Episode 96: Eternal Forms (Anniversary Special)

We welcome Canadian producer Chris Komus to focus on his micro and macrocosmic psychedelic bass soundscapes with a short talk before his radiOzora mix.

With a flair for being somewhat off in left field, Chris Komus’s self-titled project is molded from the sounds of psydub, psybient, glitch hop, brokenbeats, and world bass. Dubby percussion and hyper-edited basslines are mixed with laser precision, combined with symphonic, ancient, eastern, ethnic, and sometimes melancholic or bluesy influenced melodies. Sometimes morphing between genres, every track is like a cinematic score, with orchestral elements and symphonic builds intertwined with futuristic psychedelic sounds and sound design. Chris Komus's project always strives to be thoughtful and articulate, continually exploring the boundaries of psychedelic music, yet always remain dialed in to the low-end frequencies with heavy hitting kicks and basslines.

Chris Komus has just recently release a psydub track on Shanti Planti's new compilation, "Rhythm Code 2", with a new full length release coming soon to Shanti Planti. Other recent releases include an EP with Black Tuna Recordings, "Chamber of Goonbags", that features explorations into midtempo bass and drum & bass, as well as a remix of Ghost Twin's "Mystic Sabbath" into an epic future bass track.

He has also released two EPs on Adapted Records, "Laurentian Plateau EP" and "The Thrill EP", as well as two EPs with Enig'Matik Records,"Cordyceps EP" and "Everything Started to Go Apart EP", and an appearance on the compilation "Painting Pictures on Silence Vol 2". "Devil's Thrill" and a remix of Mad Young Darling's "Paraben Paraphernalia" broke into the Top 25 of Beatport's Glitch Hop Top 100. "Cordyceps EP" hit #2 on the top Monthly charts on Addictech, with a front page featured release, and peaked at #27 on the Beatport Glitch Hop Releases chart. He also collaborated with Mr. Bill on his wildly successful Collaborative Endeavor series as well as a remix for Mustard Tiger. Chris Komus also contributed sound design with Enig'Matik Records to Twisted Tool's plugin Ultraloop. Chris Komus has also released on 3l3Mental Records, Betamorph Recordings, Monkey Dub Recordings, Sundance Records, Noitekk, Communique, and more.

Chris Komus has had the thrill of playing many great festivals including: Envision Festival (Costa Rica), Infrasound Festival (US), Shambhala Music Festival (Can), Burning Man (US), Motion Notion (Can), Connect Festival (Can), and Entheos Gathering (can) as well as a tour in Australian and performances in Costa Rica. He has also performed in cities across Canada and has made appearances in the US.

Under the side project and alter-ego of Lo Progression, he diverges into the realm of bouncy progressive psytrance with groovy rubbery and rolling basslines, intertwined with dark melodies, ghostly pads, and a mood of enigma.

The Project starts as a three-headed Psytrance-Liveact launching in the mid-'90s, performing at several german Goa/Psytrance Parties and open airs. Their first single appears in 2001 called "Dua Orang", initiating a view releases on various compilations. In 2005 Spiritual Beings Records released the album "Groom Mountains" produced by Marcus which primary contains Psytrance, but also Tara Putra's first Ambient, Chillout and Dub tracks. The EP "Hidden Sense" pops up in 2010. This displays the projects future development with Psybient and Psydub - Creating space and psychedelic atmospheres in a dubby ambience.
