Earlier this year, Japanese artist Yunosuke Senoo, aka Lycoriscoris, released his new album ‘Chiyu’ (治癒). The album gained support from tastemaker stations including BBC Radio 1 and Sirius XM and producers including Eelke Kleijn, Nick Warren, Joris Voorn and Hernán Cattáneo. Now, Anjunadeep presents two fresh remixes from label stalwart Jon Gurd and German producer Ulrich Schnauss. 

A highly-respected electronic composer, Ulrich Schnauss marks his Anjunadeep debut with his remix of ‘Shirabe’ (調べ). Incorporating distorted percussion with ambient synths, Schnauss demonstrates his renowned production techniques that have seen him release on Domino and Kompakt, and remix artists including Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and Todd Terje.

Jon Gurd stamps his mark on ‘Inori’ (祈り), blending his signature bold basslines with the intertwining melodies of the original. Gurd’s latest reaffirms why he’s been supported by the likes of Solomun, Stephen Bodzin, Alan Fitzpatrick, Adriatique, Gorgon City, and Shadow Child.

The artist on everyone's lips at the moment, Justin Marchacos, joins the solid release series of Desert Hearts Black this year with three heavy hitting tunes. "Hara EP" is his much anticipated return to the label after his last release "Indelible EP" was played on dance floors all across the globe by artists such as Gai Barone, Richie Hawtin and Eelke Kleijn. Following up on this he serves us three dance floor oriented tracks, again showcasing his excellent skills as a producer and eclectic soundscaper. "Hara" starts our journey into the night with dynamically evolving synths accompanied by a raw melody and phat bassline. The futuristic atmosphere plays along a catchy groove, leading us into a powerful drop. In "Obsession", Justin merges a playful synth with dreamy sweeps and on point drum work, keeping a beautiful balance between darkness and light while keeping the energy level high. Last but not least, "The Core" takes center stage. Justin ensures we get a thrilling closure to this space-infused trip, cooking up a slightly more hypnotic groove for the finale. Massive layers of melodies ebb and flow, building tension in an electrifying way, countered by a twist in the scenery where Justin serves us a little breaky affair with deeper flavours.

Continuing the journey started with her debut transmission for Stil vor Talent ('Under Water', 2022), Frankfurt am Main-based producer and vocalist Avis Vox returns with her sophomore single, '1000 Bites'. Born from that heartfelt desire to free herself from any restrictions, this second transmission is in her own words "emotionally complex but incredibly honest", and while taking cues from personal stances and experiences, definitely bears the stamp of Avis Vox's aspiration to "be open and fearless" with the two tracks doing more than just live up to that motto.

A blazing ode to resistance in all its forms, inspired by the many situations in which the weak stand up against large-scale, oppressive systems of all sorts, the lead-track '1000 Bites' unleashes a frenzied cavalcade of Italo-style arpeggios and spiralling synths gone mad, as sizzling freq shifts and cavernous echoes slash and bang with gut-churning brutality, whereas Avis Vox's vocals spur us to unshackle from the chains that hold us back. 'Lost and Lonely' is the epitome of a hi-intensity pumper with its steroid-fueled build-up stacking up maximal levels of tension as bars roll by, giving the drop all its hectic power of dance floor submersion. Muscling in at full send, the relatively stripped-down palette of raucous bass swirls, FX-drenched thunder and Vox's call to emancipate reveals omnipotent and unfurls across the room like a nemesis of contained rage and pure redemptive energy, sure to break upon the ravers with no-holds-barred fury.

Japanese artist Yunosuke Senoo, aka Lycoriscoris, returns to Anjunadeep with the announcement of his upcoming album 'Chiyu', out March 26. 

In recent years, Senoo has built a cult following as part of a new wave of Japanese producers. His signature blend of organic melodies with intricate sound design have won him support from the likes of DJ Koze, Michael Mayer, &ME and BBC Radio 1’s Phil Taggart. A multi-instrumentalist, Senoo has played live alongside the likes of The Field and Moritz Von Oswald at Tokyo’s legendary Dommune. 

Composed throughout 2020, 'Chiyu' documents Senoo’s journey of reflection and recovery.  

“Memories and retrospection are the fundamental concept that inspire my music. For instance, my own artist name plays on the name of the Lycoris flower. In Japan, it's often found near cemeteries, which is of course a dark connotation - however one day when searching in the Language of Flowers (Floriography) I discovered that the word Lycoris also means “I’m looking forward to seeing you again”. 

I realised how this dark flower also hides a beautiful and positive message. I think my music, and my new album ‘Chiyu’, has the same kind of dualism as the Lycoris flower.”

With influences ranging from Boards of Canada and Christian Löffler, Senoo showcases his delicate production style over the 9 tracks of ‘Chiyu’. From the intertwining melodies in ‘Shizumu’ to the polyrhythmic textures of ‘Utsurou', Seeno combines dreamy soundscapes with modern electronica. A skilled photographer, Senoo also provides the imagery for the album artwork shot in his native, Japan.

Senoo’s new album follows the release of his acclaimed LP ‘Flight’, released on Anjunadeep in 2018. Positioning in the top 5 Electronic albums on iTunes, 'Flight' gained support on tastemaker stations including BBC Radio 1, KEXP and NTS Radio as well as international press support.

‘Chiyu’ is available March 26 on Anjunadeep.

You know there are thousands of grains of sand in the top of the hourglass; and they all pass slowly and evenly through the narrow neck in the middle. Nothing you or I could do would make more than one grain of sand pass through this narrow neck without impairing the hourglass. You and I and everyone else are like this hourglass...if we do not take (tasks) one at a time and let them pass...slowly and evenly, then we are bound to break our own... fragile structure.
