Radio historians rejoice! I finally located this great radio ID package. This custom began airing in 1982. WOWO in Ft. Wayne,Indiana was a dominant force in radio. AM 50,000 watts on the dial at 1190. If you listened back in the old days, you'll remember these classics from Jam Creative Productions in Dallas,TX Americas number one Company for radio ID's.

Between May & July 2011, Steve and I spent many a late night in The SoundStage Studios in Surfside Beach. Our goal was to begin choosing songs for "THE DRUMS OF ST. JOHN SOUNDTRACK. Of course, we knew there would be a fair number of classics hits, but also some remakes that Steve himself would  have to master. Many hours were spent listening to the original mixes from back in the day. My goal was to have a band recreate as close as possible the original tracks, and that included plate reverb and other elements. The was not an easy process. There were the uptempo songs that Steve would have no trouble with, but I had the idea of getting him to sing some tunes that he'd never done in his rock career. Namely ballads! One tune that was considered was Precious & Few by Climax. Wrestling trying to find the right mellotron sound had me pulling my hair out. Finally, we struck the right combination. I think this is pretty close to the original. The inspiration to do this one was a surprise for his wife Connie. Connie is one cool lady. We had fun doing this one for her. Recorded digital, all the shiny'ness was pulled back. I wanted analog. The process was not easy to achieve. '70's music is hard to emulate. You want airy, but processed at the same time. In short a tape sound. Balance was hard as well. The vocals are on four tracks. Backing on one. A fatter sound to match modern synths. Not bad I'd say.   Ray.

04 Moonlight Drive

Finding great plate reverb in software can have you pulling your hair out, cause most suck. You can have a great band,great singer, but all is a waste if you can't get a great product. Here is a Pro Tools piece. Pro tools sounds like....well...Pro Tools. Minimal compression on this one to get the airy feel of the original. The Bomb Factory Reverbworked great, and a decent sound. Not a great work, but acceptable in my book. 24 track, un-mastered.

How Much I Feel

Greetings, and welcome to my SoundCloud. As time allows, I'll add some recordings for you to check out. I've been in the biz since 1979. I've worked in both commercial recording and broadcast radio. A guy of old school, I learned analog. Digital is cool. I wouldn't say better, just less time consuming and a bit easier. My training is professional, not trial & error. You could say I'm one of those technical guys. I co-own a record label and studio in Myrtle Beach,SC. We also operate a live theater company and have ventured into motion picture productions. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with some great bands, and some super talented singers. Due to time, I only work on pet projects in the studio these days. When I'm not recording, you'll find me listening to great music of all genres on vintage stereo equipment! I collect as well. Yea, I'm an audiophile. You could say I'm in between a Bruce Botnick & Mutt Lange as an engineer. I am a perfectionist as a producer. I just don't record anything or just anybody. Great sound isn't cheap, and there is plenty cheap out there. I think the home studio market has unleashed some great talent. Guys that have the ear is a rarity. I learned a long time back that we recording engineers are a dime a dozen. You can't be a great engineer and a musician. Those are two separate arts. I also applaud those who do try to do something different in the way of digital workstations. Synths and all is great if the sound is authentic,but the art can only be mastered with a real band, not in a box. I think engineers these days spend more time experimenting rather than learning. Upgrading toys constantly is not always the answer. Great engineers can make anything sound great even on not so stellar equipment. I have to admit I enjoy producing. Shaping them is quite rewarding. One last thought, when you listen to my tracks plug your computer into a real stereo rather than built in speakers on a computer, and crank it up! Comments and questions are always welcome.
