Solid mainstay Skudge has been pushing their unique mixture of house and techno for over half a decade now.

In a new direction of becoming a sole producer for now, Skudge 009 is the first mark of this new direction.

The intertwined beat structures of ’Waveless’ on the A-side takes us to charted Skudge territory. The small modulations and the pushing groove has become a trademark.

Flipping over to ’Motion’, a colder and haunting atmosphere binds this two tracker together, with a lot of focus and ambition for the future.

Field Records embarks on a new mini trilogy of EPs that will present a magical journey through modern-day trance. First up in the series is Artefakt with their three track effort The Final Theory. Dutch producers Robin Koek and Nick Lapien make up Artefakt, and between them they excel at moody voodoo music on labels like Delsin and Field. 

They open this latest EP with the title track, a deep, spacious house roller with subtle pads and gentle acid that perform slow motion acrobatics for nearly ten minutes. It is suspensory, dreamy music that works on the head as well as the heel. Moving Horizon is then less doleful and introspective but just as deep, with sweeping pads add a sense of scale, busy drums bring the dynamism and icy percussive sounds adding a sense of urgency. Last but not least, Solaris is a fatter, more physical groove with claps and gloopy bass, acid flashes and trancey pads all fleshing out a lush and deep electro workout. This is heavenly stuff that cannot fail to get inside your head and heart.

Dedication to details, attention to structure and a tireless pursuit of that specific and circular sound. The contextual element of ’Time Tracks’ seem to be placed in-between the most cordial music that Skudge has presented up until now, as well as bridging the singularity and adrenaline from the previous albums and EP’s.

We are invited into a palette of vivid mastery of details, brushes of percussion and narrowed basses that shatters deep. Pads and strings which acts as a foundation, evolves the music to a rigid composure.

A sonic narrative that seem to stem from motifs of the Earth, reflections of personal flair and moments remembered, dwelling on records collected. ’Ifach’ serves as an ode to the legendary UK imprint. Combining ’Time Tracks’ into a stark collection of studio sessions that features colleagues Daniel Andréasson (on Function) and Samo DJ (on Ifach).

One could argue that this is a territory proven to tick all the functional boxes, but Skudge manages to yet again display a highly personal take in a realm of conciseness.
