Luigi Tozzi (live) - Upclose 2025

She is an artist who defies simple categorization by genre or scene. Mareena’s work as a DJ, producer, and curator stems from a deep desire to create meaningful connections between music and people. Her roots go back to a time when club culture was rougher, and perhaps more honest. Yet instead of clinging to nostalgia, Mareena continuously looks forward, digs deeper, and explores new sonic and emotional spaces. With a finely tuned sense for atmosphere, she creates a sound that unfolds gradually, reveals layers of complexity, and fully envelops the listener. Her musical signature is marked by warmth and attention to detail, shaped by an intuitive understanding of contrast and dramaturgy.

Whether in dark club nights or contemplative ambient formats, which she presents through her label UNRUSH, Mareena builds soundscapes that challenge and support in equal measure. She never puts herself at the center, but instead uses her music to establish genuine connection.

In an interview with Andre Kronert, Mareena takes us on a journey. From a small village near Rostock to the legendary catacombs of the old Tresor club in Berlin, where she has held a residency for over twelve years. She shares memories of attending the Love Parade with her family in the 1990s and recounts how techno eventually pulled her to Berlin, where she found diversity, freedom, and her musical home. Speaking openly and reflectively, with her characteristic northern charm, she talks about her early days, setbacks along the way, and why she continues to curate, perform, and stay loyal to vinyl with unwavering passion.

Me and Ben thought it would be fun to play a long DJ set together at Globus, the upstairs floor at Tresor in Berlin. 
We last played together (as Frequency 7) in May 2013. This time we played a ‘back to back’ DJ set, I’m pretty sure playing 2 tracks each for the whole six and a half hour set. All we had in mind beforehand was to start with some Dub and ‘see where it goes’. 

It was a lot of fun so we wanted to share the recording with you.

Here is a little something I did for legendary "Hip House" artist Fast Eddie. My Buddy Josh M. set this one up for me. 

This has been played on The public stand and also been used by both Sims and D. Clarke.
The approach I took with this is more of a Chicago tracky style. My house heads here in the city will appreciate it. Thanks.

Best known for his works on Kanzleramt, most notably for his releases "Spark" and "Thrill", as well as "Never Ending" on Cocoon Recordings, which became huge hits and have been listed in many DJ charts since. Further known by his remixes for Truncate, Joel Mull, Elbee Bad, Alexander Kowalski, Heiko Laux, Tom Hades, Housemeister, Victor Calderone, DJ T-1000, to name a few. Ray's music is characterized by a warm spheric and impulsive sound, that can be deep and trippy on the one side. Or simply banging and pushing forward.
