsed by two midi sequences written during the functional tests of an elektron octatrack mkII 
the sequences were subsequently rearranged from their original form and assigned to four different patches created with phase plant

Dark Fontin - Variations on a Dream

Seven improvisations on a tenor saxophone, mixed to feature one main central improv and 6 interjecting horns spaced across the mix. Improvs were recorded over 3 days and were timed to the same length.
Moog synthesizer accompanies the mix.

After Heraklit*, this is the second soundscape made with a polyend tracker - a device  I like to refer to as a digital punchcard machine. The reasons for this naming choice are obvious to anyone old enough to remember actual punchcards.

Garageband loops and my vocals 

Yeah I'm a cheeseball lol whatever. I'm going through some difficult stuff and maintaining mental well-being with music as one of my medicines. I'm not a traditional songwriter - I don't always go back into specific song structures - like there's no chorus in this because I literally just don't care right now lol - I just like to jam because it makes me happy and I use the lyrics to keep me centered. The lyrics in this song are about choosing to stay grateful in life even when it's getting you down - and finding what fills you with wonder and choosing to hold onto that while walking through the temporary icky parts of life. My soul feels more resilient when filled with wonder - and I'm filled with wonder every time I see the sunset for example - so - I'll be checking out the sunset to walk with wonder towards a life with more clarity and contentment. I'm gonna walk through the shadows with you (with wonder).
