An artist finding notoriety under his Stories Of Others pseudonym, Joseph Dodd has quickly risen to prominence with a clutch of high-profile releases. 2018 and 2019 saw the "Edo Lake" and "4+6" EPs signed to Stripped Digital before Stories Of Others joined the Particles roster with a highly distinctive and memorable reworking of Color Ray's "First Light" in March 2020. Now making his full EP debut, "Dukun" is typically impressive opener as a fizzing percussive top line rolls immaculately across the near 7-minute piece. Trademark innovation is immediately in evidence as syncopated woodblock and rich melodies sit in perfect harmony while an evocative bassline adds weight. A smorgasbord of spine-tingling sound awaits at the breakdown before the title track hits its straps once more in the second half. Continuing the powerful sound design of its partner track, "The Clown" provides the listener with an immaculately programmed rhythmic foundation that revels in reverb-laden claves as a metronomic bassline sits perfectly underneath. Cleverly used toy box sounds pierce the sonic spectrum with imagination and ingenuity before a sumptuous layer of detuned and buzzing pads add texture in the latter stages.

A creative talent with a rich history of releases on the Proton Music and Particles catalogues, Erdi Irmak returns to the label for the first time since a 2019 remix of Hansgod, after 2014's "You're Either Guilty or Not Guilty" album shone a light on the Turkish artist's musical soul. About to reveal its sixth instalment, the "Hidden Arcadia" series on Proton Music has created a powerful vehicle for the Erdi Irmak sound while his remix of "Dukun" here, is a powerful reminder of artistic talent. Making intelligent use of the percussion found in the original, he creates a new foundation from which trademark organic synth phrasing and ethnic vocal phrasing flow elegantly. New motifs emerge at the mid-point in layers of immaculately harmonised soundscapes as rhythm and expert production technique create an imaginative remix to remember.

From the base of the Sierra Chicas, Julian Nates has been a rapidly rising star from his Cordoba home. An accomplished musician, proficient in both violin and piano, Nates has found himself featured on an impressive list of blue-chip labels that include Clubsonica Records, onedotsixtwo and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. April 2020's "Luminism" EP marked a notable Particles debut as two original tracks were joined by remixes from Imran Khan and Ejaz Ahamed. Now returning to the label for a debut remix, the Julian Nates interpretation is a driving progressive house number that generates dancefloor power courtesy of a heavy kick and off-beat house percussion. A running arpeggio adds to the subtle energy while the overall melodic vibe of "Dukun" is maintained is intelligent fashion. Subtle variations come to the fore at the mid-point breakdown as textured pads create a dense, swirling atmosphere that leads into a second half where rhythm and arpeggio combine to impressive effect.

Creating a rich new narrative of spirit and magic, "Dukun" finds Stories Of Others at the height of his powers, ably assisted by Erdi Irmak and Julian Nates.

After an incredible year from which Meanwhile continued to release a panoply of stellar music, GMJ & Matter’s imprint begins 2022 in scintillating fashion. Now, with a quarter century of releases under its belt, Matter returns to the label with his second original EP in the shape of the 3-track, “Banksia”.

After an incredible 2021, culminating with the November release of his debut “Starchild” album on Meanwhile Horizons, numerous collaborations with production partner in crime, GMJ, and over 1 million Spotify streams, the Melbourne based DJ and producer begins the year with a musical vignette of the highest quality.

Opening proceedings, the title track is a glorious piece of trademark progressive house from the Matter production studio. As mesmerising as it is powerful, an immaculately syncopated percussive and melodic groove combine in joyous harmony as a repeated motif waxes and wanes with filtered ease, backed by thumping beat and rumbling bassline. Huge white-noise swells herald new sonic phases as “Banksia” builds to a powerful crescendo post-breakdown in a spine-tingling second half.

Continuing the deep rolling groove of its predecessor, a seismic kick and head-shaking bass pattern form the foundations for “Burnout”. A trademark swathe of filtered synth motifs soon come to the fore amongst waves of gently pulsing white-noise risers, before an Underworld-esque breakdown of bassline prowess and hands-in-the-air synths explode into a third movement. Containing all the characteristics for a club-friendly stormer, “Burnout” is sure to fill festival floors over the antipodean summer.

The third track sees “Magic Rooms” complete the triptych with its shimmering arp and swung hi-hats. Working together in perfect synchronicity, a bassline sequence adds subtle urgency and low-end power before an evolving suite of synth elements combines in a magical symphony of sound that rises and falls in counterpoint glory. A characteristic bevy of reverb-soaked white-noise effects add to the sonic dynamism as the track opens up post-breakdown into a stunning arrangement of production know-how and sonic mastery.

A career that continues to blossom with each successive release, “Banksia” finds Matter coming into bloom once again with an iridescent pattern of musical verve.

Andrés Moris is a DJ / Producer from the province of Córdoba. He started his career at the age of 16 as a DJ, setting up his base and identity in electronic music. After several years of playing music, he shared the booth with greats from the local scene, such as Matthias Popoff, Ariel Zurita, Nicolas Gonzalez, Belu Amarfil, Cami Lipski, Sol Vietto, Berni Turletti, Matias Chilano, Jime Ferreyra, Sebastian Sellares, among others. Having the majority of Main dates, he wanted to delve further into the world of electronics and take his first steps as a self-taught producer. Today he has releases on labels such as, Balkan Connection, Or Two Strangers, Movement Recordings, 3rd Avenue and still there's more to come.

Inspired since he was little by music in general, his sound goes from a progressive with vibes of joy to a range of genres on the mixes, going through all of them and appreciating the music of each one. At 22 years old, he is already on the way to continue doing it all his life inspired by his national and international references. Taking Guy J as the main reference, inspiration never ceases to be present.

Kicking off 2021 by continuing to support up and coming talents in the modern underground dance arena, Meanwhile begins the year with a twin-track offering from gifted Ukrainian artist, Nōpi, and his sublime "Spoon Light" EP. One of the brightest stars in the underground house cosmos over the past eighteen months, Nōpi has continued to excel with a raft of original and remix material throughout 2020. An array of leading imprints has thus queued up to feature the Ukrainian's work with Cid Inc.'s Replug, the ever-reliable, Anjunadeep and Jacob Henry's Silk Music all releasing original music in the last months of the year; the latter with the mesmerising seven-track "Bila" EP that has seen Nōpi reach a fitting high point at year's end. Now debuting on Meanwhile, the title track is a scintillating tour de force that bristles with trademark emotion and glorious melodic brio. Driven purposefully forward with rich, sustained bassline and delicate percussive flair, shimmering pads and muted arpeggio pan the stereo spectrum with ease as ethereal vocal cuts whisper barely heard phrases, rich in reverb and delay. Building in intensity via a glorious breakdown, "Spoon Light" picks up the pace again in the third movement to create a rarely heard emotive intensity as dizzying gated synths add further aural colour. Partner track, "Creative Sheet" continues the intelligent melodic narrative of its predecessor as an intricate percussive top-line and immaculately syncopated bass groove provide a wonderfully worked rhythmic framework. Evolving seamlessly into the second movement, an expertly woven sonic tapestry reveals itself via panned effects, pulsating white-noise washes and potent synth phrasing. The result is a magnificent illustration of Nōpi's talent and ability to match groove and melody with poise and purpose.
