New Diamond Billups lays down the creamy sex vocals while Queens underground legend Legionnaire throws down the ugly raps. Beats dropped by Rayless on real gear, a mix of modern and classic. The MPC 1000 drives the booming beat with emulated massive 808s punctuated by trowser rattling bass courtesy of a vintage Juno 106. The mini brute is used for random weird bass hits that sound like they were forged in the engines of Red Dwarf. Multiple takes were done rocking out with the DD-20 digital delay. No animals were harmed during the recording of this song although some crazy kittens got the fuck down.

Dark Sun

This track is admittedly weird as hell. I ended up playing this amazing Swedish folk music record from the 70s on 45 RPM and the beginning of a Wu Tang sample record. Admittedly my Turn Table skills are more than a bit rusty. The main beat is being driven by an MPC 1000 which is sending a signal to an MSQ 100 hooked up to a Juno 160. The less than stellar vocals were performed by yours truly. I also played the Sci Six Trak later on in the piece. Turn Tables are Technic 1200s purchased in 1996 and still running like champs. The whole thing was recorded in logic 9 all live takes over multiple tracks with not a single moment of brick dragging.

This is a little thing I threw together in the spirit of Halloween.  I might come back and refine this into something more legitimate but nobody listens to my shit anyway so... who knows. As for tech.The baseline monosynth is the Pro-One. Samples are running off the MPC 1000.  The Six Trak comes in later as the arpeggiated melody. It's getting cycled via a footswitch pulse off the Pro-one. The MPC is the master clock. Sends a signal to the TR-09 who sends it to the 727. The TR-09 also sends a trigger to a TB-03 that is silent on this track, but sequencing the Pro-one. Badda-boom-badda-bing

I did a live take of me attempting to play Little Black Angel by Death in June on the acoustic. I kinda liked what I had even though the guitar work is pretty sloppy. So I went ahead and overdubbed two more live takes split for vox and guitar, that didn't make me a better guitarist, so then I added some violins for the hell of it. That also didn't make me a better guiarist but then end result is not too shabz.

This song is a cover of a Death in June song and is not an original composition. If you like it I suggest you go listen to the real thing, even better yet, go buy some mp3s.

Little Black Angel Di6 Cover

Twas told many a year ago that a creature most fowl was spotted on a misty evening pulling it's rotting mass out of Beach 33 on the Rockaway peninsula. Many dogs and cats were reported missing and a grizzly discovery of bones and fur was found by a Guatemalan heiress in the broom closet of her smartly decorated beachside home. Some locals say that on a foggy night, when the air is just right, you can still hear the lonesome wail of the beast from beach 33!

About this song:
What started as a test for recording acoustic guitars turned into a little post rock, surf guitar, gothish, fandango. My rhythm is all over the place which I apologize for but I'm so lazy I doubt I'll ever fix it. Maybe just re-record it who knows. Anyways enjoy!

It Came From beach 33

This is an ambient track I've been working on. I was shooting for a Brian Eno Music for films era kinda vibe, something cinematic. Very much a work in progress, I hope to get another take in on the guitar and do a little EQing.

The song is made up of three tracks in logic. The first is a single live take of the mini brute playing along with some chords on the Juno 106. To give it a little more of a human feel I did a rough take playing notes on a Martin acoutic guitar miked with a condensor. Last bit of touch was a recording of a storm I took with the same microphone.

The Reservoir

The current one man project of NYC based producer and DJ Jack Rayless. Jack Rayless got his start DJing small clubs and performing live shows under the monikers of SwampThing, Kemicon, and Jack Chillax. Highlights of his early career were playing along side legendary DJs like Sabo, James Fucking Friedman, Spank, Leisure Society, Computer Paul and NY institutions Sleepy and Boo.

When asked about his style Rayless simply replied "unlimited stance" and the term was born. His everything goes as long as it's funky would go on to inspire DJs as far away as BC Canada. To this day few DJs can match beats and have the balls to change vibe and bpm in a heartbeat. Rayless says that seeing David Mancuso rock day time loft parties was a big influence on his style.

With By a Rayless Night he hopes to bring back the sounds of classic industrial music from the early 90s. Bands like Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and Nitzer Ebb played a huge roll in forming as the inspirational foundation as a youth. In Rayless' words, when I was 13 if By a Rayless Night were around, they would have been one of my favorite bands.
