Alex and Brent were both raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. This song was written to highlight how awesome the Virginia state flag is - a half-naked woman standing on a fallen ruler, holding a sword and a spear, with the state motto, "Sic Semper Tyrannis", which translates to, "Thus Always to Tyrants"! The song seeks to act as a badass boast by Virtus, the woman on the flag, while at the same time addressing the hypocrisy of her state, and her nation, for claiming to stand for freedom, but then continuing to oppress people of color, indigenous peoples, women, and more, in ways which are still felt over 200 years later. It is upon each of us to always fight tyranny, whether from outside, or from within.

Brent Trueblood: 
Brent Trueblood hails from Hampton Roads, Virginia (home of Pharrell and Mark Ruffalo). He is a graduate of the Upright Citizens Brigade improv program, iO West, the Second City Hollywood Conservatory, and the Pack Theater sketch program. Actor. Improviser. Writer. Beer Snob.
